dream about grandpa
Aug 8th, 2007 at 4:12pm

My grandfather passed away almost 3 weeks ago, and so far I've had a few dreams about him. My grandfather was very ill and his death wasn't sudden, the last 5 weeks of his life was spent in a hospital and nursing home under hospice care. My first dream, about 2 weeks ago, took place about a mile down the road from where his hospice care was. My family and I, as well as my grandma (who is still alive) and grandpa were by the sidewalk along the street. It seemed like we were having a picnic, but I'm not sure it was planned to be that way. My grandpa and grandma were sitting on big coolers, and I looked at my grandpa and gave him such a long hug and squeeze, but when I pulled away he rubbed his arm and said his arm hurt. In the nursing home, his body was filling up with fluid, including his arm, but in the dream I think it might have been his other arm hurting.

Another dream I had was just this morning, where i knew my grandpa was dead. I woke up early this morning, and went back to sleep for at least an hour and ahalf where this occured. There was other immediate family, but I specifically remember my mom, my grandma and me sitting in my family's basement on the couch. The lights start turning on and off, and I was so exciting I thought it was my grandpa sending us a sign. It turned out this little boy ran down the stairs and all over the basement, he was really friendly and we were talking to him, but I was a little upset it wasnt my grandpa. I learned about the boys history a little bit, he said he died in a war (I think the present one in Iraq) and he was a little boy in the dream but was at least middle age when he died. We somehow got to his body, which I'm not sure his family could find, and returned it and somehow let people know how he really died.
Still the same dream... Then we arrive some place else and I had such a feeling my grandpa was here, and I was frantically trying to find him. I separated from the rest of my family, they went to search for him one way and I went the other. It was a lot of older people, and I mistaked a few people for my grandpa, from far away it looked so much like him and when I went up to them they just looked affronted and turned away. It was a very busy place but then my family and I met up again, and some little girl who was in my family in the dream but I didnt recognize when I woke up said she found grandpa, and I was so angry and upset that I didnt get to see him. So we rushed off again and finally found him having a dinner with a lady. When I first saw him i felt such happiness and relief. At first I thought the lady with him to be my grandma, but she turned into someone else I didnt recognize. In this dream I knew my grandpa was dead and I started crying hysterically and I gave him a hug, as well as a kiss on the lips which I never did, it was always a kiss on the cheek. And he smiled and said I love you to each me, my brother and my mom, and he looked at us one at a time while doing so, and had such a smile on his face. The waitress came by, and being that I'm so curioious in spirits and the afterlife, I asked her if they knew they were dead and I dont really remember what she said, but she winked at me. At times I was unsure if my grandpa knew he was dead because during the dinner it seemed like he was referring to the lady as my grandma. Then sometime after that, I can't really remember much else and then I woke up.

After his death, it was so hard for me to think of the man he use to be before he got terribly sick up to his death. But seeing this dream and his smile just brought some sort of memory to him back, and I had such a good feeling after I woke up and now I can clearly see his smiling face; and I havnt been able to see a smile on his face in so long.

I also think I might have felt him in the room before. A few times I have felt cold sensations enclose my hand. Like last night, I was sitting here at my computer and I felt a small, and not uncomfortable burning on the upper arm and coolness right behind me, and then about 20 minutes later i felt a coolness enclose my hand and behind me. I've felt the same coolness 2 other times, one in their apartment when i told him we were going to take care of my grandma for him, and another in my family room of my house...when i felt it my dog even wagged her tail once and then was looking all around my grandma like she sensed something.

Congratulations loveMEB,

you have experienced many classic aspects of being visited by someone (your grandpa) in spirit !!  Even your dog knows the signs!
Then while in your heightened state of sensitivity and loving toward your grandfather, you also participated in a retrieval of a soul (the military fellow/boy) who needed to get on with his spiritual progress. These retrievals are the basis of what our host Bruce Moen teaches--had you read about retrievals before having that dream?

