Title: My elderly mother says she feels "out of her body" Post by Calypso on Aug 2nd, 2010 at 11:04am
My mother (82 years old) is suffering from grief and depression following the death of my father last June. She has recently described the "feeling in her head" as she puts it as feeling like being "out of her body".
She has repeated episodes when she thinks it is last June, and dad has just passed away a few days ago, as if she keeps moving back and forth in time. She also sometimes has episodes when she says she "just saw him a minute ago sitting on the couch". Her doctors, (she has many now!) have diagnosed it as dementia brought on by depression, and they are treating her with anti-depressants. Is there anyone here who might have any thought on what is happening to my Mom? Do you think she is traveling? Thanks for any advice. |

Well I think grief can do a lot of strange things to people, #1. #2, she probably does see him cuz he's hanging around her, knowing she is still grieving.
My mom went through a divorce (she's in her 60s) and 3 years later she's just coming through it. She has had swiss cheese brain for 3 years and I think it's early dementia. While she knows what day it is, her memory is shot. She also was diagnosed with epilepsy (which everyone thought was panic attacks, but wasn't). So, a thorough check up, especially by a geriatric specialist and perhaps a neurologist seems in order. I would go with the dementia medicines, like Aricept, but I'm not a doctor, nor do I play one on tv... Good luck... |
