How do you know if you're having a regular dream or if your dream is related to a visit to the afterlife?

I had a dream last night and I visited someone that has died. It all seemed so real but then those "dream" elements started creeping in like really ridiculous things started to happen...if you get what I'm saying.

It left me with a lot of questions.

Some people have reported experiences that sound as if they started an afterlife visit, but then slid into a fantasy dream during the same session.  I can't get an opinion on yours since you didn't describe it much but that could be what happened to you.

Perhaps you have big doubts or fears that would pull you back from such a new experience.  There's really nothing to be afraid of -- I got into these afterlife visits and I was a big fraidy-cat.  :)

Since you now see that it's easy to slide out (or click-out) of any non-physical state you are not comfortable with, perhaps next time you could stay longer in the Afterlife!

there are a couple of dream dictionaries online. You may wanna look up some of the things you still remember, just in case. It may not be quite as ridiculous as it looks at first sight.

Communication with those in the "afterlife" can be confusing also. As NVC is normally used, sometimes in an attempt to communicate thing can get confusing. I believe it important to write down the dreams if your having problems and go over them later. See what comes to you when you review.

'Ridiculous' elements don't faze me, I guess. What I would 'go by' is how you felt after the dream. Was there a special positive vibe there? Was there a strange 'deja vu' feeling that won't go away? Did you feel any sense of closure, or just relief? Any sense of love or delight?

I guess, I'm just saying, if it left you feeling down or with a 'bad taste' in your mouth, probably not such a dream to hang onto. I say, go by the feeling you got. A clear sunny day, a refreshing breeze. That's the feeling I look for.

I think it all depends vivid the dream is.I get most of my contacts from dreams.the longer the they are,the valet they seem to be.I had dreams of past lives,even back to the time of christ.to write them down after,you have to be fast because they fade very fast.At one time I recived all the numbers in the lottery,but I did not have a pen or paper to write them.I knew there were 4 numbers in the 40s,and sure enoughwhen the draw came up,there were 4 numbers in the 40s.I could kick myself for missing out.George

Thanks everyone. The ridiculous things that started happening were people, who are still living on Earth, started showing up. Actually four of the dead person's family members showed up.

(Although it may not have been that absurd) and a dragon showed up and I got on his back and flew away.

Stuff like that. But the person that I visited....it was sooo real. And I was very sad upon waking up. So much so that tears were running down my face because I didn't want to leave that person behind.

ETA: I did ask my spirit guide before going to sleep to show me what "future" life I had in store. I was trying to do a future life progression.

In my phasing experiences there were many where I fell asleep/dreaming. When the sleep/dreaming period was short enough, I could remember both, the initial conscious phasing period, and the there-just-happens-something dream period, both are very different. So, there are quite different and discernable states while bodily sleeping.
   Dreaming does not necessarily mean nonsense, but it can mean a confusion of different sources. Finally it's your dream, it must have something to do with yourself.
   Thinking about the dragon you rode at the end of your dream together with your intent to see a future life, it's easy to see a connection between those. And those people you saw might play, or you're wondering if they might play a role in your next life.

I guess what I mean by nonsense is the stuff you see in your dreams that is so crazy, you KNOW it's a dream? Like falling asleep to the History channel (true story) and dreaming you're standing next to Adolph Hitler.

I just wish I knew if any  of that stuff was related to a future life, what did it mean specifically? I'd hate to ask my guide tonight and have ANOTHER weird dream explaining the dream that I had last night.

Another point I want to make.

Could it be that this may be my last incarnation? The reason why I saw myself in the afterlife, was because I'm on my last life here?

Just the other day I was mentioning to a friend that it had been a while since I remembered a dream. Well, sure enough, that night I 'remembered' being very busy the night before, when I woke up. I knew I had had several dreams, and an image was 'stuck' with me from the dreams. It was the back of a man, and was superimposed on the image of someone I know well, but I knew when I woke up that the images didn't 'match' and my mind 'stuck' with it until I figured out where the 'back of a man' image came from. It was an image from a news article I had read that day. So, the dream had another layer to it, something else I could look at, if I wanted to do that.

Speaking of dragons, I saw a picture of a snake with a foot recently. Dragons were mentioned in the caption of the picture, and my mind was actively creating a dragon out of the ordinary looking snake with a silly foot coming out of its side. Why do I mention it? Well, dragons are just not a usual subject of conversation in my world, not ordinarily.

So, standing next to Hitler. That could mean all sorts of things. I think it depends on the context, the larger picture of it all. Great for you if you can decipher it all, but maybe you get 'another chance' if it doesn't all come to the forefront immediately.

People who are alive joining in. Well, that must happen, too, all the time. Seems like Juditha just created a post about the same thing happening to her. All kinds of spirits, just making themselves visible, making themselves felt. Sometimes it may seem to be too much. In such cases, I can feel my ears closing (physically, really, lately) and my mind blocking off the dreams so I won't remember, so I can have some peace. I do think we have a choice, at least for periods of time, to skip the 'lessons' -- or just to do it in a way we don't remember. Kind of like sleeping on your books and waking up and knowing the answers. Like magic.

I think this is a big possibility as well..I could have been in different states of alertness(?)

If you ask, and then actually have another weird dream, you might consider if this "dream language" is that language which presently is the one which comes through best to you, or is for whatever reason the most appropriate one for you in the moment. I often think that it could be the reality, when not focused on the physical, just IS more dream-like than physical-like.
   Dreams mostly are put together of snippets of our physical life. So, when dreaming of standing next to Hitler after watching something about him on tv, we could just say "ah, it's coming from that". But that's only the half of the truth. Your dreams are YOUR dreams, YOUR thoughts. Such a dream can tell you for instance how much tv influences your thoughts. It can tell you what part of that tv watching it is what you are interested in. And from that, why? How did it feel standing near Hitler, and who is Hitler for you in this situation? The absolute evil you fear? The absolute earthly power you maybe are fascinated of? Both? And so on...

I wonder if there are dreams where one just lies on a recliner absolutely relaxed on a summer day, but I guess not  ;) .

Ever since I've been reading these books and this forum, I can't remember when I had a "normal" dream. LOL

I know what you mean, Supermodel. I've had some weird dreams too, since beginning to pay attention to them as I have in here. I think my psyche has developed on a slightly different path than it was headed beforehand. But I have to admit I seem to be dreaming less about people who have passed lately and more about family members and friends who are still here.

And btw, I caught your comment a few weeks ago about my "refreshing posts" and it was nice to see. Not sure how good they'll be now that I've come off my Manic high from around Christmas though. We'll see, I guess. I always enjoy yours too, especially the posts you made about being an atheist but believing in the afterlife. It really made me reevaluate my own thinking.
