Afterlife - a UK TV Drama
Oct 23rd, 2005 at 1:35am

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to write about tonights episode in the 'Afterlife' series showing over here in the UK. Tonight was really good and I couldn't get on here for a few hours so i hope i don't forget much. Basically the show evolves around a medium woman called Alison. She has developed a strange professional relationship with a psychologist (call him Mark, forgot the name!) who is skeptical but wants to find out where she gets her stuff, basically analyze her, he is also writing a book on her. She can also see his dead son which he doesn't believe so we see the personal side between the two and the fights where she trys to get him to believe.

Tonight we started off seeing the event of a woman being killed. She was laying in bed and a man who got up went to and put a record on, the music playing strangly louder than would be expected. He sat down next to her and grabbed a pillow, they smiled at each other and then he proceeded to suffecate her... roll titles.

The next part of the story involves a woman who asks for Alisons help, call this woman Jane (forgot her name again lol!). Now Alison can't switch off her abilities, she wants to as shes fed up and hurts people unintentially sometimes with her gift and people get angrey towards her but seeing this woman in distress she has to help. Jane claims to have spirits in her apartment, Alison and Jane get on well and Alison stays over and a few experiences happen. She sees a few images, like movie clips in her head of what went on with the woman in the beginning and is terrified by this. Jane also claims to get touched, have a plate smashed and a few other goings on.

The next night they invite Mark round and Alison lives what happens to Jane. She can see everything going on as if she was the woman got murdered. We see the death unfolding again, she is pciking up on all the details, (she is sleeping in the bed the girl died in), she is almost OBE taking on the girl who dies roll. Mark is sitting in the room and notice her stirring, then she is being suffocated and Mark shakes her to snap her out it, Jane rushes in shocked to whats happening, all dramatic! Mark also (who is skeptical) saw when he walked over to the bed the woman who was being killed in the bed instead of Alison, he also saw the man walk in the room! Then he saw Alison again and this is where she started screaming and shaking because she was being suffocated, so he is starting to believe!

The story then involves that Jane turns out to be a newspaper reporter and made the spirits up! The house is new and owned by mother so no spirits could have been there. Jane then releases an article claiming Alison is a fake and how Mark is bad as well, she trys to interview Mark but as he walks away hes saying how hes trying to find out the truth, to see the bigger picture and its people in the media who only care about how many papers they sell and don't care who they hurt! Alison is also devestated (ruined again because of her gift) and more arguments happen between the pair.

The next thing that happens is when they have both given up we go back to the Janes apartment, she has moved out after having tricked the other two and the door opens and guess who walks in! The girl who got killed and the man who kills her, (they are a couple). Looks like Alison saw into the future and so wasn't a fake as claimed....we knew this anyway and then the credits roll! So everything is looking bad, alison and mark have fallen out, careers ruined and we find out what she saw was real, can't wait to next week now to find out what comes of this!

Id just thought i'd share because this is the first real programme on this that has been shown here in my lifetime as far as im aware and its touching to many areas, OBEs, mediumship, seeing into the future and personal lifes and many more. Plus it relates to so much than has been discuessed her recently I just really enjoyed tonights show!

Hope I explained it so it does make some sense haha lol.

Thanks Ryan,

I too hope/expect to see more shows that are reflecting our reality as discovered and experienced by modern day seerers like RM/BM and those on this board.  When you mentioned Jane claiming the spirit touched her, you jogged by memory about an incident that happened this past week at work.  So the client calls me to report symptoms and requests that I talk to the doctor about giving her medication to help with them. What really struck me about this Pentecostal person who experienced the death of her son and daughter (both in their 30’s), the first died of a stroke and the other was brutally murdered (leaving 3 children) was that she complained of having trouble falling asleep because when she laid down, she felt someone touching her face, head, or shoulder.  I bit my tongue and reassured her that I would staff with doctor but it really bothered me that I couldn’t openly discuss the possibility that her son or daughter might be trying to make contact or possibly reassure her. Lips Sealed Undecided  I too get overly impatient for us to get going in a more adventuresome way in these non-traditional areas.

I just discovered the Treasure Trove on the PE threads and read about your interests in music and, I think, it was Alysia’s concern that your tastes may not relate to hers because of the age gap.  I’ve felt so out of touch with modern music that I thought that there is no way I could connect with the younger generation but this week the most amazing thing happened for me.  I was having a discussion with the Medical Liaison that, for some reason, I’ve felt some sort of a connection with since he (early to mid twenties) started working at the same place as me and I mentioned The Point.  Now The Point was an animation about Obleo and his dog Arrow who were banished to the Pointless Forest but it has the superset songs.  The ML recently had his brother send him some of the songs and throughout the day we kept singing them when we saw each other.  But my main point (ha,ha) is that I loved this music so much that I requested my sons (now 30 & older) copy it for me for Christmas after we parted back in the early ‘80’s due to their fathers and my divorce so they did.  Last week I was able to lend the ML my tape done in ‘85 to him to copy and he was thrilled.  Funny the way different generations can connect in spite of the age and distance gaps.  I just knew/know that I recognize that guy from somewhere else in time and space  8).

Thanks again for sharing the story line, I had heard something about this series but due to my limited time and our cheap cable setup, I had never really expected to get a whole episode described and then, as a bonus, described by someone who shares a similar point of view.

Love and admiration and keep up the good work old soul, Jean Kiss

p.s. My son #1 recently bought a reissue of the songs from The Point  and gave a copy to son #2. This week I spoke with son #3 who is in the movie business who said that the animation has not been reissued yet and I told him to take care of it (ha,  Grinha).  So for some reason, at least in my world, The Point is making a point. J

Hey Jean!

Thank you for the wonderful reply, i really enjoyed reading that! It was a shame about not being to give her that idea for her to think about as I'm sure it would solve it once the son/daughter or both had made contact, maybe even lead her into a new journey. But then sometimes I wonder whether we can just go telling everyone for some people I think we will end up hurting more than we do good, everyone learns at their own time and i guess we can't force it, only guide sometimes Smiley! I think you made the right call and I know her son/daughter won't give up untill she relises so that day will come soon don't worry! Its still kind of taboo though isn't it? Specially when in a profession such as yourself?

I have never heard The Point so don't know what type of music they are and what they are about, must look into that Grin! See some people have particular tastes, how I don't know haha I love all sorts and espically music that expresses itself! I did love Alysia's music so much, which reminds i need to hear more! Must go find Alysia after this haha! What kind of music interests are you into? Do you listen to many new releases?

I am so glad they did this show, it is really in touch with the real issues but very enjoyable to watch also! Im glad you enjoyed the description, i'll let you know when they are repeating it if your interested next time! Just wondering where do you live? It was on ITV over here.

Glad your having fun with it though! I really wanna hear The Point now, going to do a search right now haha. Speak to you soon,

Ryan

Steve Volk the writer of Afterlife has said on a website forum he actually responds to (wow) that he hasn't been given the go ahead for series 2 as yet as  they're awaiting ratings results in the UK and he's working on another project.
http://www.ttapress.com/discus/messages/595/1604.html?1130763575 This thread is one out of about 4 on this website about Steve Volk and Afterlife and gives you an idea of his fan base after this series.  I'm certainly hanging out for the DVD release as I missed the first 2 shows, though I didn't miss out on the other 4! Channel 9 here decided to show the last 2 episodes one after another and the finale you will be wanting more Smiley
