Well, it looks like the new version made some slight changes with regard to how it handles new message notifications.  It is now an option to receive it via e-mail or not and it appears that "No" is the default.

You will need to enable the e-mail notifications in your profile.  Here are the steps:

Click the "User CP" tab in the top menu.
Click the "Profile" tab.
Click "Options"
Enter your password.
Then, on the right, scroll down until you see "Post and Board Notifications".  There is drop-down select field to choose "Yes" after "Notify me of new Notifications by eMail?".

Let me know if that gets it working again for you.
