Hello everyone.  This is my first post here.  I hope to be able to contribute to this community.  I am not usually a book-poster, but I wanted to get this out right away.  I promise to try not be so long winded in the future.

Also, I apologize if this is the wrong place for this kind of post.

My first reason for registering was to convey a message: I have been reading your books Mr. Moen and I have to say they have really hit me just right.  I've read a good many books on the subject of consciousness exploration (including Monroe's books) with much love for them and what they taught me over the last 5 years or so.  But none spoke to me more personally and clearly than your books.  I bought Voyages into the Unknown on a whim.  After I read that, I hurried up and bought the rest of the series.  So I wanted to thank you for writing your books.

I can remember teaching myself to fall asleep willfully and to have what I thought of as controlled 'waking dreams' when I was younger; not realizing that I was learning to have altered states of consciousness on my own.  After trying to talk to my mother about it I learned that no one else did these things, so I stayed quiet about it and it eventually stopped, though I could still put myself to sleep with ease no matter what state of mind I was in.

Then, one day some years back a friend handed me a printed copy of the on-line Treatise on Astral Projection.  Intrigued, I started gobbling up all the media I could on the subject.  I found my way to TMI and its products and set out on the at-home Gateway voyage CDs.  Having read all this stuff and more or less forgotten my childhood waking-dreams, I realize now that I had certain set expectations (despite all the advice against just such a thing.) I became very aggravated with my progress in my explorations.

Then I read your book.  I found in its pages parallels to my own experiences.  Old doors opened, filling me with wonder.  I set aside my expectations, followed earlier paths of intuition and found myself developing my own previously atrophied ability to have waking dreams again, which I now know are experiences of altered states of consciousness.  You helped re-awaken my missing childhood wonder and your second book, Journey Beyond Doubt taught me acceptance of what I already had within me and what I already knew worked for me.

So again, thank you.  And thanks to all the people who helped bring your books to us.

Hi there, and welcome.

I'm sure it would have been perfectly fine to put this on the main forum.  Your story sounds similar to mine, and to a lot of folks here I'm sure.  You stated it so eloquently I wish I had written that myself.
I'm sure your input here on this site will be valuable to the rest of us.  I for one feel very invigorated when reading posts like this--it gives me that burst of excitement at working to overcome my own blockages which for some reason or another I still struggle with.

There's much to learn, and continue re-learning, from sharing in other's experiences.  And I think Bruce's personality and natural charisma work magic in his books and his teaching.  It's what makes people so drawn to him when they read his books.

Welcome, Sulla--  Hi to you, too  Vicky!

How wonderful that you have joined us.  We all look forward to your input. It it through you that we learn.  I have also read books by and about Robert A Monroe and have also read Bruce's books. I was so exhillerated by Monroe's books that I starved to read more. It was a delight to read Bruce's books, and from someone who is currently alive. I throughly enjoyed all 5 of Bruce's books, and found his "Imagine" theme to ge of great value. I have been "day dreaming" or lucid dreaming all my life, and wondered if perhaps there was something wrong with me---- an overly active imagination at the very least. But, Bruce's books made me realize that this was paralleling.  With Bruce's 5th book, I was able to complete a successful rertrieval and got confirmation within 2 hours of the retrieval. How wonderful---- that was one of my "WOW" moments.

I look forward to your threads on this blog.  Carol Ann

Hello Sulla:

I've found that one can obtain messages from one's high self/spirit guidance through waking dreams and such. Have you had this experience? Have you ever asked a question, and received an answer (perhaps in symbolic form) through either a visual image or waking dream?

Regarding being exhilarated, Robert Monroe's Ultimate Journey was exciting to me. When he spoke of his I-there, it was the first time I had heard of such a thing.

It's great to see there are people coming in here on a regular basis. I've been reading Bruce's books and I'm in the middle of the third one now. It's just so fascinating to feel like someone may have something of a handle on this topic. I've read a lot of different books on this subject, as I'm sure most of you have, but it's great to have found a place where I can read about so much activity in this realm. I'm 47 and I feel like I've missed a lot but I am very anxious to catch up. I ordered the Knowledge CDs as a christmas present for myself today. And the cost of Bruce's workshops are very reasonable. I hope I can attend one someday.
I got a fire lit under my behind because a few days ago I was going thru the motions with my "meditational activities" and I actually saw something without my eyes, a scene before me that was more than just imagination at work. I've tried to recreate the vision or whatever but I think I'm just too anxious or something. I'll keep trying. It was one of the very coolest things I've ever experienced.

Cheers,
Beau

Hi Carol Ann!

Hi Recoverer--what you said about asking the higher self a question and receiving the answer, I'm trying to work with this more and more lately (now that my book writing is done and I've got all this free time now.  I'm working on a lot of things actually, especially trying to explore more nonphysically).  I'm not receiving so much in visual form, but in thought and knowing.  I'm happy, though, with any kind of communication from above!

Beau,

Have you posted your experience somewhere here on the Conversation Board?  I'd love to hear about.  Do you mind sharing it?

Hi Vicky,
I don't mind sharing it at all. I'm such a newbie here I'm not really sure where to put that sort of thing. I've had several near hits with OBEs in the past but even with that I never actually saw something as if I was looking thru my physical eyes like I did the other day. After waiting patiently for about 45 minutes, even with the distractions of my dog and my girlfriend moving thru the room, I suddenly noticed that the hypnogogic stuff had subsided and I was seeing a rather darkened stage, perhaps an ampitheatre. It was empty, but I felt like a large group was going to gather there later on. To me it's not so much what I saw but that I saw something so tangibly without opening my eyes. It lasted for about 20 seconds maybe a little longer. It happened about the time I had given up but before I had opened my eyes obviously. It has really motivated me to keep working on it. Plus Bruce's books make me want to keep pushing too. But it seems the best results so far have been when I wasn't really trying...but I had been trying so I guess it's all good. Nice chatting with you.

Yours,
Beau

Hi Beau,

I've noticed that too, that things seem to happen more when I'm not really trying.  What works well is to recognize that "sparked" feeling of motivation at some point in your day, and while you notice it then think about something you want to try to do or explore, like OBE or vision, retrieval, or whatever.  If you can stop what you're doing and try then, that's great.  But if not, you can do it later.  I tend to do this telling myself, "I really want to have an experience with that, so the next time I'm ready to do it I'll just do it."  Then I just let it go and don't think about it.  Then, the next time you do have time to sit and concentrate on whatever, you should find it easier to have the experience you want since you've already set the intent to have it.

I too have had those fleeting very-real images and have wondered what they are, but knew they were real of something.  What I need to work on is being able to focus my attention longer in the moment and to gather more information or something verifiable.  I tend to still get too excited and easily lose my focus of attention.