Others have reported on that afterlife switch of left to right or vice-versa that you noticed with your grandpa's sore arm, so that is 'classic' too. That's just one sign; you have included many others--the cool energy field, his touch, etc! I'm sure you'll receive more responses to your post, and the index to previous subjects can point out information that will help you also.

You can mentally speak to your grandpa when he visits and find out more about where he is and who he sees there, but your loving attitude is the best thing you can do for him. Eventually he will probably not come around as much and should move on.

Now that you've discovered that 'death' is not a distant state of being, perhaps you'll get more involved in helping retrieve other souls or helping others with their unnecessary fear of death. These are amazing times that we live in!

PUL, Bets

Thanks for the comment!

It really comforts me that he's been visiting, even though it wasnt a sudden death, it still isn't easy. It just amazes me how all of this is happening, he is the first real important person in my life that has died, and I'm not lying when I say I'm so interested and excited that he's visiting. I've always been interested in wondering if there is an afterlife and about spirits, but since everything that has happened including his actual death, has given me no doubts that its out there. I've told everything that I've experienced to my mom who seems really open with everything going on as well, but she hasn't had a dream or any signs from my grandpa that I know of. Is there a reason why I'm the only person dreaming about him or "feeling" him, while she hasnt? It's made me doubt some of the signs, that it could be all in my head...which is what my dad has said a few times. But I like to believe it's really my grandpa, even if I sound stupid to everyone else.

I never knew of something called a retrieval, so even not knowing about it, I could participate? Its really satisfying to know that I helped someone, even if it wasn't intentional. I've never read of anything about this before my dream, but I would love to know how to help with other spirits. Do you have any idea how that happened when I wasn't giving intentional help?

Greetings loveMEB,

Unfortunately we often lose this ability to see 'the other side' as we get older and our heads get filled with the facts and skills we need for physical reality. Your father's responsibilities keep him more grounded in practical matters.
Our host here has written some books about how to reverse those effects and regain the very natural ability to get in touch with souls that have passed over. Men in particular, we hear, like Bruce Moen's unsentimental approach to the 'dearly departed' ones.

People who have natural affinities for this are not fearful of spirits and care about those 'on the other side.'  Those people (such as you are) bring a soothing vibe to any lost souls, like your military casuality, that calms such a confused soul enough so that Consciousness Helpers (probably the same as previously called angels) can get his attention and take him to heaven/ the afterlife. You can read about other retrievals in the Retrieval Forum on this website, keeping in mind that the Helpers will appear in any disguise necessary to put the lost soul at ease. Your love for your grandfather has opened you to all this.

Grandparents/grandchildren frequently don't have the responsibilities that weigh on parents and so can more easily show the family love that underlies many family relationships but which sometimes gets over-looked in the hustle-bustle. You are fortunate.

Bets

Lol that would exactly explain my dad, he's a very practical guy. I like to keep things a little open minded and not completely say that something isn't real. I've been reading Bruce's stuff over the site, I think I'm going to look into some of his books, it all seems so interesting. But by being able to get intouch with my grandpa, you don't think that would bother him would you? I feel so selfish that I want to keep him close by to me and always here, it's just hard for me to let go of him, but I want him to be able to go off and do all he wants and is suppose to do; I just dont want to bother him a lot, I'm not sure how all that really works in the afterlife.

I think it's pretty interesting, I've always had such an imagination when I was a kid and even now I still do. My mom told me that when I was maybe 3 1/2 years old or so, that 'I saw Poppy (my other grandfather who died 11 months before I was born) while I was in her tummy.' She told me that I said it so carefree, it must have made a been impact on her to remember it for so long, but my dad says it would be strange for a little child to say that, I must have gotten some idea in my head when I heard my family talking about him. But as I like to say, since I'm the only grandchild of his that he couldnt meet, that I got to share that with my poppy Wink

