Sounds like you got a hitchhiker. Some folks get awfully confused when their bodies fall off, and they're afraid that if they let go they'll become totally extinct. When they cling to past experiences they tend to go into BSTs. like the tank driver that Bruce described rescuing. Otherwise, some of them simply grab onto the nearest person and hitch a ride.

This is a pathological condition that requires treatment if it is going to be fully resolved. However, the pathology is not yours, it's the entity that needs therapy. The host is unaffected, with very rare exceptions.

Entities are generally very frightened and feel extremely vulnerable. As a result they may act like cornered animals and try to do anything they can in order to keep existing. To the degree that you fear their presence you are giving them power, your power, and they use this to isolate their existence and keep it alive. The way this works is that the entity attaches at the point inside your "self system" that it finds a common set of feelings or ideas. Obviously, fear is a commonly experienced sensation.  Especially when you are worried, and the entitiy is terrified.

The problem is that this leads to fear breeding additional fear, and so on, and it can get just as freaky as you are willing to let it. So, the solution is to first realize that This Is Only  A Spirit. Unless you give it power, it has none. 

Second, understand that this guy is probably confused and terrified. So, feel sympathy,  in life this was a lovable guy, at least to some people, and in death nothing has changed except that the body is no longer there to act as a reference point. This is Still A Lovable Person, no matter how badly upset.

Third, either you are a past life regression therapist (see the IBRT web site for referrals), or perhaps someone who has completed Bruce's Afterlife Training, will have to make the effort to get in touch with this guy. Explain that he has died, but that it wasn't fatal, just as it wasn't fatal on all those other occasions that it happened in the past. Therefor, There Is Nothing To Fear.  Instead, you have hosted his presence long enough to come to his assistance because you care about him, and wish to see him happy and healthy. Point out that just like everyone else, He Is A Being of Light, and also He Is Worthy Of Love. Then send him into the Light.

If he can't find the way, ask him to call out to some of his deceased friends to tell him where they are and to help him get there too. Point out that They Are Happy, and that  He Can Go There Too. Then ask them to reach out a hand, if necessary, to pull him into the Light.

Some entities are fearful that God will punish them. This is not true. God is Infinite Love, Infinite Compassion, Infinite Understanding. The reports of hell are always due to what we do to ourselves, and totally unnecessary. Besides, if he honestly repents of errors of judgement, God will work out a way that he can make up for them in his next life in a way that he will both enjoy, and that will benefit others. The Light is simply the experience of being one with God, and is a wonderful relief after all the hassles on this material planet.
