I read book by Dr. Raymond Moody and he described his scrying experiments-seems that very many people communicated and saw deceased relatives. Wonder if this was just the subconscious mind at play... |

Hello,
Any time we can stop our internal dialogues and rationale-seeking brain, we have an opportunity to look into other realms. ‘Scrying' is a term that refers to that process, when material ‘objects’ (if smoke and other formless matter can be considered material) are used to stop continual chatter and instead focus intent on non-physical realms. Before scrying can be effective one has to give up any negative feelings. A scryer might think he has to concentrate harder but it is that process that leaves no room for negativity. So why not go directly to Bruce Moen’s technique of remembering a love-filled moment? Putting oneself in tune with loving feelings from the start keeps a lot of negative influences from intruding, such as happens with an ouji-board. One trouble with such props are that they come with their own associations that can cloud our minds. For example if you scry with smoke, you might unconsciously recall a fire that threatened you when you were a child, and your attempt to contact information beyond the physical could be tainted by that. :)We --you -- don’t need material ‘props’ to reach non-material realms. But the question remains, when someone "sees" something while scrying, is this just something the subconscious mind pulls up or is this seen thing an objective reality (like a deceased person which really does exist outside of the mind)?

Hi ottawa1,
Thinking back over the experiences people have reported here and those I’ve had, it seems that what is seen can be part of the retrievee’s/ contacted person’s environment, like seeing a hospital/healing center that a wounded soul might be. OR it can be symbols of some aspect of the retriever and retrievee’s relationship, or (-: it can be a metaphor just for the retriever. There really isn’t an 'objective reality’ in these realms as we know it in material reality. Take the first example here. The retrievee might be found in a hospital-like setting by one, but in a sunny meadow by another. The ‘reality’ of both scenes is that they are in a healing place. What you see will have to do with your intent for going, and your own history. It will be meaningful even though it seems like a puzzle. I apologize that I can’t be more specific. Woops, that’s when done with an open heart, which requires some clearing beforehand. If not done with what is called an open or loving heart, then the unconscious can throw in some imagery that can be unhelpful. Getting into these other realms might not be quick. Are you already getting results from scrying? Betson |

Hi Betson,
Have yet to try scrying but reading about the process. Please correct me if I misunderstood you. Are you saying that the entity one "sees" does not exist on any energy/other level and that it is just our inner world that forms the image? My main interest in learning about scrying is to try and determine whether this is yet another avenue of "evidence" that points to an afterlife really existing. Dr. Moody writes about how many people came to his office and actually saw and communicated with deceased relatives while scrying; some patients claimed to have been physically touched or picked up by the deceased relatives. I don't think Dr. Moody ever came out and said whether he thinks these apparitions actually came from another world/level or whether he thinks they are just products of our subconscious minds and wishful thinking. I have not read all of Dr. Moody's books so perhaps at some point he did come out and speculate, one way or the other... |

I was actually thinking of the same thing. If scrying is not simply the subconscious mind creating an image, sounds, etc. Then one should be able to take a photo or video of the image seen in the crystal ball, water, etc. I am guessing that no images exist (people must have tried) which would likely mean the mind of the sitter is responsible for the image and the deceased are not really visiting and communicating. |

Hi,
Why do you add on "and the deceased are not really visiting and communicating” ? They (their consciousness) can be there, using the best means of communicating with the consciousness of a material person that they can. If they used no imagery and we just heard them inside our head, almost as our own thoughts, would we give that much attention? Probably not. So they use the strongest image they can, usually their appearance as we know it. Your conclusion seems tacked on, separated by the ‘and’ because it isn’t inherent in the first part of your statement. Betson |

Woops, sorry, I missed your post about Dr. Moody. He’s the one who so long ago influenced me about this.
I think he said somewhere that how contact is made is so difficult to describe that he doesn’t spend much time trying. It doesn’t follow the physics of the material world. He certainly spent alot of time discussing other aspects of such contact though. Why would he do that? Betson |

I have not read enough books by Dr. Moody but is is fair to assume that he believes that consciousness survives death?
