Title: My recent medium reading Post by ottawa1 on May 23rd, 2012 at 12:42pm
I had a medium reading yesterday from someone that was suggested to me. This person appears on national tv.
The medium kept throwing letters of the alphabet at me and asking if the letters had anything to do with anyone I knew, living or deceased. Of the 13 letters thrown out, I said that 2 were letters of first names of living people. I did not get any specific info from the medium about my deceased family members, and only did the medium guess correct cause of death of a family member when she asked me a number of fishing type questions. There was one part she was correct about (that I was feeling guilty-but even here she asked if me or the deceased person were feeling guilty about someone). Overall, it sounded mostly like cold reading with her asking me more questions than I her. That said, has anyone here come across a professional medium who gives really good, specific information which validates the deceased or correctly reads the sitter's past? I don't want to keep throwing money away on these people who all claim great things but most probably disappoint in the end because they are either frauds (who cold read) or who simply think they have paranormal powers when they really don't. |

Would you be willing to give me the name of the medium? I would like a reading from someone that can provide validation of the deceased and not do cold readings, feeding me things back based on what i say. Thanks.

I have had a reading with george Anderson 1 week ago. I was very sceptical and still am. I am going crazy thinking about my session. If he is cold reading he is extremely talented. Things were said that he could not possibly know. Things were said that he would be very unlikely to know, but could get to if he was cold reading. Anyone who has experience with Goerge Anderson?

Ottawa1,
Yes that definitely sounds like cold reading, and if it is real, it's not very impressive is it. I'd be very disapppointed to have a reading like that. Jens, Do you mind sharing the results of your reading? |

George Anderson has a very good reputation as being honest. He is reported to ask people to not feed him info, only answer yes or no to his questions..at least in studies. Is that what you found, Jens? I have never been to him, but years ago an aquaintance who had lost a child went to him and was given messages that were so personally meaningful she was (happily) stunned. It gave her a lot of comfort.
Yes that tape of Van Praagh is pretty poor performance. (He seems like he had too much caffeine.) On the other hand, we don't know if the messages were significant to a different audience member who did not speak up. Or if the person realized a connection after the show was over. or maybe he just missed. At least he missed on the people to whom he was pointing. Who is 100% accurate? Is your physician 100% accurate? and you pay him/her? Why do you look for 100% accuracy in a medium but not in a physician? What do people go to a medium for anyway? Are you looking for some personally useful information or are you looking for unrefutable evidence of life after death? If you are looking for the latter then I don't think it is fair to criticize bucause that is too much to ask. I went to a "Psychic Fair" once long ago. There was a woman there named Greta Alexander. She sometimes worked with police and you can find comments on the web talking about how inaccuate she was. I had a reading with Greta Alexander. I never had a reading with a psychic before, but she was donating the money to a particular charity and she seemed motherly. She made some predictions that I later felt had some validity. She said she saw the letters B,D and R (the ones with a line on the left and a curve on the right except for P). At the time they had no meaning for me but within the year I was involved with someone whose initials were R and D. Is that a hit? I didn't remember until I later read my notes. |

Rondele, yes it was as bad. I believe some people have this ability but have a hunch that Van Praagh does not have this ability and is just a cold reader making TONS of money on people who are hurting. |

I disagree to a certain point on that. The testing of mediums can produce absolute proof that may not mean the afterlife is a fact but DOES prove that the information we perceive physically in this world is not all encompassing, further proving that at the very least, some sort of non-physical existence exists.
Let us make a mock up medium reading which will consist of solid hits and according the Gary Schwartz The Afterlife Experiments, readings such as these are possible. Medium: Hello! Let me concentrate. I am a sensing a... d... could be Diane? Sitter: Yes. Medium: This spirit feels very feminine... also I sense a closeness. It seems like a close family member. Sitter: Yes. That is my sister! Medium: Oh wow... This is interesting. She is holding up an orange cat. Does this mean anything to you? Sitter: My poor cat... Yes... It's my cat. I had to put him to sleep a few months ago! Medium: She wants you to know the cat is with her. Sitter: Oh my Gosh..... Oh my gosh.... Medium: Ok... I think that is all she really needed to say. Let me concentrate for a few minutes. Sitter: Okay. Medium: I am sensing a J name. I can't make it out. It seems male.... Sitter: My father... his name was John. Medium: Ah... uh... This is weird. I see an old orange truck? I think he is showing it to me. Sitter: That's my Dads truck. Medium: Your dad feels like he is laughing. He seems to think the truck is a hunk of junk... He wants to know why you don't just get rid of it. Sitter: My God... It is.. It just sits there rusting away. I couldn't bring myself to get rid of it.... Medium: Yeah your Dad gives me the feeling like he is tired of having it sit there. He wants you to get rid of it! Sitter: It's so hard. Medium: I know it is. I completely understand. ( End of Mock up ) As you can see, with a reading such as this one, there is little doubt that the sitter and medium who have never met prior have just proven without the shadow of a doubt that Psychical existence is not everything. Note: This does not prove Victor Zammits "Realm of Light" which is based perhaps somewhat on some NDE's but is obviously primarily simply the opinion of Victor Zammit. (I hate that man so much... He doesn't help as much as damage afterlife research.) |

Focus, so you do not believe that communications that come via mediums (the very best ones) are enough to prove an an afterlife? If not, would other lines of "evidence" such as NDE's, apparitions, etc., taken together with "evidence" that bring to us, constitute proof enough of their being an afterlife?

My response was mainly to Lucy who claims that mediums do not provide absolute proof of the afterlife. I disagree with this posters statement to a point, as discussed in my example.
Lucy's point is simple enough, even medium readings cannot prove the afterlife is a fact. But medium readings CAN prove that SOMETHING exists. However, that something may not actually be an afterlife like we think. Even the seemingly ridiculous religious belief that demons are providing data to mediums is technically a valid theory. The only way to know for sure is for YOU as an INDIVIDUAL to DIE.* Sucks doesn't it? *Note I do not ask for you to come back to life. Your NDE is meaningless to me as I cannot establish how, when, where, and all of the answers that are required for me to accept it as scientific data. Anyone can have a dream like sequence at any point prior, during, or just before coming around after a death inducing medical issue. It is impossible to prove the NDE claim as anything more than exactly this. Unless you can see and verify factual test data I have placed for you to check while I temporarily induce death upon thee. |
