Review of Jane Roberts / Robert F. Butts: A Seth Book  The "Unknown" Reality  Volume One

This book is a compilation of common ideas which were around in the 1970s. Nothing in it is new, original or of further interest. The presented ideas and concepts are just stated, but not discussed in depth. Simple, basic questions which are naturally arising are not answered. Everything is unspecific and unprecise, so no practical use can be gained from the presented concepts.

The basic concepts are:
(A) Everything consists of units of consciousness.
(B) There are many alternate/probable realities, for example many alternate biographies of a person; these alternate realities could be perceived when one opens up for this expanded view on reality (realities).
(C) Time is not linear as commonly perceived, it's direction is better described as going from the future to the past, than from the past to the future, or everything exists simultaneous.

These concepts are repeated endlessly slightly variated, with some snippets of popular contemporary science, sociology, philosophy and the usual esoteric speculations, all very superficious.

It is a book from a very talkative person who has nothing interesting to say. Very unintelligent.

Spooky Spirit

pray tell, what book has new information? It's all old.

Unknown Reality was less interesting to me than others. The first ones were my introduction to some new ideas That's always exciting.

Sometimes what is interesting in a book is how I react to certain details... not predictable.

I always wondered what R Monroe really thought of his visit to JR and Robert and Seth...

Hi Lucy,
Monroe visited Roberts and Butts? Didn't know that.
Yes, it's true, the very most of literature is not new. But what unnerved me in this case was the sheer amount of stuff compared with what it's really saying, and that obviously Roberts and Butts were so fascinated of the idea that Roberts was channeling an entity and gets so much "material" that they just didn't realize that, at least in this form, it is intellectually on a low level; that would be totally allright if it had been at least entertaining, humorous, lively or so, but nahh...

One of the feelings I got while reading Jane Roberts Seth is that the dialogues go on and on in a manner that is hardly reflective of a high level being.  When I communicate with spirit guidance it takes no time at all for my guidance to create an indepth experience that symbolically provides me with an answer to my question.  This being the case, why did Seth have such a limited ability to communicate?

I have two friends who "don't" take part on this forum, and they also noticed that Jane Roberts Seth dialogues go on and on without saying much.

One thing I noticed is that there is a lack of original concepts. Create your own reality, non-linear time, parallel universes, simultaneous incarnations, viewpoints that have been around before Jane Roberts Seth came along.

Should I just keep quiet? I think Jane should've kept quiet when she spoke nonsense about Jesus. When she did so she provided an open invitation to anybody who gives a damn.

My guess is that there isn't a Seth soul. Just Jane Robert's and Robert Butt's imagination. Sometimes their imagination and what they read in various places worked well, sometimes it didn't.

Do not base your decision to read a Seth book strictly on this review.  Having read three Seth books now and going on my fourth, I have a lot to say about Seth and his books.  Believe me when I tell you that these books will most likely open your eyes to see the world in a new way, a more beautiful and wonderous way.  Before reading the Seth books, I had been going out of my body and lucid dreaming for about 6 years, the bulk of my nonphysical experiences occurring in the last two.  By that time I had a totally new and amazing belief structure based on my metaphysical readings (Bob Monroe, Robert Bruce, Bruce Moen, ect...) and my many experiences in nonphysical dimensions.  I thought I knew it all, I thought I had all the answers.

Upon reading the Seth material, I knew that my present knowledge of reality was just the tip of the iceberg.  The Seth material reaches underneath the tip and delves into areas uncharted and unknown.  Just think about the concept... reading a book coming almost directly from a nonphysical entity-and therefore possessing great knowledge of nonphysicality.  Just this idea alone would make one curious enough to give it a try.  Many of the concepts presented by Seth are backed by popular explorers, metaphysicists, and even modern physicists today.  Other ideas explored by Seth go beyond the reaches of most human minds, and will sometimes leave me with a feeling of awe, and leave me thinking... "WOW."  Some of the concepts are so extraordinary I will have to put the book down for a minute to absorb and mentally sort out what I just read.

Not everyone is a fan of Seth for one reason or another.  Many explorers are.  You be the judge.  Don't let someone else make the decision for you.  Discovering Seth has opened a door allowing new knowledge to come into my consciousness in more ways than one and has enriched my daily experience.  It can do the same for you too.

Yes, my review shouldn't hinder anyone from checking it out for oneself. Certainly, it does contain a lot of concepts one can wonder and think about. Alone, to me personally they weren't new nor practically helpful, but for another one it might be just the right stuff.

Hey Spooky,

I got into the Seth materials about 15 years ago, if not longer. When I first read it, even though I read it thoroughly, I got some of the concepts but hardly would say all.

Over the years I've found it necessary to reread Seth, which I am now doing with great attention. This rereading is necessary since my first reading because I've managed to read Michael Newton, Scott Rogo, Bruce Moen, Robert Monroe, Edgar Cayce, Robert Bruce, and a few others. Seth filled in the missing parts and bridged discoveries and observations between authors.

Now, after finishing Bruce Moen's four Voyages, and now working on his GuideBook, I'm tackling Tom Campbell's "My Big Toe." Guess what? Tom Campbell claims that he and a colleague who volunteered their time at the gestation of the Monroe Institute were the two who actually started research in audio frequency testing. It was these two who experimented with the two audio inputs, the early stages of Hemi-Sync. Voila! A truth revealed. I don't think I've read anywhere that Robert Monroe discovered Hemi-Sync, but that the institute discovered the research into this area. In Monroe's earliest book, Monroe never mentioned that it was he who used Hemi-Sync to get into an altered state, but that it happened to him one afternoon (or night) when he sort of fell through his sofa; he never used Hemi-Sync to get into that altered state. In a similar fashion, even Tom Campbell admits that he told a white lie when he gave the impression to readers that his altered consciousness experiences started when he volunteered research at the institute. In his first volume he discloses that at an early age he experienced an altered consciousness experience with "guides" who were literally assessing whether or not they should continue to use him as a student.

In a similar way I'm discovering that Bruce Moen did not learn altered consciousness through Gateway, but already had experiences prior, which were then solidified at Gateway. Bruce Moen's approach, that of using imagination and visualization, had been used and developed by others. Scott Rogo's work on how to go out of body summarizes the various techniques, one of which was visualization and imagination. Rogo referred to Charles Tart as being instrumental in applying visualization to aid in the development of altered consciousness, just as Bruce Moen referred to Charles Tart in similar fashion.

Just my thoughts and observations.

Yes Ronny, it's an interesting question how big the role of some methods like HemiSync really is regarding to expand one's awareness. I personally benefitted much from Gateway Voyage, but I don't have results like Monroe or Moen have. I'd say the general state of mind and beliefs, and to some unknown degree a natural gift, is crucial to widen the own perception, but certain methods can be the little trigger which makes it really come to life, and/or consciously usable and controllable.
