Hallo BEremita!
Can't give you any first-hand advice, I'm afraid, as living here in the UK, and with financial, work and personal committments over the years, I've never managed to get to TMI, so you are very lucky. I can say that Robert Monroe, his books, his Institute and all its offshoots and ramifications (which of course includes Bruce Moen's work and this site) have had a more profound effect on my thinking than anything else I've encountered, something no doubt true for countless others worldwide.
I first came across his work in the late 70s, when I was looking for relaxation tapes, and bought some of his from a local retailer; they were then branded as "Mentronics". After further research, I joined TMI as a sustaining member, (until just a few years ago) getting newsletters and free member tapes. So, there are a large number of all manner of hemi-sync tapes here, and like you, for a long time I never had the opportunity to do them all justice (and for many years, not listen to any at all)!
I can recommend a new biography of Monroe, by Ronald Russell ("The Journey of Robert Monroe", Hampton Roads, 2007), which brings his story and that of TMI, right up to date, so may be worth a read for you. The author (also living in UK) has told me that a purpose-built Hemi-Sync centre is opening for "business" here in the UK (near Glastonbury, Somerset) this autumn, with an inaugural Gateway Voyage, so maybe at last I will get to attend, either then, or later!
Hope you enjoy the experience!
