book of life
May 12th, 2007 at 10:09am

I haven't been able to remember any dreams for a while.  Last night in my dream someone gave me a kind of book. It had the women of the 70's in it, film and musical artists.  I was very excited as I began looking at this.  There were movies in it, movies I'd never seen. When I tried to look for a certain film it was not there, but all sorts of things I had never heard of. I saw many many actresses. Then I found the entire works of Barbara Streisand. I could not focus on one thing, or else I did not have time, or else I did not remember.

I think I was overwhelmed.  Perhaps it was not of a particular era, but it seemed to be of that time, expanded in some way....it was huge.  I could have picked any piece of it and gone further into it.

I have been working with Kelly Howell's "The Secret" meditation for about a week. I think she is convincing me subconsciously that everything in the universe is accessible to me. I have no other explanation.

It was very positive. All the actresses were smiling, and they were portrayed in the most positive light. It was like a beautiful compilation of some kind.

I wonder what will turn up there after another 5 weeks of this meditation?

Greetings blink,

How do you relate to the '70's--were you born then?

Hearing about the roles played by others reminds me that each life we are playing a new role as an actress; we are each our own new character.  Wink

I was born in 1960. The seventies represent for me many things. I have many fond memories of the theater group I was involved in for four years in high school.  Also painful memories.  I was extremely shy and this was an activity which partially allowed me to "come out of myself" and learn about the joy of artistic expression.

It was the time of the birth of my creative self.  During these years I would sit down with a piece of paper and allow a poem to flow out of "nowhere" and lead me "anywhere" and I never sat in judgement of it. It simply was.

It was a time in which I quickly moved into writing some very complex poems. Life's difficulties as I moved away from home too quickly shut this down. In fact, at a certain point I practically stopped writing for 25 years. I regressed.

I am now opening back up to this creative process, in writing, in fledgling attempts at art, in living.

So, this "book" perhaps was a place for me to revisit the joys in an expanded way, a more universal way?

I don't know...

Well, now I notice something interesting. I deliberately came to this site this morning before looking at the news. I went to CNN and noticed an article proclaiming that Turner Broadcasting is celebrating the fact that Katherine Hepburn would have been 100 today, if I read it correctly.

I did not know this. I had not read this. I very seldom look at tv news. I live alone. No one has spoken of this to me.

Anyway, there is talk of how things have changed over time.  Turner Broadcasting is apparently playing lots of old movies on its classic channels here in the U.S......I don't have those channels. I have only the smallest group of local broadcast channels, and I watch very little television.

It said in this article that she was the originator of the phrase "box office poison" after a string of failures in the 30's. However, she apparently was best when she was playing a role closest to herself.

And she is a legend. Of beauty, class and independence. She created her own legend.

Just another incidence of synchronicity in my life.

Someone would say: oh, you saw it somewhere, you knew somehow...I didn't.

It is synchronous. Sometimes I think everything is.

That's quite a book Blink.  It recalled to mind a movie called The Neverending Story, I think.  It's like if you probed into it more everything would be there.  Yet you picked up on movies and music -- two forms of interactive creativity.  That's great.  Can I borrow the book when you're done with it?

Too cool blink!  And..we're the same age.

Someone from high school found me on myspace.  I haven't thought of any of them in a very loooooong time.  It was weird to think it had been 30 years..

Thanks for your replies!

Another funny thing happened on Saturday when I posted these messages.  My boyfriend came over with a couple of VHS tapes.  When we were together 25 years ago he was working on a film--I was in it quite a bit, and lots of our friends.

While working on this film he was learning about how the eye sees images, and playing with speeding filmed images past the eye.  None of us really understood what he was up to at the time.  We'd have "play" parties and other activities and do whatever he asked and it was fun. There was a "story" (sort of) but it was a pretty spontaneous and kooky little film.

Well, he brought this stuff by and started showing me different versions of the film he'd continued working on after our breakup. He never finished it, but it still has potential.  The images do not look dated, which surprised me.  He didn't bring the color versions over so I only saw them in black and white, speeded up versions and slower versions.  It was ever so much fun seeing myself and all my friends from long ago, and to see this art he had created from us.  He had also taken television images and added them in here and there.

So, again, synchronicity with my dream! Actors and actresses...we were playing ourselves....and "playing".......

ha ha

There are other oddities happening....mainly, various problems solving themselves in interesting ways. Practically NO effort on my part. This Secret thing is real...and I supplement with some other meditational aids.

I've sort of been hitting it with meditations from several arenas, not necessarily connected with the current particular angle.  Strange, how things are falling into place in the oddest ways.
