Title: Proving the existence of Afterlife
Post by fern on Mar 4th, 2014 at 1:01pm
I have been thinking of a topic to research on for my college English paper and thought of doing one on Evidences of the Afterlife.

I'm stuck with one question though.

Why is it important for me to prove that the Afterlife do exist?

Will appreciate any thoughts and ideas. Thanks!

Part of the question is why is it important for you, right?

Hello Fern:

As a result of many spiritual experiences I'm certain that the afterlife exists.

This is very significant to me for the following reasons (there might be more):

1. It is very comforting to know that I won't stop existing someday and that a wonderful future awaits me.
2. The fact of how there is an afterlife provides more motivation for me to grow spiritually. Not only will such growth help me after the body I am using dies, it helps me now.
3. My knowledge has enabled me to get involved with spirit work that is helpful to others.
4. A part of knowing who I am as a spiritual being is knowing about the afterlife. Other wise I might consider myself to be nothing more than a body-based biological being. The full depth of me is beyond such limitation.
5. It is easier to deal with the challenges of this World if you have an understanding of the big picture.

Hi Fern,

Well, the existence of an afterlife is a topic of interest to just about every person on the planet, for the simple reason that all of us leave it during a process known as death.

Death is not an easy subject for a lot of people, but the more I study it, the more I realize that it is more of a study of life, rather than what we consider to be the end of anything. It's very helpful to me, personally, to know more about it, because any difficult situation seems easier when a person is more knowledgeable about it.

It is also a great way to be exposed to many different cultures' views on a variety of subjects, because the subject of life and death touches everyone in so many different ways.

Additionally, every person brings their own unique viewpoint to their studies. You may find a particular viewpoint which is helpful, not only to you, but to others.

One thing to remember is something which we occasionally mention on this forum. That is that it is very difficult to "prove" something to someone else. It is easier to prove that something is very very likely, from all the evidence gathered, but you are the only one who can really prove something to you.

Why look for proof the afterlife exists?  To know yourself, what you are and your relationship to God and your fellow man.  To know who and what you are, beyond a random jumble of atoms and molecules.  If there is an afterlife, and our consciousness persists, how would we change what we do day-to-day, knowing that about ourselves?  How many people live for the fleeting ego-related pleasure of the moment, because they think that nothing really matters, and they deny that they even have a soul?

Fern-

Bob has best answer...maybe your paper should focus not on whether the afterlife exists or not (trust me, nothing you can write will prove it anyway), but instead should examine why it matters to you that it does exist.

Or why it doesn't matter, as the case may be.  Writing about that strikes me as far more interesting and should earn you a better grade since it will require critical thinking on your part.  Anyone can dig up "evidence" but that doesn't require much independent thought.

R
also since this is an English paper, better brush up on your grammar!
