Ghosts, Burglers, Clowns, and Friends

Here is a strange dream that I had last night.

Ralph Buskey
Dream Journal entry 1
November 24, 2009

I came in late at night to my mother’s house but no one was home. I went to sleep in the living room. Just as I started to fall asleep, I heard a heavy breathing down the pitch black hallway. I knew since I was the only one there, that it was a ghost doing it. Instead of being frightened, I yelled out to the ghost to show itself to me. After a period of silence, I tried to go back to sleep. I was then awakened by a light coming on in the kitchen; then a female figure quickly past by with the light going back out after she past by. I yelled out to her to stop playing games and show herself, but again nothing. The next attempt at sleeping I held a flashlight and a heavy object in case it was a burglar. I heard someone coming in the side door so I hid under the blanket so I could surprise the burglar. When the burglar came into the living room where I was trying unsuccessfully to sleep, I shined the flashlight on the burglar and to my amazement the burglar was a woman wearing clown makeup. She said don’t be alarmed because she was a friend of my brother who lives there at my mother’s house. After talking to her awhile, two more women come in and we were all talking. One of the women snuggles up by me and seems to want to kiss me. I told her that I would love to, but I’m married. Finally it was daybreak and my mother, step dad and brother show up at there house and then happy ending to the dream.

Hello, Ralph.

In the book "Otherwhere", Kurt Leland suggests that sometimes we get lessons in how to recognise that we are dreaming, so that we learn how to get lucid. In these kinds of dreams or testing scenarios the dream gives us hints that we dream. Also we are made aware that our thinking directs the content of the dream.

First you have a ghostly experience. This would make people question the reality, but with good old dream logic you conclude at some point it is a burglar. Also, the conclusion that it is a ghost was you.

So, now you have the tools to surprise the burglar, and tada! There is a "burglar". The burglar is weird, and gives you a weird explanation. Dream logic again - instead of recognising the weirdness you accept the explanation, even though in a total context it does not really make sense.

After you get more immersed in the dream, more people show up. I think the possible scenario fades here.

I think the clown costume might have been to emphasize the absurdity the claim she makes. Like her outfit says "Isn't what I say truly hilarious if you think about it?"

After you concluded it was a ghost, a female figure appeared to you, flashing by. After you concluded it is a burglar, you catch a burglar, after you accept the idea it is a friend, more friendly people show up. It seems like every time your expectations drive the further story of the dream.

On the other hand, never do you question the fact that you go asleep while a ghost or a burglar might be around.

Just some thoughts. Smiley

Be well

Greetings O.

I think your right about lessons in becoming lucid in a dream. It's always been a goal of mine but I accomplished it only a few times in my life. I'm getting closer now to being able to go out of body while meditating. The other day I was able to levitate in my dream.

I always get so wrapped up in the dream that lucidity becomes a problem. When awake I embrace my reality around me and carry this drive into my dreams as well. What I need to do is keep a mindset that I'll gain lucidity just as I start falling asleep.

Wild dream Ralph...Hey, that's the name of my Guide, did you know? it's short for Raphael, I think. Anyway I wish you luck with it all buddy. The 3 Disc Gateway Series has helped me a lot as well as Bruce's disc 6. I would love to meet you some day. If you ever find yourself in F27 please stop by my pub and let me pour you a pint. I haven't met any married people in F27 as yet just Merried ones, oh so Merry.

Greetings Beau,

I am anxious to gain the ability to reach F27. As soon as I can break away my consciousness from C1 then I'll look you up.
