Title: Google's listings
Post by betson on Feb 12th, 2008 at 5:43pm
Hi 2L Allan!

This question is not about a difficulty but it is technical---

Do you know how Google finds our threads here?  Is it how often it's brought up by readers, or how often the descriptor words of the search show up, or ---?

Any help appreciated!

Hi Betson,

It can happen many different ways.  One of the biggest ways is called "link popularity".  Basically, if someone links a reference post from this site, on another site...Google may "crawl" that other site and pick up the reference to this site.  There are a lot of other ways too, collaborative directory index, toolbar trackers, etc..
