The way i learnt was just by doing variations of the above, didnt really know what i was doing. I came to this site and was trying to OBE but couldn't, lost interest and gave up, then one day decided i really want to experience this and came back, read loads, started posting and trying. I wouldnt try every night, more like when i could remember and when i felt like it, theres no point in trying to force it.

From then on its just got better and better! Its just that first step and then the more you go out the better control, clarity and visuals you get, for me anyway.
