Title: Help interpreting fish dream
Post by Ella on Aug 12th, 2010 at 10:09am
I had a dream last night and I've looked around the internet, trying to figure out what it meant, I have not had any luck. I need help to figure it out. :)

I hardly remember the first part, but what I do remember is I was trying to find something. I didnt know what I was looking for, but I went to an old friend to help me find it. Her and I, and my 3 month old boy walked along a long dirt path. It was very sunny and desert like along the trail. We were walking up hill and when we got to the top there were a bunch of people on a beach. My old friend told me that her boyfriend is waiting for me to take me to where I needed to go, and she turned around and walked back. I saw her boyfriend (which him and I used to kind of be friends too) We walked across the beach and ended up at a bridge. (this is the point where I remember things clearly) We slowly walk across this bridge, which has no railings, and there were people all around me, fishing. I looked over the side of the bridge and clearly seen a fish swimming toward me. All the fish were big, like half the size of my body. I dont know what type of fish they were. But I looked across the water and on the other side was a very small beach with people fishing. And I remember thinking that I was just over there the other day, fishing, and I should have been over here because the fish are much bigger. When we finally crossed the bridge and were back on the sand I saw a woman pull a giant fish out of the water. We walked onto a board walk with a lot of buildings. We stopped in front of one that said the name of the place my boyfriend just got a job at (literally the day before) and we walked inside. The boyfriend who was leading me to that place, that place I was apparently looking for, grabbed an application for a job there. I did the same... and then I woke up.

So.. who ever might be able to help me with this, I greatly appreciate it!!! :) If anyone has any questions, I'll happily answer to the best of my knowledge. Thanks

Hi Ella,

Here are some suggestions I can think of:

I think the bridge is a very significant symbol because it seems to symbolize a crossing over, transformation, or connection.  So it was leading you to something that you didn’t make a connection between before.  You also said that you remember much more clearly after the bridge.  (Doorways, windows, and curtains do this too…anything that you pass through is a connection to your higher awareness).  The boyfriend seems to also signify bridging a connection for you, and could even represent your real life boyfriend.

About the fishing, it may symbolize happiness and abundance.  You noticed bigger fish coming toward you because of these new connections that you were not previously aware of.

You said your boyfriend in real life just got a job at the place you were led to in the dream.  So perhaps you are literally desiring a new job, or maybe it symbolizes another kind of change.

I think the important things for you to focus on are:
1.  Going out of your way (the long walk to get there could be a process that needs to take place or is already taking place, and your willingness to accept this process).
2.  Making a new connection or transformation.  (Allowing yourself to open up to new ideas and processes).
3.  Abundance (Bigger-than-life-size fish.  This could mean that you’re opening yourself up to having more than you thought possible before.  Definitely a good sign.
4.  Getting an application (which is either literal or symbolic.  Symbolically it could mean putting yourself out there to see what you qualify for, being unsure what new things you’ll bring into your life but being willing to try something new and allowing yourself to learn or go through a learning process.  You said that in the dream you didn’t know what you were looking for, so it seems to signify you’re ready for something new that’s coming into your life.  Allowing yourself to be a newbie means you are ready to make big changes for yourself because we are never newbies for long.  It is the beginning of something.
5.  You said you went to an old friend to help you find what you were looking for.  That seems to signify trust…that you are ready for the new thing that’s happening in your life and you trust and accept whatever process that will be taking place.
6.  Since your real life boyfriend literally just got a job there, maybe you see this as being a good, new change in your life?  The beginning of something that will transform things in a good way?  Or maybe even just a step up in the right direction?

It’s fun to find interpretations for dreams, but of course the real meaning is up to the dreamer.  Usually whatever feels right to you is the right answer.

Love,
Vicky

Hey Both,

This is quite interesting as i have also been having dreams which contain fish, and have been trying to decipher the meaning.

Often i had a fish tank, and im trying to keep the fish fed. There is either too much, or they grow too big - often resulting in their death, or the water bubbling and killing them.

In other dreams i am at a swimming pool, or at a resort abroad and there is a giant shark and whale in the pool which attempts to get me if im in it.

Your insights are interesting Vicky :) - i have read that fish can represent abundance/wealth. So perhaps the threat element is the fear of loosing something. Im not sure.

Sorry for posting on this old post, just found it interesting as i was searching for this myself :)

Cheers.

That's a lovely dream. To me; fish as a dream symbol represent spiritual aspects. So if this were my dream, I would interpret it as meanign that I was transitioning or crossing over in to a more mature part of my life. That I am at a place where I will begin to apply myself for greater growth.

Starlighted: if this were mine dream, I might interpret this a little differently. Symbolically, a fishtank is a sign of containing spiriutality , maybe overzealously since your overfeeding them. WIth good intention - but nonetheless. Especially when you consider that the other part fits in as well. In the swimming pool with shark and whale might be symbolic of a spiritual search having artificial elements or trying to find a balance between a religious fanatic and super spiriutal charism. This could be you or you trying to get away from how you were raised.
I have a similiar reoccuring dream too - swimming pool and sharks and whales! SO, I have studied this. It doesn't sound like a "good" dream but I beleive there really are no bad dreams. Dreams are your own subconscious bubbling up to guide us and when we learn from them and bring the lesson to our conscious mind, they usually start to manifest in RL and we move on to the next lesson. No biggie.

I also dream of fish very often, either as live animals or as in someone's surname; I'd agree it has to do with abundance, whether spiritiual or material it's hard to say, but it seems to be a very positive symbol.  Fish are in a sense "supported"  within their environment, buoyed up by the water/emotion; to me they symbolise spiritual / higher thought. . . . .
