Hi,

I wonder what the problem is for receiving Bruce's books...can't he send them?

In order to begin, you need to start at the beginning, whatever that is for you.  To me, it sounds like you need to change some of your thinking, or at least begin to change your attitude toward your thinking.  Instead of believing you are not psychic and cannot hear or feel people or messages, change your attitude to one of "I would like to be psychic, or feel and see and receive messages from people and experience the afterlife."  How you word it is up to you.  With that change in your attitude toward your thinking, you are making a beginning for yourself.  It creates an opening, then makes room for you to receive.

Once you're at the next step of allowing yourself to receive, you're well on your way to having some kind of experience that will be what you've told yourself you want to have.  The thing is, you don't know exactly what it will be, so you will need to remain open to receiving whatever there is for you to receive.  Don't feel scared...you're the one guiding yourself so you will give yourself the experience that is necessary for your growth at this moment.

From my personal experience I see a couple different ways this takes place.  One is that you do nothing in particular to "make something happen".  That is, all you do is go about your normal daily life with your new thinking in mind, knowing that you've set forth your request and that you've made room to receive a new experience in your life.  Then all you do is pay attention to anything new.  It could be a new feeling or thought, or noticing synchronicities happening in your life pointing you to read, learn, or hear something new.  I've noticed that being open to something new, a new change in yourself, means that you have to take steps, and one step leads to new thoughts and questions, which in turn leads to the next step, and so on.  Things just have a way of falling into place this way.

Another way is that instead of not really doing anything in particular, is that you do something specific.  That is, you create the feeling of what you want to experience.  It's easy through meditation, for example, to create the feeling of what you desire to have or experience, allow yourself to feel the energy of that state of being.  This too opens up your perception to be more aware of what you're seeking and asking for.

Bruce has some articles on this site which outline easy techniques to get you started on afterlife exploration.  It may sound like it's actually a little too easy, but that doesn't mean it isn't real.

So once you begin to realize that you are the one who makes yourself able and ready to have the experience you want to have, then you realize that making simple changes and taking simple steps puts you on the path you've been asking for.  Any new experience you have will help you learn something new, help open your perception for more, and will guide you to the next step of your journey.

By the way, it is my personal opinion that we are all naturally born psychic and aware of messages and spirit and energy.  It is just a matter of learning how to stop doing the things that block your perception of receiving.

Yes, meditation is the best way to go.  The more you practice it, the easier it becomes and the more natural it works for you.  You'll find out your own way to being connected to communicate and to receive.

I find that an easy way it works is to use the idea of setting intention and sending it out during the times you feel most excited or emotional about something you most deeply desire to have or experience, or a question you wonder about.

Then in the times when you are more relaxed and not feeling so intense and desperate, those are the times when it's good to sit quietly, eyes closed, focus on deep relaxing, even breaths.  Just feel, don't think.  Just be in a state of receiving rather than thinking or creating.  Even if you think you are receiving something, anything at all, don't think or analyze it.  Just allow yourself to only be in a state of feeling.

You'll get the most out of meditation when you can learn to separate thinking and feeling.

Vicky, I appreciated that thoughtful and well-described procedure.

The only aspect I might amplify, which I think you touched on, would be that it must begin from a place of calm and relaxation.  Any level of "trying too hard" or sense of "I can't" will make one's efforts futile...one must let go and let it come when it does.  My greatest hardship was initially calming down enough to simply let it come...once it comes, then get excited and go at it full-bore...but let it come first.
