Title: Eckhart Tolle's New Earth Book Post by LaffingRain on May 30th, 2008 at 11:05pm
Hello gang, yes the small print says I can verbose about books on the announcement thread. as I was wondering where to put this ditty.
Review of Eckhart Tolle’s A New Earth Pg 242 midpoint: quote: So who is the experiencer? You are. And who are you? Consciousness. And what is consciousness? This question cannot be answered. The moment you answer it, you have falsified it, made it into another object. Consciousness, the traditional word for which is spirit, cannot be known the normal sense of the word, and seeking it is futile. All knowing is within the realm of duality-subject and object, the knower and the known. The subject, the I, the knower without which nothing could be known, perceived, thought, or felt, must remain forever unknowable. This is because the I has no form. Only forms can be known, and yet without the formless dimension, the world of form could not be. The formless dimension is the luminous space in which the world arises and subsides. That space is the life that I Am. It is timeless, eternal. What happens in that space is relative and temporary: pleasure and pain, gain and loss, birth and death. Alysia’s comment: Next I’ll share some comments about the breath that Tolle tells about, and as I do, I would like all those who read Bruce Moen’s books to consider the parallels to what Tolle is expousing in line with the Guidebook of Bruce’s where he speaks of “3 breaths” so frequently, and how this breathing exercise is helpful to explorers of inner space. This could be said to be a meditation exercise, which can make one aware of the energy body, of life, which resides within each of us, and I wish to add my personal comment that this energy body is the same one that ober’s use, as well the same energy which causes phasing and aids any type of exploration whatsoever, and we will sometimes call it the spirit, or just spirit. What I especially like about breathing and/or meditation which uses the breath for a starting point is that I am including my physical body as ground station number one. This considerably reduces the liklihood of experiencing fear or doubts that you can be a successful explorer, and/or retriever. P.244 Tolle continues: Someone recently showed me the annual prospectus of a large spiritual organization. When I looked through it, I was impressed by the wide choice of interesting seminars and workshops. It reminded me of a smorgasbord, one of those Scandinavian buffets where you can take your pick from a huge variety of enticing dishes. The person asked me whether I could recommend one or two courses. “I don’t know,” I said. “They all look so interesting. But I do know this,” I added. “Be aware of your breathing as often as you are able, whenever you remember. Do that for one year, and it will be more powerfully transformative than attending all of these courses. And it’s free.” Being aware of your breathing takes attention away from thinking and creates space. It is one way of generating consciousness. Althought the fullness of consciousness is already there as the unmanifested, We are here to bring consciousness into this dimension. (alysia comment: Repeat that last sentence slowly to yourself, lol, while breathing. This is precisely in alignment with TMI premise, as well the foundation of many spiritual schools of thought. We are essentially becoming more aware of our spiritual natures through the physical dimension of space, time and consciousness motion. Continuing a bit with Tolle: Being aware of your breath forces you into the present moment-the key to ALL inner transformation. (me: the above is a powerful statement as well) INNER AND OUTER SPACE Your inner body is not solid but spacious. It is not your physical form but the life that animates the physical form. It is the intelligence that created and sustains the body, simultaneously coordinating hundreds of different functions of such extraordinary complexity that the human mind can only understand a tiny fraction of it. When you become aware of it, what is really happening is that the intelligence is becoming aware of itself. (Note: The eye is viewing the eye, God is looking at Himself.) It is the elusive “life” that no scientist has ever found because the consciousness that is looking for it, is IT. Some Alysia reflections. I remember some years ago a similar exercise of becoming aware of this inner life, of the consciousness observing that I was alive. It seemed peculiar, but at different times of the day I’d feel a little shock of awareness to sense I was noticing I was alive. The thought would come, holy cow! I’m here! I’m existing as this person. I’m really here and aware of myself. This realization extended for even a year perhaps, I’m not sure how long, but I seemed to blink on and off with this awareness, and I’m thinking it was with the assistance of guides or CW’s in the area, due to the surprise element involved of feeling the oddest happy sensation of being here, alive, well and accounted for and we might say it is like being awakened from a sleep. This does tend to bring the now moment to prominence, because it is from the now, the future gets made. Yet the irony is the future takes care of itself, as