Title: Cross-pollination
Post by blink on Jun 30th, 2008 at 5:13am
I just woke up with this line in my head, and it felt like I was in the middle of a conversation with someone else. This is what "someone" just said to me:

"Cross-pollination is our only hope."

I have no idea what that means. What is cross-pollination? Well, I just looked it up, and it's just when the bee goes from flower to flower? Anyway, I think it's a strange thing for someone to say to me.

Hi blink,

Sounds like you were tuned in to the Greys, or maybe the Department of Agriculture.  :)
It probably wasn't the latter as it is too late to ask bees to do anything since their numbers are dwindling.

Can you compare it to any other early AM remarks you might have heard?

Bets

Mmmmn, no can't say I've ever heard anything similar before. That phrase is now responsible for me viewing this:

A happy little video by the Science Guy.

Okay, I'll keep my ears open. Maybe there will be.....more.

There is.....

http://www.humanflowerproject.com/index.php/weblog/do_plants_have_rights/

DO PLANTS HAVE RIGHTS?

DO PLANTS TALK? DO PLANTS HAVE CONSCIOUSNESS?

quote:

One of us being a palm biologist, we were introduced to such questions by the Venezuelan Palm Society [VPS] and its “Universal Declaration of Plant Rights.”

The society presents nine justifications for such a “plant bill of rights.” Here are just three:

“Due to the immense and alarming disappearance of vegetation in the world, especially in the tropics, where there is a marked abundance of life, we humans, having mental capacity and ability to reason, have to speak up in the defense of all living beings on earth, particularly on behalf of plants, which is at the same time in our own interest.”

“Individuals of the animal kingdom, including humans, live mostly on plants, even if they are not 100% vegetarians.”

“Plants are beings that respond to a variety of stimuli, are capable of perceiving light, and have developed their wonderful harmonious workings in close connection with their environment. These extraordinary beings share the world with us and even share almost one-fifth of their genes with us.”

The VPS ascribes a total 22 rights to plants. They include, but are not limited to, the following:
•      “Plants have a right to live, just as animals do, free of excessive human exploitation, be it the name of science or sport, exhibition or service, nutrition or fashion. The goal ultimately is to avoid the risk of extinction of any species. A healthy vegetation in Nature benefits humans and animals alike.”
•      “Encourage the cultivation of nourishing, medicinal, ornamental and other useful plants of all types and protect them against insects and other animals, preferably in a way that is non-damaging to the environment.”
•      “Intervene by all means possible to help [plant] species in danger of extinction.”
•      “Plants for scientific use may be cultivated in special nurseries or botanical gardens. In modern science, especially genetics, there is an immense quantity of information hidden in plants, that may be studied for the benefit of the plants themselves and for other living beings, including ourselves.”
•      “Avoid cruelty against plants such as inadequate pruning or excessive lopping or any other unwise procedure, which often can cause the death of the plant.”
•      “We have to learn to share our lives with plants in general and particularly with trees that provide us with so many benefits. Historically significant trees should have special protection.”
•      “Empower all movements acting in defense of plants to voice their views and to vote at government level in order that the continued devastation of the planet will not be continued. Furthermore, plants could have the support of an international organization which devotes itself to the rights of the plants, applying the principle of ‘Reverence for Life.’”

I guess I've never looked at it quite like that before.

"Cross pollination", besides the natural science meaning, to me means to get ideas aside from the old ways, to allow new, different, and maybe yet unwanted influences. Mixing.

Hmm... but that's what you're already doing, or? :-)

Nice thought, Spooky! Thanks.

So....what are the chances? An acquaintance occasionally shares with me a "cartoon" clipping from the newspaper. She always has a big smile on her face as she does this.

She walked up to me saying, "I just had to show this to you," and she was laughing.

It was a "B.C." comic strip:

Two fellows are standing conversing. Two flowerpots sit between them, each with a flower inside of it. One fellow says, "Now, I will cross-pollinate these two unique breeds in hopes of creating a nifty new hybrid." They both look at the flowerpots expectantly.....nothing seems to be happening. The other fellow says, "Shouldn't you put on some music or something?"

I remember when I started this thread that I decided, a couple of days, that's usually the amount of time the synchronous activity takes, at the most. There seems to be a slight delay. What I mean is, I set the intention to find the synchronous activity in my "life" that "goes with" this "dream message" and, sure enough, here it is.....put right into my hands. Of course, I asked her for a copy, not saying why. This is my "proof" that the universe is speaking loudly, clearly, with the great and gentle humor that I would hope to find in such a vast intelligence.

Oh, I forgot to mention, this acquaintance has quite a green thumb. One day I wanted to "hack" off a huge branch of an overgrown potted palm in an office and she was horrified at the very idea of doing that. She can bring anything back to life....and help it to flourish. I remember now, at the time of this incident, maybe five or six years ago, I was amazed that she would "care" about the "feelings" of the plant so deeply.

...and maybe you're going to create something nifty new!  :)