Greetings LoveME8*,

You said: "you don't think that would bother him would you?"
You are right to pick up on that thought, as yes, a time will come when he has other things he has to do.
Where he is, a sense of loving is the most important factor for what he's doing now and has done in the physical. You could plan on limiting your questions for him each time and generally make them about his loving feelings for his family.
But here's an idea that might help your father too (Is it his father who died, or your mother's?) If you are in communication with your grandfather again, you could ask him to tell you some little thing that only your father and he know/share.  Let your grandfather know its purpose is to convince your dad of spiritual reality. Then prepare your dad to be surprised by what your grandpa told you.  Smiley  People who can accept and grow in afterlife beliefs and experiences are going to have a much easier lifetime as much is happening that will not be such a shock to them--us--you included Wink.

*(Apologies for misreading your name previously.)

Best wishes, Bets

Its ok for the name mix-up! no biggie.

I'm going to try and stop thinking about it a little less, ever since he died I just can't stop thinking about him and where he is now. It seriously on my mind all the time, but once I get back to college, surrounded by work and my friends, I think I'll be able to take my mind off of it more.

I woke up this morning again and then went back to sleep and had another dream, the thing is, I think I was like half awake because I remember rolling around and looking at the clock. But in this dream I could go between being alive and being a ghost just by pushing a button somewhere on me. And I was making lights flicker, I got in a huge fight with my mom, but the main thing I remember was making lights flicker. Then a lot of little children came over, some were cousins I havn't seen in so long and others were kids from the neighborhood, but they could all see me when I was in ghost mode. And then my grandfather appeared again, it looked like how I first saw him in the dream where I was searching forh im. I asked how he was and said good. But he seemed disoriented again by just talking to other people, then he noticed me again and I tried hiding from him, it seemed like he was angry or something and said something that I can't remember and then dissapeared. I dont know if it was a dream or if it was him, but it didn't seem like his usual self, more like the person he was when in the nursing home a week or so before he died. Anyway in the same dream, I noticed a little boy was wheezing really funny and I asked if he was ok and I layed him down in my dining room. I remember from reading somewhere how spirits can look through your body to see any illness, it must have been on my mind, cause I went back to being a spirit and I saw inside his body and found out something was wrong with one of his organs. And someone else was there I can't remember who but I kept saying please help him its his liver I swear, if you dont help him he's going to die. And then I think I woke up. It was a weird dream but I thought I would post it, I have a huge imagination so it could have been just a dream and nothing else, but sometimes I look for it to be more.

My dad's dad died almost 20 years ago, and it was my mom's dad who died 3 weeks ago. If my grandpa comes back I'll try and ask him some things to tell my dad and mom. I realize that I need to let a part of him go, and I was thinking about it before I fell back asleep and had the dream I just wrote about, but then I had the dream about him again....like I said I think it was just a dream, at least I want it to be one, I didn't get an easy feeling about him. It interested me about that little boy I tried helping though, it was weird looking through his body but I saw bricks around one of his organs, I think it was the liver.

Later today I'm also getting my wisdom teeth out, I'm hoping my grandpa will be there and holding my hand, I havn't felt him since the dream I had a few days a go. But the good thing about getting these teeth out, is that I'll be drugged up way to much to think about anything lol. The interesting thing is, I always held his hand with my right hand while he was sick, and thats the hand that always ends up cold, which is when I feel like he is touching me. The thing that I miss the most right now is holding his hand, no one else's compares to his.

Wow,

that's an interesting change in direction, isn't it? Your grandfather's mood change and the involvement of the boy could be related, or your guidance could be showing you other facets of the spiritual in order to give your grandpa a rest.  Actually, the boy could be part of your grandfather, a part that is bothering him now and keeping him from progressing on his journey.

Since you had no trouble going into spirit to see "the boy's" health predicament, you can easily get back to him and direct some healing. That may be very important for your grandfather, related to what we call a partial retrieval.   You can set yourself into a sort of fake dream-stage, a meditative quiet, and imagine the boy again laying down. Then you can ask for Help from Spiritual Helpers, or you imagine reaching out and gently lifting the bricks (blockages) away from him. That's it! You've healed him by using the best imagery for the job,  offerred to you previously.