the person becomes accepting of where the now moment is leading, with it’s own intelligence as aligned with higher purpose thoughts. The breathing exercise is also good for grounding oneself into the now moment, for those who need that grounding. I know I have, as I used to have a tendency to float too much between two dimensions. I think that was a phase I had to go through. I highly recommend Mr. Tolle’s books. He has also read ACIM and distilled it’s message much better than I could and he has gone far beyond ACIM to explain consciousness and psychology premises. Hi again, this an addition from yesterday. wanted to share something special that happened for me today regarding hummingbirds. see the little image I added? well this morning when I got up, I thought about this post I made about Tolle, I mean I wanted to share I got a lot from reading the book and a happy feeling as well, because when I read, I read only friends, spirit shows me what to read. so I was thinking about this post above I had made and I wondered if anyone would respond, and if not, then I was thinking, maybe I shouldn't have posted it, yada yada..then I thought about the little bird I put there and how silly yada yada...just then a real humming bird flew right in front of me face!! it went back and forth, stayed in the center for awhile, in front of my face about 2' away, it looked me in the eye! lol! I know spirit was speaking to me, that it's ok I talked about New Earth here, even if only a few people read it, that's ok. now to anyone else this might seem very nice indeed, but no big miracle. well, I have a hummingbird feeder about 15 ft up in the air from where I sit..I watch them come and go, they never come near me, they know exactly where din din is and there is no reason to hover in front of my face unless it's saying thank you...this has never happened to me so it was a real treat. |

Exerpts from Tolle’s New Earth
The more you perceive life through a mental screen of abstraction and conceptualization, the more lifeless and flat the world around you becomes. ___ my notes: The process of moving along in a growth pattern into a new consciousness emerging upon our planet, I hesitate to burden others with the term this would be enlightenment, yet I struggle with language, I now am certain something is upon all humans, something new and fuller and something is pushing us onward, and as for me the older ways of thinking are indeed flat and lifeless for me, but it’s not scary rather exciting to see an emptiness come as immediately a spaciousness descends, what Tolle calls presence expanding, and also referred to as creating a space in each moment for truth to enter, such as has been called “awakening.” A place of centered being. Pg 260 Awakening is a shift in consciousness in which thinking and awareness separate. For most it is a process rather than an event. Another word for it is Presence; consciousness without thought. The initiation of the awakening process is an act of grace. You cannot make it happen nor can you prepare yourself for it or accumulate credits towards it, although the mind would love that. You don’t have to become worthy first. It may come to the sinner before it comes to the saint, but not necessarily. That’s why Jesus associated with all kinds of people, not just the respectable ones. There is nothing you can do about awakening. Whatever you do will be the ego trying to add enlightment to itself as its most prized possession and thereby making itself more important or bigger. Instead of awakening you add the concept of awakening to your mind or the mental image of what an awakened or enlightened person is like and then try to live up to that image. Living up to an image that u have of yourself or that others have of you is inauthentic living. Pg 264 ..Making it in whatever field is only meaningful as long as there are thousands or millions of others who don’t make it, so you need other human beings to “fail” so that your life can have meaning. My Notes: this is an area of our competitive thought systems, where we believe it is necessary to strive for excellence by a system of measurement we contrive ourselves as games and value systems we implement. It can go awry in spiritual development only if gratitude is withheld from those who helped to make the winner what he or she is, for in truth the audience are the wind beneath the wings of the winner, if we are looking at it from the eyes of Love, or from a spiritual perspective. The ego can however look at the audience as deluded and refuse to acknowledge that the appreciation being offered is genuine. Pg 309 On the final page, not to rush this amazing book Tolle asks us “What did Jesus tell his disciples? Heaven is right here in the midst of you.” In the sermon on the mount he says “blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the Earth.” Meek is translated as humble. The meek are the egoless. They are those who have awakened to their essential true nature as consciousness and recognize that essence in all others, all life forms. The live in the surrendered state and so feel their oneness with the whole and the source. Tolle concludes with this inspiring finale A new species is arising on the planet. It is arising now, and you are it! |
