Title: Dr Says he can prove life after death
Post by Rondele on Feb 12th, 2010 at 5:29pm
FYI, tonight on O'Reilly Factor (Fox News Channel) at 8pm EST, there is going to be a doctor who claims he can prove we survive death.

For those of you who get FNC, this could be an interesting segment.

Will definitely watch it.  But not for nothing, no physician can prove life after death.  All anyone can talk about is how a patient was clinically dead (no heartbeat, pulse, blood pressure), and then came back or was resuscitated.   There are stories about this and of course NDEs of how patients heard conversations while clinically dead or saw things in other rooms, etc.

Still, I will be interested and watch.

Hi,

Would the interview be more impressive if we hadn't already considered most of their discussion points?  For a typical O'Reilly follower, for example?
They talked (briefly) on topics such as Hitler, constancy of lovingness, etc --- it's all so consistent ! And the author kept count of the NDE people he researched, 1,3++ !

Matthew, I think it shows how far you're into this afterlife knowledge to think that the interview was unimpressive  :)

Doc-

The interview didn't live up to its hype....nothing that was said "proved" life after death.  Of course, that's how they draw viewers in.

But then, it's a good sign that the medical profession is taking this thing seriously.  I'll certainly read Dr. Long's book.  1300 case studies is impressive.

(Bets- I'm wondering, what is a typical O'Reilly follower?)

Rondelle, I love the question; where do you live?

Still it is interesting tha O'Reilly woul dhave a topic like this. What DOES that mean? I guess it is developing universal appeal. But I don't know how O'Reilly wanted to use the answer.

Hi Lucy-

I live in northern Virginia, near DC.

I think there's a certain misconception about O'Reilly and probably the entire Fox News Channel.  In my view, it's one of the few channels worth watching, which no doubt explains why it blows away all the other cable shows in terms of ratings.

Anyway, obviously the producers of the show are aware that the subject of NDEs would draw a big audience.

Also, I think having Dr. Long on indicated O'Reilly's personal interest and belief in the afterlife.  If O'Reilly thought the topic or the author was bogus, he would have torn him a new one.  And would have done it with relish!

Even though he correctly said that the book was essentially anecdotal and therefore not proof of anything, he was nevertheless receptive to the concept.

Chances are, if you were to ask him his own personal opinion, he would say he's a believer.

Obviously he couldn't go ga-ga over the existence of NDEs, that's better left to Oprah. ;)

Nice to see the topic going more mainstream. Its worthy of the time. As for O'Reilly, well.....a little to far to the right for my liking. Course, then there's Beck. Scary! Well at least trying to be. (Makes me wonder if there is a Republican hell? You know, where all the "good" Republicans go when they drop their body. For a while during the Bush decade,  I was thinking that I was in it :D) I do appreciate him opening up his show for the segment.

Hi Rondele,

You said "Bets- I'm wondering, what is a typical O'Reilly follower?"

Touche', there probably is no typical O"Reilly follower.  Thanks for the reminder.   :)
