Psilocybe,
I don't think the afterlife works the way you describe. Everybody has bad memories. Does that mean nobody can get to heaven but must instead remain earthbound? If so, then we're all screwed. You may also want to consider that according to your fears about how the afterlife might work, people who really have serious problems with their consciousness while on earth, such as post-traumatic stress disorder, chronic depression, victims of childhood abuse, victims of rape and violence, etc., are going to be totally screwed when they die. They have much worse memories, and in some cases a whole lifetime full of them. People like that are a very significant percentage of the population. Do they all enter a hellish or earthbound state after death? I doubt it. I don't see why the universe would operate in such a cruel and unfair way. It is more logical to believe that people go to a place in the afterlife according to their moral character, rather than things that happened in their life which they could not control.
