I tried to contact my Guide...
Jan 22nd, 2007 at 1:11pm

Last night before I went to sleep.  I used the meditations from Sylvia Browne's book called "Contacting Your Spirit Guide".

Nothing happened and she says this is common but that sometimes a person will get an audible or telepathic answer immediately.

So I went on to sleep knowing my baby would be waking up soon for his first bottle, and right off the bat I had a dream.  I dreamed I saw myself talking to my Spirit Guide and I was saying mostly what I said in my meditations before I konked out.  I never got a vision of him or her (darn) or felt a presence and I was the only person I can remember from my dream.

I hope it wasn't a wasted effort.  What do you guys think?  Undecided

Sylvia said that you should keep on practicing those couple of meditations until they become more comfortable and you can easily get into the mood of it.  I haven't listened to the CD that came with the book yet so I should do that soon.

Also, two strange things happened to me over the weekend:  My TV turned itself off very early Saturday morning.  The baby and I were the only ones awake.  I got up and changed his diaper, and when I returned to the living room the TV was off.  The cable box was still on though.  I couldn't have accidently hit the remote because it was on the table.

Finally, the photo albums I've been working on for Judson (my baby) are in order and are leaning against his armiore on the floor.  This was again on Saturday- I walked into his nursery to put some clothes up and I noticed two of the albums had fallen down.  They weren't the two on the end, they were in the middle of the stack.   No one goes in there but me usually and they aren't out in the middle of the floor or anything like that.   Weird!

Well, thanks for reading if you got this far!  Cheesy

Wow, Kate..I've had similar things happen.  Like the dream, of talking to someone, or continuing what was part of my waking day in sleep.

I don't think its wasted effort..its the beginning.

As to things being moved around, around here its become a given.  An example: I placed my lighter on the coffee table, but later it was gone.  So, I asked my husband, and he hands me (seemingly) my yellow lighter back.
Yesterday, when I got home from work, there was MY yellow lighter (and his in my hand) on top of the tv. So, now there are two yellow lighters.

I think someone's trying to get your attention.. Smiley

Shirley,

You're a doll to write me back.  I'll keep practicing the meditations.  I know it takes patience so I just need to have faith and be... patient!  Grin

And I also wanted to say that the strange things just keep on coming.  I'm in shock. TWO things happened yesterday:

*I got in my car at noon to head home for the day (had to take hubby for his colonoscopy - that's another story  Roll Eyes) and right after I closed my door I heard a loud bang.  I totally thought someone threw a rock at my car.  I looked around and didn't see anyone and I wondered what the heck that noise was.  So I leave the garage and get on the interstate, and as I'm merging into traffic I see that my driver's side mirror has been knocked out of place.

*Last night I was up in the wee hours of the morning with my son.  Right after I sat down in our recliner I'm not kidding you when I tell you I felt a piece or section of my bangs being touched or pulled.  It happened so fast that out of instinct I reached up and smoothed my bangs down.  I pull my hair into a pony tail at night plus my son is in the hair pulling stage so it's never down when I'm at home.   Anyway, it was unmistakable - the feeling of my hair being gently pulled or touched.  I remember feeling my pulse speed up a bit but I wasn't scared.

I need to be writing all these occurances down.  Roll Eyes

Your story about the yellow lighter is fantastic.  So your husband has no idea where the second lighter came from?  Shocked  That's amazing.

I wouldn't put much faith in the teachings of Sylvia Brown.  She has been discredited and debunked by a staggering amount of sources as a phoney baloney.  She draws conclusions based on circumstantial stereotyping and process of elimination, just as all the frauds do.  Just watching her TV apperances will display this fact.  If you want to do an exercise to contact a guide, I'd reccommend downloading the Gateway Experience.  After listening to the track for contact with guides, I underwent a series of extremely bizzare experiences in both altered states of consciousness and in physical reality.  Sometimes those tapes can work magic.

Interesting experiences Kate, perhaps your guides are thinking something like, "man, i hope that grabs her attention."

Not to put anyone down, while i respect that Sylvia is trying to open people up to the awareness of the nonphysical, i kind of agree with Dude to some extent.  I don't believe she is a complete fraud, but i do not get a very genuine nor fast vibrating vibe from her.

But her belief systems and teachings are tools, and you certainly can use them wisely and constructively, just don't get hung up on specifics.

 Hi Kate,

What i said was just an opinion and me sharing some personal feelings.  Please don't take my word for it, this is something that you need to consult your own heart/mind and Total self about.   The fact that you were drawn to read Sylvia's books to begin with, most likely indicates that there was something of help to you within these books.

And, i also believe that she has done a lot of good for people too.  Many people read her books, she is fairly popular, and she has really strengthened a belief in the afterlife/nonphysical reality for many, she has made "psychism" and "afterlife" more common and accepted terms in our society .   That's a beautiful thing.

