Title: Sky Anomaly
Post by Ralph Buskey on Jul 3rd, 2010 at 7:28pm
Greetings.

Here is a picture of the sky that I took while traveling through Arizona this past May. It seems to be a strange cloud formation or something else. I don't know what to make of it.

Greetings.

I sent this picture back in May to MUFON investigator Ken Pfiefer and he posted it on his website WORLDUFOPHOTOS.ORG in the strange-stuff Gallery:

It is worth it to check out the other photos at WORLDUFOPHOTOS.ORG as well, especially the ufo pictures.

It's still a mystery what it is, but it resembles a lightning bolt that I captured with a video camera back in 1990. Here are a few still frames of the bolt:

The sky anomaly definately wasn't lightning as it stayed in the sky for at least several minutes.

Hi Ralph,

Congratulations! I hope you get some good feedback for your sky anomaly!

Is there any value to sending it to a national weather site to see if they know anything about such phenomena ? It looks like a lightning bolt that 'changed its mind' and decided to turn around!  :)

Bets

Yes, it sure resembles those lightning bolt pics. How interesting. I don't see much lightning up here, the only kind I have seen are the big flashes and occasionally a true bolt. Not that many big storms here on Vancouver Island. Thanks for posting that great pic. Vee

That's a small tornado before it hits the ground. The wind is swirling like a small twister. You can see dark spots in the center of it from turbulence. Some of them don't make it into full blown tornadoes. Dirt devils in the desert look just like that only they start from the ground up with sand. They usually just spin themselves out and fade
