Songwriters: Stevens, Mark / Traditional

Morning has broken, like the first morning.
Blackbird has spoken, like the first bird.
Praise for the singing, praise for the morning,
Praise for them springing fresh from the Word.

Sweet the rain's new fall, sunlight from heaven.
Like the first dewfall, on the first grass.
Praise for the sweetness of the wet garden,
Sprung in completeness where His feet pass.

Mine is the sunlight, mine is the morning.
Born of the one light Eden saw play.
Praise with elation, praise every morning;
God's recreation of the new day.

Morning has broken, like the first morning.
Blackbird has spoken, like the first bird.
Praise for the singing, praise for the morning,
Praise for them springing fresh from the Word.

Praise for this song! It jubilantly rose out of my memory with the first three words of your (its) title!

(Hhmmm, there isn’t an emoticon for jubilation... :))

I'm convinced whoever wrote these lyrics was referring to day we die....in other words, On A Clear Day

"On A Clear Day (You Can See Forever) (Reprise)"

On a clear day
Rise and 1ook around you
And you'll see who you are

On a clear day
How it will astound you
That the glow of your being
Outshines every star

You'll feel part of every mountain sea and shore
You can hear
From far and near
A world you've never, never heard before...
And on a clear day...On a clear day...
You can see forever...
And ever...
And ever...
And ever more. . .

I sing that Cat Stevens song most mornings on my way to work, as I watch the sun rise over the farm fields and the Chesapeake Bay. Back in the day it was more of an ironic "hangover" song. How times change.

Bardo-

Chesapeake Bay huh?

Well then, if you haven't heard this old song by Starbuck lately you should fire it up.

Starbuck Moonlight Feels Right Lyrics

The wind blew some luck in my direction
I caught it in my hands today
I finally made a tricky french connection
you winked and gave me your o.k.
I'll take you on a trip beside the ocean
and drop the top at Chesapeake Bay
ain't nothing like the sky to dose a potion
the moon'll send you on your way

Moonlight feels right, moonlight feels right.

We'll lay back and observe the constellations
and watch the moon smiling bright
I'll play the radio on southern stations
'cause southern belles are hell at night
you say you came to Baltimore from Ole Miss
a class of '74 gold ring
the Easton moon looks ready for a wet kiss
to make the tide rise again

Moonlight feels right, moonlight feels right.

We'll see the sun come up on Sunday morning
and watch it fade the moon away
I guess you know I'm giving you a warning
'cause me and moon are itching to play
I'll take you on a trip beside the ocean
and drop the top at Chesapeake Bay
ain't nothing like the sky to dose a potion
the moon'll send you on your way

Moonlight feels right, moonlight feels right.

Betson,

I'm glad you were jubilated:) ha ha I don't think that's a word....

Rondele,

Thats a beautiful song! I agree, it sounds like how people describe their enhanced senses in the afterlife.

Bardo,

What a nice way to start your day! The morning I posted this I felt I had to play it repeatedly, and then sang it in the shower and all the way to work that morning. It had popped into my head for some reason.

NOTE REGARDING A MISTAKE IN THE LYRICS:

I think that one line in the lyrics I copied should read

"sunlit from heaven" not "sunlight from heaven"

but that was copied straight from another site.

-----------

Ah, Rondele, I see we're posting at the same time. I'd forgotten that song about Chesapeake Bay -- I'm going to go hunt it up right now.

Moonlight Feels Right was a one-hit wonder back in the 70s, and one reason why it still resonates with me is that it came over the radio just as my wife and I were crossing the Bay Bridge on our way to Ocean City.

Just a moment in time, but what a moment it was!  I'll never forget it.

I didn't know that Cat Stevens didn't write Morning Has Broken.  I'm a huge fan and love all of his music.  This song is one of my favorites since I was little and can remember listening to it from a young age.   :)

Vicky,

I didn't know that either until I looked up the lyrics. I remember being in my room one day when I was a late teenager (who loved her little transistor radio and fell asleep to it at night) and this song came on. At the first sound of his voice I sat down on the corner of my bed and listened to the whole thing, and it was magic. If you know what I mean. Just magic.

Rondele,

Wow, how romantic you are! Love that song, so cool, just a great feeling of freedom in it.

Well Isee, imagine me as a little kid in the 70s (I was born in 1970) watching Harold and Maude a hundred times just for the music.   ::)
