since the last update of this site, animated GIFs won't move properly. As far as I remember, the first time after the update sometimes they would move, but now they're completely dead . I use the newest Firefox on Windows ME (which is pretty worn out, so maybe that's the reason).

I changed my profile picture to be a little birdie, pecking at the ground.  Can you see it moving?  If not, it is probably a browser issue, like you say, because I can see it moving (I have IE 7).

No, the birdie doesn't move a bit.

I now notice, animated gifs which I have downloaded on my harddisc a while ago are running (with Firefox, ACDC etc.), and the ones I've downloaded today don't move, no matter with what software I open them. Strange.

It sounds like some kind of security setting, perhaps from a firewall software or third-party addon / application.  Would you happen to have ZoneAlarm installed on your computer?  I don't have ZoneAlarm, so I can't test this, but they have reported an issue with animated GIFs, and here is the solution:

Open ZoneAlarm and go to Privacy's Main Tab.
--> In the Ad-Blocking section, click the "custom" button.
--> In the Custom Privacy Settings window, select the Ad Blocking Tab.
--> In the Ads to Block section, uncheck where it says "animation."
--> Click "OK" on the Custom Privacy Settings window and put ZoneAlarm back into the taskbar.

You're right, it's ZoneAlarm! Now the bird is moving! Thank you very much!
I had to shutdown ZoneAlarm completely, as it seems these options you described seem to be only available at ZoneAlarmPro, and I have the free standard version, I'll figure it out.

My GIFs are now inanimate.
I didn't do anything to them.
They became typographical about the time you guys were talking (above.) I see blink's and maybe some others are this way now too.

hey Bets, it's our Macs. Spooky, you, me, and Nanner, I noticed none of our gifs of these four people work anymore due to the new forum we have does not like our Macs; can't be the browsers, as I'm sure each of us have different browsers.

I know for sure Spooky has a Mac as he sometimes draws his own pictures here for us and PC's don't usually allow that function. and you I know are on a Mac. Nanner is a graphic artist so it figures she would be on a Mac. I think Spooky has his problem solved though, so he must be better a tech stuff!

Firefox browser would probably solve the prob. however I just go to http: images when i want a smiley face, let me know if you want some information on that. be glad to give it to you.

and they moved, which they had never done for me before (Mac-itis?) But they don't show now except as type.

One of my posts today ended up with one GIF in font style and one smiley face that didn't move.

Seems there was a bug with the smileys.  If you had a single space before a smiley it would display the text only.  That should be fixed now.  :)