The other visits with your grandpa in spirit may have been allowed to catch your attention and get you focussed on the Spiritual. It seems important that you go through with this healing, as the voice asked you to help.
Yes, it sounds like he is there for you, Re: the cold, and seeing him previously. --Now to be sure you are there for him.  Smiley  You are only a young person in this current body; what you are seeing and doing in spirit shows you have plenty of previous experience to rely upon, as well as the help of Helpers.

Thats a very good possibility that the little boy could be him. My grandfather was sick with many things, and one of the things he had problems with was his liver. Early on in the hospital, my grandpa seemed to have a blockage in his liver and was jaundice, both which seemed to go away, as they said the liver could help repare itself. It seemed that all of his organs were just shutting down. He was also filling up with a lot of fluid, which they suspected could have been from his liver, but wasn't definitely sre. One thing that was clear, is how strong of a man my grandpa was, never once did he complain. We were afraid to tell him he was dying, sometimes he wasn't in the right state of mind when they told him. He kept asking how long this "situation" is going to last and when he was going home, he was so insistent about going home, and I know everyone wished we could have taken him back to their apartment, but it was impossible with his health. The week before he died, on a a thursday he seemed like he was preparing for a journey. He asked for his keys, hat, slippers, and coat and said ok lets go. My oldest brother said no not yet Grandpa, later tonight what time? And my grandpa replied ok at 8pm. The following week, on a thursday I saw him take his last breath around 7:45-7:50ishpm. I feel like my grandpa was letting us know somehow, before he was in the semi-and full-coma the last few days of his life. And always being the prompt person he was, it was no surpise to us that he left the timing he did as opposed to right on the dot at 8pm.

I'd like to try and help him, but I'm not sure if I'm able to. Does this mean my grandfather is in pain, or can't move on? like stuck in limbo? I wonder if he knows who he is and if he is dead then. It makes me uneasy for me to think so, I always hated seeing him in pain and wished he would just go on to a better place and be with his family whose already passed. But since I'm awake now and its 6AM where I am now, I'll try to do it. Is there anyway that anyone else could try and help if I dont get it right the first time? And how do I know if I'm successful? If you can't tell, I'm a person who doubts themself a lot when put in an unfamiliar task lol. I have no clue how to meditate, but my plan is to just lay in bed and clear my head, think of what happened and hope for the best. I really have no clue what to expect, but I bet my imagination would kick in pretty soon.

Nothing would make me more happier than to try and help him though so i'll try. there's just so many questions I wish that could be answered, and I'm such a curious person always wanting to know.

On a lighter note, my grandma's started staying with my family since I had my wisdom teeth out, looking at the time, would be considered yesterday, friday. I put my hand out like I usually do to try and feel the cold of my  grandpa and I felt it a little bit. So i put my hand on top of my mom's, not touching just hovering above it and she felt the cold! I did the same to my grandma too and she said it feels like a "cold breeze". They were both amazed, I tried doing it to my dad as well but he said he couldn't feel it. What I think I heard in my head was tell you grandmother I love her, and said the same thing to tell to my mom. I constantly hear his voice in my head just of small things he would say, so it's hard for me to be sure if I made it up, or it was really him. Everyone felt both of my hands and the one that I usually feel him with was significantly a lot colder than my other hand, I think which made them all believe...even my brother.

By the way, I meant to say how much I appreciate you answering back! It's so nice to hear from someone who knows about all of this. Theres no one else for me to talk to about it, except my parents, who don't have more knowledge on it than I do.

Smiley Yes, we're having quite an extended conversation, aren't we? Cheesy

I enjoy talking with you,
and did expect some others to join us by now, but end of summer sees some who are interested in this type of situation vacationning with their families and one is out house-hunting. So don't be concerned that you are alone in this.