I guess i'm just trying to say and to clarify that its not "black and white" by any means.

Hope you continue to become ever more aware of your guidance.   Seems like you are doing a pretty good job of it, we all just have to trust more for it to work better and better.

I think i need to learn how to keep my big mouth shut more.

Hi Kate and everyone,

Your dream sounds like some I've had.  I think of it as one of those experiences that allow us to think more clearly in an altered state.  I'm sure you have plenty of distractions while taking care of your baby--we all have distractions in our day, so these kinds of altered stated are great for thinking more clearly and focusing.

A few years ago I was into Sylvia Brown's books but only in passing.  I never got stuck on her and stayed there--just utilized what I could and then moved on.  I agree with AhsoLaoTsuAhhOmmra's comments about her.

Kate, I agree that you should be writing these strange experiences down, so you don't forget them, so you can look back on them and see any patterns or other clues, and so you can keep your attention on the lookout for more to come.  Writing is such a great way to focus your thoughts and attention on something.

Shirley, I'm intrigued about the lighter--where did your husband find the one he handed you?  What was his feeling about this?  It's very interesting.

ASLTAO and Vicky,

Thanks for writing me - I really appreciate any helpful hints or direction from you guys.  Since I'm so new to all of this I need all the help I can get.

I really like Sylvia's humor - she's a hoot and she keeps things simple which I also like.  I'll follow both of your recommendations and look somewhere else for guide information.

Thanks for looking out for me.

Kate:

Just don't try to get a reading from Sylvia, because she charges $700.00 for a twenty minute phone reading. You know those two boys that were found recently after being kidnapped? A few years ago Sylvia told one of the boys parents that he was dead, and was killed by a man with a dark complexion. It turns out he wasn't killed and the man who killed him didn't have a dark complexion. When those miners were killed a few years ago, during the course of a talk show she first said they were alive, and then switched her story when it was found during the show that they were in fact dead.

This doesn't mean that she doesn't give good advice for contacting a spirit guide. I don't know, because I haven't read the book you speak of.

Dreams are a wonderful place to start. I've found that you don't actually have to meet a person in order to contact your guidance. I never have. If a guide such as your higher self or God provided you with guidance, any human like form they appeared in would be arbitrary.

You'll find out what's best for you. Have fun.

Here's a forum that speaks about Sylvia Browne's false prediction about one of the kidnapped children.

Wow.  Shocked

I read the link about Sylvia Browne.  Now I feel like such a GOOBER for buying one of her books.  Roll Eyes

See, that's why I'm so thankful you guys have taken the time to point me in the right direction.  THANK YOU.  Wink

And that John Edward guy.  My husband laughs every time he hears that guy's name.  He's never believed anything he said and made fun of me for watching his shows.  Well, geez, sometimes when there's nothing good on TV and you've got a sky high stack of laundry to fold, you'll watch just about anything.  Grin

Thanks again, Recoverer.  Smiley

Kate:

Don't feel like a goober. Just shows that you have faith in the divinity that exists within all of us. Sometimes it's hard to get ourselves to believe that people will use spirituality in an unloving way. It just feels so unnatural to do so.

Hi Kate nice pics! beautiful.  in regards to psychics, practicing or public or not here is a bit of wisdom to retain:

like every new sense it will be defective for a long time.

__

as regarding anybody in the spotlight, they are aware they will be under scrutiny and this makes it doubly difficult to perform as well to accuracy. we should not follow the media's opinions in any case because of the above statement about new senses being defective for a long time. a scientific study concluded as well psychic gifts of top performers fall well below 100% accuracy. This not to despair, we are new at this. give it time. I too enjoy Sylvia's humor as I'm a barrel of laffs myself and I do support what she says about asking for guides and that you can perceive guides in various ways, auditory or otherwise.

you've already felt your hair lifted, that is pretty good I'd say. I don't think any of us are truly alone in our thoughts and journeys. Trust your heart path. I think the Gateway tapes are good too, or reading books as guides can speak to you through books.
love, alysia

Alysia,

Thanks so much for your thoughts and also for the compliment on my pics.  I sure love those two kiddos.  Cheesy

I will continue to read and learn, and keep an open mind.  Oh, I wanted to tell you that my daughter had her first dream about her Paw Paw (my Dad).  She said she was asleep in her dream, taking an afternoon nap probably, and she woke up to happy familiar voices in the living room.  She got up to see what was going on and there he was, drinking a glass of sweet iced tea, talking and have a good time.  She said I was there too.  She said, "Paw Paw, is that you?  I thought you were gone!"  He said to her with a big smile, "No no!  I'm still here."  Awesome.  Smiley

I'm very interested checking out Gateway Experiences.  I vow to do that soon.  Time isn't on my side right now as I'm sure you understand being a Mom yourself, only you had twins so I salute you.   Smiley

Thanks again,

Katie
