The state of mind many of these "ghosts" are in is almost identical to that of ordinary dreaming.  So, the question you ask is the same as asking, How can a you possibly be dreaming and not know you are dreaming?

To the "ghost" the elements of their "dream" ( the scenes, characters and activities) are created by their own beliefs and expectations.  And they react to their dream surroundings as if they are "real."  Far too many "ghosts" will be trapped in these dreams of their own creation until some is able to enter their dream and show them the way out.  That's what the Art of Retrieval is all about.

ahh, my favorite subject of all! I was lucky? enough to get this question answered personally, and just expressing here so I can learn how to put words around it as I used to think it so unfair to be floating about not knowing where u are but knowing you are alive and there but perhaps not accounted for in your own mind. was in a motel in reality with me body. woke up the next morning thinking, wow! I didn't really die, so's I get another chance at this! whoopee! nothing like getting back to the body and actually appreciating the home it provides temporarily. I was a retriever and didn't understand how these folk could possibly not grasp their condition. so I became one of them in a sense, although it was only a belief system crash taking a form and dying, then getting retrieved by the love of my daughter. I didn't know where the heck I was (the experience) I had no memories of where I belonged and who my people were. the thought that came was "I have to find a group to join, I like to yak about things, maybe we can save the world, whatever. the feeling I coasted forward on was a sense of curiosity and adventure which displaced anxiety for the most part. I found some groups to join in with but they couldn't see me or hear me. so I raised my voice and put more emphasis into my tone. I managed to get one guy's attention who knew a "ghost" was there, not only was a ghost there, this one was talking! ha ha! the subject they were discussing changed to the ghost in the room. at that point I felt very uncomfortable to realize something was wrong. I gravitated in an unconscious way to my family; my daughter was doing dishes as I floated above her head. to me floating above people's head is natural, so I didn't think I was dead yet, maybe just out of body. I asked her why people couldn't see me and were treating me weird. she told me I was dead. at that moment I was shockingly awakened but knew exactly what I must do in that case. the feeling that came over me was exactly what the feeling was during the movie when Thelma and Louise went off the cliff! whoaaa!!!! took all the courage that was in my soul to do it. just raised my arms and reached for whatever was there, not knowing if it would accept me or not but knowing if I was dead then I couldn't stay on this physical plane imposing myself into other's business as a ghost. ok, I'm the nosy type, whatever.it was fun all in all!

RyabParis,

It would be nice if you can take those pictures off this site and show some respect to others.

What on earth is wrong with it? Does it have racist slogans , no does it encourage violence no, part of the ethic of this board as far as im aware is to express your self and be TOLERANT of others beliefs.  I personally couldnt care what avatars a person has as I concentrate mainly on the text which i read from others.

There was a movie called "The Others" , that showed an interesting perspective on ghosts who didn't know they were dead.  The "Sixth Sense" sorta took the same angle with a different elements.  The Others was more interesting from a haunted house perspective, and Sixth Sense more interesting from the stuck personality perspective (in my opinion).

Who exactly is RP disrespecting?  I don't get it.

the other day I watched "Medium" on TV, and this program is not built around sensationalism like Hollywood can be. the medium actually did a retrieval on a girl who had been slain by boyfriend, and was still attempting to pick up her items from his apartment, but she was in stark terror of the killer. she had blocked the unacceptable memory of her last moments being physical. I like the way the medium gently led the girl back to the death scene, then she knew what happened. great show and pretty much right on how it's done.

RP is probably just having fun with the internet. if u ask me, we are just a bunch of humans on this planet, and not one of us stays on topic very well. if enough people object to a post; you PM Bruce or moderator and into the off topic section it goes.
