Title: chat room difficulties
Post by laffingrain on Dec 30th, 2006 at 1:11pm
say Allen, I'm doing a mac with mozilla browser, chatzilla program and it wants me to decide which network to use:  webnet, delnet, efnet, freenode, hybrednet, quakenet, serenia, slashnet or undernet.

have any suggestions which one?

a little box does pop up where I type a message. however the puter says I'm supposed to put a command in there, not type things like "duh, where am I and how did I get here?

haha! seems like a valid question actually.

happy new year. grandma

This looks like IRC (Internet Relay Chat).  The chatroom on this site is independent of IRC (it runs on the webserver itself).  So, you don't need to use your IRC client, just click on the link that says, "Click HERE to enter the chat room" and it will run from your web browser.

Alysia- and Alan-- How come, each time I pop into the chat room, it pops another out?  Or, I will be in the chat at 8:00 PM EST and wait for 1/2 hour and no one else shows up.  I haven't contacted anyone yet in the chat room.  Any one else having the problem that you know of?

I haven't tried it for the reason so many of us live in different time zones, its hard to make an appointment so like u said theres never anybody there.

sorry you had to wait.  :-X

Hi Identcat--
Allan told me once that that pop-out person actually left 30 seconds earlier-- so we shouldn't take it personally.  :-[
I usually accidentally miss the 8 o'clock idea by about 15 minutes and not a soul is there then or anytime I try either. I'll keep trying tho if you will !  :)

I noticed this too, and was beginning to get an inferiority complex.  ;)  This version of chat is not perfect, but the price was right ($5 per domain license).  I'm planning to put a little counter on the main page, that will say how many people are in the chat room, next to the link to enter the chat.

One thing worth trying is to open the chat link in a new window/tab (right-click the chat link and open it in new window or new tab) while you are on the site.  Then you have a higher chance of being in the room when others join, but you can still do other things in the main window/tab.

I can't seem to open it at all..whether by clicking the link or trying to open in another window.  It just takes me right back to the main board.. :-/

Shirley,

Can you try again?  I fixed something the auth code, which validates you are logged in the Conversation Board before letting you in.  This may have been causing your problem.

Thanks,

Allan

Allen, you are my hero for the day! :) just clicked on it and it works.

a big blue colored screen popped up and Mozilla browser allows me to format the whole thing how I want it. looks like the best chat room I've ever seen from this end.

I'll be popping in to see if anyone's there from time to time. thanks again for making this possible for us Allen. I'd send money but I'm broke. :)

Yes!  Kinda like being beamed up?  ;D

Shirley and Alysa--- I went in the chat room again and saw Shirley's name-- but missed her. :'(
Let;s say we go in Friday at 8:30 PM EST and start one subject and try to keep it going to see if others will join us.  If that's not convenient---then Saturday.  That way the people who don't work across the country could all come in.  Let's say Saturday at 1:00 PM EST and see what happens. ---Cat