You are amazing that you have had this much involvement with your grandfather after his passing.  It does sound though that he could be stuck in 'limbo, ' not fully conscious of his death and worrying about his health. Stepping in to help him is what Bruce Moen, our host, teaches us to do but you were doing naturally what is required, up to now.

Yes, we can help. Please PM me his name and what general area of what country he lived in so I can ask Helpers to help find him. Then I'll 'show up' there and try to calm his agitation enough that the Helpers (angels?) can step in and rescue him. If you wouldn't mind telling me in the PM your first name I'll tell him you sent me to help ease any worries he has. They'll take him first to a level where his liver problems will be dealt with. You could do it, I know you could.  I wish you would not worry and do it yourself as it is so empowering to know that you can help someone that it generally inspires more involvement later with others who need us. We all have Helpers who can aid us in these matters but you've not got that trust yet.

If you cannot overcome your worries about this, I do hope you'll read some more here or in Moen's books about how it's done so that in the future you can use that wonderful sensitivity you have. Congrats on sharing that hand clasp with your grandmother and mother; it's good to keep people from fearing the spiritual.

Don't worry.
Love, Bets

Definitely we are having a nice little convo! And thanks so much, I enjoy talking with you too! Without your help I wouldn't know what I'd do, but I'm so thankful for you assisstance. Throughout the hospitals, nursing homes and now even with you, my entire family has come across some amazing people willing to help us, its been just awesome and a great experience.

I have always been very close with my grandpa, so it makes me so unbelievably happy that I can still be close with him after his crossing over too, I was worried that it would be a very very long time until I would be able to communicate with him again.

I tried meditating this morning after I sent my last message, or so what I thought was meditating, but all I did was fall into a dreamless sleep for an hour or so. Sometimes my house can be so busy and noisy its hard for me to close my mind. I'm also just not sure what to do, I tried clearing my mind and thinking about the situation in my dining room with seeing his liver blocked, and I tried asking in my head to anyone if they could help, but I don't think I got too far. About an hour ago I felt the coolness on my hand again and was able to let my mom and grandma feel it. I tried saying in my head that I was going to try and help him. I'll PM you everything that you asked for. I'll try again tonight when I'm more tired and its quiet and I can concentrate, we'll see what happens. I'm hoping it'll just come to me, I'll be basically winging it lol. It's true that I probably have not put trust in helpers, sometimes it can be hard to trust what is not clear for me to understand.

I'm going to look into some of Bruce's books, because when the time comes for my grandmother as well to cross-over, I want to be there for her like I'm trying to be for my grandpa. She sees the way I hold out my hand to try and feel for him, and I told her whenever she goes, she'll be holding on to my other hand. I'm glad she knows I'm aware of some spirituals things so it'll be easy for her to connect with me.

After my grandfather is helped by you and the helpers, will he be able to come back and visit from time to time? I've said over in my head how I know I need to let him go, that I'm sad it has to happen, but I want him to be happy and in peace. My main thing is, I just want him to be able to be happy, comfortable, and definitely not confused. And I have so much thanks to you for helping!

Hi LoveME8,

Your previous schedule of going back to sleep in the morning after a good night's sleep is one of the best ways to get into the right frame of mind.--- You've been doing so many things just right that I didn't take time to point them all out.  Wink  And you already have a Guide!? Goodness Gracious!

Don't worry or second guess yourself with the 'boy on the table' scene. Just tell yourself you will do it.
(That's called 'setting your intent' and seems to affect success alot.) Now that I have the names, I'll set my intent too tonight and in the morning, and post later tomorrow. My Helper/Guidance says it's already making some arrangements.

