Title: new here, need help
Post by jdee190 on Jun 18th, 2011 at 3:04pm
Hello, i always used to be a full believer in an afterlife being a Catholic, but recently i have read the works of Dawkns, Hawking, Hitchens etc on how there is no God or afterlife and it has had a devastating effect on my life,  have entered a deep depression and im now taking prozac :( I dont want my death or families death to be the end of us, i want to be with them forever, it makes me extremely sad that in 100 years our generation will cease to exist.

Can some of the folks here offer some help and advice? Are we humans just a fluke of evolution and are no different to a worm or a sheep, when we die? Its over?

It doesnt make much sense to me, 70000 people die a die, do all of them cease to exist or live on?

Please offer me help that the afterlife is real, my grandpa died 2 years ago and last month my gran was adamant she seen him in her house, she is ow at peace, sure she will see him  when she dies, but i cant believe her, i think its a hallucination

Hi there,

All I can say is that I'm certain that there is an afterlife.

I lost my 15 month old son back in march and I have come a long way since then in learning the truth on what happens after death. I have had numerous things happen since his passing which has blown my mind wide open.

I can assure you that I'm not in denial, I haven't had to take any medication to help me or had any form of counselling for it, I don't need them.

Also it's not a comfort as some non believers seem to think, I still won't see my son grow up or be able to teach him the things I was going to teach him. I'm only certain because of what's happened since his death and I can't deny them as I would be lying to myself, that's not a good thing.

Feel free to read my post history, I have put some of my experiences on here but there is a hell of a lot more which I haven't.

I will also say that I am not religious, I never have been although I have never said god doesn't exist as I don't know just like Dawkins, Hawkings etc although they seem to think they're in  a position to say this when they don't have the faintest idea in reality. I'm a normal 29 year old lad from England, I'm into cars, video games, women  ;D you get the idea lol.

Also I have never had an NDE or OBE.

Having said that my experiences won't convince everybody, I'm not trying to either, but I know they are what they are and that's what matters to me at the end of the day, but as you asked for help then I'll try my best to help you, it's best to experience things for yourself though to be certain from my point of view.

Thanks, Andy

thanks alot! The story of my gran was that she has been depressed ever since my grandpa died, never knowing what happened to him, last week she was sitting reading the paper and she felt somethig touching her arm, she looked up and seen my grandpa in spirit form but she couldnt see his face she said, he then turned and walked into the kitchen.

She is now happy and totally at peace, sure it was real

Hey jdee190,

and welcome on board!

I'd put it like that; for each person who believes there is no afterlife, there's at least one who does; for each Hawking there's a Van Lommel.
It's not possible for us to prove either; it's nothing but word against word.
Meaning; feel free to believe whatever feels good to you.
My believe is that it's meant to be this way.

I wish you hadn't brought up worms or sheep. The brain of a creature has nothing to do with its spirit/soul. Otherwise we could as well discuss whether we're only going to allow doctors and professors in the afterlife.

And please don't be so harsh on your Grandma; it was her experience; brought forth from her love for her husband.

take care,
Vagabound

Hi jdee190,

depression resulting from exposure to hardcore materalist viewpoints is not uncommon but they represent only one perspective- there are others as Vagabond suggests !

Have you come across Victor Zammit's site (www.victorzammit.com) yet ? You can download his book and sign up for his weekly newsletter. Reading his material and following/reasearching the links should keep you going for months !

For my money his lawyer adversarial style is overly confrontational but there is no doubting that he knows his subject and really has done his research.

On a number of occasions I have felt something touch me, one time I felt someone put an arm around my waist but no one was there. I kept my mouth shut on this one as a little test and then the other day my girlfriend asked me if I had felt someone touching me as she had felt it happening. Like I said I kept my mouth shut even to her.

So ask yourself this, how can 2 people experience the same thing without knowing that it was happening to the other beforehand?

It was real not hallucination or any other "rational" explanation. Also spirits doing things is a rational explanation in my opinion.

What you said about your gran is also real as you said it helped her and made her feel better. An hallucination wouldn't do that. Why would a persons mind lead them into a false sense of security? It wouldn't.

I would give her more credit than what you have done with this experience, as has always been said respect your elders lol.

I'm not preaching that this is what you should do by the way, I'm not like that, It's what I would do in your situation, if that makes any sense.

Thanks,

Andy

Thanks for your help everyone, i am doing better but still struggling with the fear of dying. I shouldnt have these fears, im only 17 years old!

My grandma also spoke of a weird smell when she seen my grandpa in front of her, is this common?

Does out mind exist outwith our brain? I was told that a simple MRI of the brain can show you the mind

Jdee:

I have had numerous experiences that have let me know that the afterlife exists. One time I experienced a heaven-like realm and it was absolutely wonderful. The validity of what I experienced was certain. Based on what my experience was previous to this experience, there is no way it could've been the result of my earth-based memories.

I don't mean that one gets to move to such a realm just like that. The more we know about unconditional love and the more we aren't limited by false beliefs created by others, the quicker we'll move onto a wonderful way of being after we die. I said "know about unconditional love" rather than live according to it, because even though it is good to live according to it as much as we can, it is sometimes difficult to do so while we live in this world. Therefore, it is a matter of knowing about it and living according to it as best as we can. Life in this world is partly about making mistakes and learning from them.

I know the above is just words. Certainty usually requires our own experience, but perhaps the above and what others said will help.

Yes they are just words but VERY good ones, Albert.

I have moments of doubt too and I've been plugging away at this search for some years now. I read the skeptics and both sides proof. I try to keep it balanced though so I don't fall too far into the abyss of doubt or become overly confident about the afterlife.

I have found so much info, but I feel the best refuters of evidence are the pro afterlife folks. Chris Carter's latest book is a great place to start putting the most recent materialist arguments to rest I think. It's on Near Death Experiences but he has another one on PSI too.

You're welcome jdee:

The experience I speak of was like an NDE but I didn't experience a near death event.  I figure I had it for no other reason than it was an experiece I was meant to have.
