Title: A possible near death experience Post by Ralph Buskey on Nov 16th, 2011 at 5:27pm
Greetings all.
Here is something that happened to me yesterday that you may find interesting. On November 13 I became very constipated. I tried using an enema but it didn’t work. So I resorted to drinking magnesium citrate. After several hours nothing happened, so I gave myself another enema. After several minutes I passed some liquid number 2. I managed to get some relief but not all of it came out. I stayed up until 4:00 am trying to get the rest out but no success. After a few hours of sleep I got up for the day (November 14). I felt my intestines churning but nothing further came out. Later that morning I was very drowsy so I attempted a nap. When I started to dose off I started experiencing a near death episode. I saw a light in front of me and realized that I shouldn’t go into it. Then I saw a light to the left of me and a light to the right. I felt those two lights arouse me back to fully awake. I felt under the impression that they were two light beings helping me stay awake. I fought to stay awake for awhile then got very drowsy again. I nodded off toward sleeping when once again the two lights helped me stay awake. It was then that I knew I couldn’t lapse into sleep so I consumed two 200 mg pills of caffeine. At 1:30 that afternoon I went to play tennis hoping that would help me stay awake. It helped a lot. Later that afternoon I promised my mother I would visit so I went to Brick Town. That night I became drowsy and felt I may die if I fell asleep so I took more caffeine pills. At 10:00 pm I told my mother I was too tired to stay longer so I went home. By 11:30 I felt it was alright to sleep so I went to bed. Today I woke up at 12:30 this afternoon. I went to the bathroom and had a large mission number 2. I feel fine now and will avoid using magnesium citrate ever again as I believe the prolonged exposure of it in my system is what almost killed me. Ralph |

I said the wrong dates. I meant November 14 and November 15.

One more thing.
during the possible near death episode, I felt peace and serenity and heard beautiful music in the distance. It's possible that due to the lack of sleep I was having a vivid dream, but it sure seemed authentic. Ralph |

Now that I think about it, the reason may not have been the magnesium citrate. On the night of November 14, it was getting late so I took one of my sleep aids (25 mg Diphenhydramine HCL).
I waited an hour and was still wide awake so I took another one. After another hour passed I was still wide awake and by then it was 2:00 am. I took 2 more thinking that would do the job. At 3:00 am I was still wide awake so I took four more just to make sure I would fall asleep. At 4:00 am I finally fell asleep. At 8:00 am my wife woke me up and I stayed up for the rest of the day. Being that I took eight 25 mg pills of Diphendydramine (2 grams worth), I probably overdosed. That is probably more likely the reason that I was afraid of going to sleep. Ralph |

Oops. I meant to say 200 mg worth. Ralph |

Dear Ralph,
I hope you'll take it easy for a few days to rest up from all that. You and your body went through quite alot of such extreme contrasts! Good that you still made choices and followed your intuition on the meaning of the Lights even though you were probably rather 'out of it' at that time. Glad you're still here! |

Hi Ralph,
You definitely overdosed. You took too much of it in too short a time, where normally you have to wait 4-6 hours in between doses, one dose being only 50 mg. Overdose can cause hallucinations, but that's not to say what you experienced wasn't a real spiritual experience. The interpretation really needs to be up to you. As far as a true NDE though, I would classify a true NDE as actual physical death where it would be necessary to physically revive you. I'm a medical transcriptionist so my opinions stem from a medical perspective...only you can decide the true meaning of your experience. I can say this though, I definitely think you were in some altered state of consciousness which doesn't mean that your experience wasn't real. I just don't think you actually physically were in the process of dying. Let me give you an example...after giving birth I had pre-eclampsia which can lead to coma and death. Whether it was the medication they had me on or whether it was the severe medical condition itself, I was definitely in an extreme alterned state of consciousness. Although I was technically medically fine, just dealing with the effects of the pre-eclampsia, I too thought I might be dying. I was able to see auras for quite a long time, but couldn't get anyone to believe me. It was one of the most marvelous experiences of my life, and I am so glad I had an opportunity to see "for real"...that's what I called it. I was finally able to really see more real, more clearly than normal waking consciousness allows. Of course, the docs and nurses told me I was "just hallucinating." |

Yes Vicky, I agree with you, being that I already had slept for a couple of hours before this happened. I was just having a dream. The music and lights just made it appear to be near death like, based on the accounts I read about. One thing is for sure, no more taking too much sleep aid at one time. :P Ralph |

Maybe drugs should not be taken too lightly... I have my own experiences with drugs, be them illegal ones of different kinds (e.g. LSD, Cannabis, Amphetamines, and some other chemical and natural illegal and potentially dangerous drugs, but in moderate frequencies and doses) in my younger years, or socially accepted drugs like alcohol (still using it daily in the evening and night, but in small to moderate doses), nicotine (given up on it at last in April 2011, because of health issues with disturbed blood circulation in brain), caffeine (mostly in the morning, sometimes during daytime too, but in moderate doses).
Your description of your intakes seems rather unusual to me, but that may be a cultural difference, I'm simply not used to it and don't know about others, maybe I close my eyes at it, or people generally do it but don't speak openly about such things. My personal view is that drugs have impacts on the overall health of the bodily system and that the effects become more acute with higher age, while at younger age they can still be shrugged off. I knew some people who died of drugs prematurely in young or medium age, some already in their thirties, others in their fourties. I'm 46 years old now and know that I still have many things to do, so have to be careful, I would like to smoke cigarettes but I must not do it because it threatens my life expectancy drastrically, and I like to drink more whiskey because I like it, but must restrain myself because of my stomach, and I think I have already burnt many many brain cells with LSD and need the remaining ones. Maybe you might consider using less chemical aids to influence your energetic system...? :-) |

Sounds like you were fortunate/lucky Ralph. I expect all those sleeping tablets and the magnesium citrate would have lowered your blood pressure and other vital requirements and you might have slipped into a precarious coma. I think your sense to stay awake was possibly a good move. I hope you don't take so many tablets again.
Sensible words Oliver. I agree we need to do our best to preserve our brain and body. The brain has a certain amount of regeneration ability. If you keep away from drugs and exercise your awareness and mind well then the brain can improve, even during later age. I encourage us all to make this effort, especially if we want to get the best out of our brain. We can't afford to go damaging it with alcohol, smoking and drugs if we have things to achieve for which we need it. Some people have tough constitutions and can drink and smoke and remain as sharp as a tack but they are rare people. Most of us can't treat our bodies that way without damaging them. |