You said:  "After my grandfather is helped, will he be able to come back and visit from time to time? "  Well, actually we don't know what his family and guidance  there have arranged for him. He has things he has to do reviewing his recent life and next one, etc.  Some people such as you, open to the experience, have contact for several months, some not. But if you keep letting him know you love him, you'll be doing all you can at that point. As close as you are I doubt you'll have any final parting.  Cheesy

Talk with you tomorrow,
Bets

Hey Betson,

I thought I had a guide, someone awhile back told me who she was, but I haven't tried connecting with her in a very long time. But her name popped into my head when I remembered the woman beside me when I was with the little boy. I just tried clearing my head again and think I made a little progress. I remember just thinking over and over that I needed a helper for my grandfather and then out of no where, a fuzzy and dark picture of a little boy clinging to me as I carried and rocked him saying something along the lines of its ok, we can keep you. Something like that, but I quickly was woken up by a phone ringing and constant noise in my house which frustrated me. So I'm going to try back in a little while after I try to calm down. I felt so close though. If I try tonight and tomorrow morning as well, is there a way we can "bump" into eachother or so? Or we both can appear? I guess we shall see tonight, but I feel like I made a little progress this afternoon.

This also reminded me of around the same time someone told me about my guide, I tried to connect with my Poppy (my dad's father). I have never met him physically, but if you recall in one of my earlier posts, I told my mom when I was younger how I saw him while I was in her tummy. As I tried to connect to him I got goosebumps, and the hair stood straight up on my arm. I was overcome with such emotion and started crying so hard. It struck me odd because of all this emotion I felt, and I never even met the man. I closed myself off to it because I became scared and had no one to really talk about it. But if I can get this connection back, theres no way I'm turning away from it now.

You said your guide is already making arrangements, thats great to hear! I hope all goes well thank you so much!

Greetings--
this is a summary of the PMs that loveME8 and I exchanged regarding our progress in contacting her grandfather:

LoveME8 sent her grandfather's name--first name Harry (which perhaps connects to Juditha's comments on another thread?)
I immediately asked Guidance to help me find him in order to find out why his health after death seemed to improve then regress, and to reaffirm ME8's and her family's love for him. That evening I repeated my intent to find him and Guidance said he was found, so contact was quick.

In glimpses I saw a man with receding hairline except for a center strip which was grey and combed directly back.  To sketch him one would use mostly straight long lines, not curves. I told him I'd been sent by his granddaughter and used his special nickname of her. He chuckled and said 'she would do something like that.' But then he became immediately aggravated and seemed to mumble. He was talking to himself about a lovely farm he had once seen that was for sale then and how it would have been such a fine bequest to leave his family now. So I asked him not to worry in hindsight but to realize he must have lived right because he is so loved by his family. (Actually I started to tell him that at' the better place' there were strong spirits who could perhaps affect changes to get the farm to his family even now......but Guidance interrupted me and told me no, wrong idea.)
When he accepted the thought of their love and relaxed, Helpers immediately moved in, took him by either shoulder, and lifted off with him. "That's it?' I asked after a moment of silence. 'Yes, go back now, 'Guidance responded. I felt motion and a slight drop, then back in my body I went to sleep.

LoveME8 confirmed her grandfather's appearance and his habit of chuckling. Unfortunately no one in her family can recall anything about his hopes for the pretty farm.

A possibility exists that he was in the Afterlife briefly, then returned due to his worrying about his family.  His hair was seen during the contact as it was from an earlier age, but he had not yet reached an age of vitality that loveME8 hopes for him so he can resume the active life he once had. That would correlate with him appearing in her first dreams as recovering from his illness, then later looking weaker again.

(Due to her confirmation of his hair, nose, and chuckling, I'm cross-referencing this in Retrievals Forum, as it seems probable that contact was made.)

Greetings,

Last evening loveME8 PM'd me to ask about having a test to prove it was her grandfather.  I agree we should have, but I didn't have it ready when I visited him.

So I suggested that she could set up a question when she sees him again, regarding a secret that he shares with some family member, then tell her answer, and she can go to them and confirm the truth of it.
Or LME8, you could just ask him if he talked to me and what he told me--! (Answer: about the farm.)

Life and love are eternal,   Smiley  so this doesn't end their excellent relationship.
