Title: a suggestion regarding topics on the forum Post by blink on Feb 1st, 2008 at 5:25pm
I would just like to note that it is very exciting to find all this energy on the forum in the last couple of days.
Would it be courteous of us to consider allowing some of the other topics on the board to remain a little longer, and create some space for new ones by newbies? I notice here so many topics begun by only a couple of members, causing others to disappear into the "past" very quickly. I don't mention this to criticize anyone because I enjoy reading all of our thoughts here. But, I think it is something to keep in mind, to be fair to all. In addition, it is helpful, I think, to have a little longer to reasonably explore good topics. When they proliferate so quickly, it is a little overwhelming, at least to little 'ole me. love, blink :) |

I agree Blink! Once topics get pushed to the 2nd page they instantly become "old news". I doubt anyone really checks out anything older than the 1st page!
Anyone got any suggestions? |
Title: Re: a suggestion regarding topics on the forum Post by blink on Feb 1st, 2008 at 6:01pm
Yes, it would be good to hear any ideas from anyone here...
Other than creating artificial limits on numbers of topics allowed per day or week, or deliberately moving topics around, I'm not sure what might be suggested, but perhaps other forums run into this kind of situation occasionally. I imagine that we are all capable of noticing what is happening, so perhaps it is just a good idea to have some kind of reminder occasionally, and for each of us to self-monitor ourselves. That's one option. just my thoughts, blink :) |

Personally, I click on Page 2.
Sometimes, when I feel very daring and want a special secret thrill, I click on Page 3. Works for me just fine. Maybe next year I'll get all hot and bothered and go as far as Page 4, assuming that my nerves can stand it. There are forums that offer a catalog of topics to which ne can refer, but the catalog takes up so darn much space that it limits space for anything else. Of course if the catalog were in the margins, where we usually have ads for Viagra and Crazy Glue (honi soit qui mal y pense!), and in smaller type to give topic headings only, it might be useful. Still, there's not much to be gained over clicking on Page 3 (Whew! - the very idea almost makes my hair stand on end). dave |

:) This is just another view, but I think it would be quite good if we could low it down a little all right. It seems to me that he really insightful threads seem to arise when we all have time to reflect and for intuition and insight to develop.
One way might be for the regulars to observe some sort of queue - agree a very approximate target max number of live threads at a given time.... Happy to go with the flow though..... |

I often begin at page 92 and work backwards. I enjoy digging up B-man's ancient threads and annoying him by commenting on them as if he posted them yesterday. Such mind games used to keep him more interested in the site, if only to attack some of my threads. Of course, I hope (in vain) that no one else will notice this dredge operation. In the good old days, I could reply to old threads and then erase my post. That way, the thread would just appear like a ghost with no updated posts! This inspired profound new threads on poltergeists, etc. Ah, for the good old days when inferior technology made the site more fun!
Don ;D |

Don, I have an old computer that I'd be very happy to sell - Such a deal! You can have all the inferior technology desired. Or perhaps little bit less than that, if you want the machine to light up.
Page 92? - Too rich for my blood! :-) dave |

Blink:
If you mean Nanner and Alan, there wouldn't be much activity if they didn't post. I for one, don't want them to feel uncomfortable about having a lot to share. Bless them, for taking the time. If an older post is interesting, somebody could simply bring it up again and write "Bump." |
Title: Re: a suggestion regarding topics on the forum Post by Lucy on Feb 1st, 2008 at 8:53pm
Thanks for the post, Blink.
I too like the times that topics stay up and people have time to mull over the answers. It is difficult for those of us who have been here a while to get excited about something that has been posted on in the past, but I guess it is inevitable that that happen. I wish there were a way I could flag the topics I want to return to when I am logged in so I could find them more easily when I return, just as I flag messages in my email inbox. Am I missing something? Is there already a way to do this? |
Title: Re: a suggestion regarding topics on the forum Post by Lucy on Feb 1st, 2008 at 9:13pm
OK here's what I figured out so far.
If you are logged in, if you are on the page for a topic (not the index page) there is at the top list of buttons, a button called Add to Favorites And if you click on that button, a gold star is added next to the topic title. So I guess the flag here is a gold star. Also, at the top under the Date and Time line, there are buttons to go to different places on the site. And one of these buttons is My Favorites And if you choose that, the board will give you an index of your favorites. Now why did it take me several years to figure that out!!! |
Title: Re: a suggestion regarding topics on the forum Post by Lucy on Feb 1st, 2008 at 11:56pm
I just realized I'm going to have to follow Don's lead and start at page 92 so I can mark all my old favorites....

Hi,
I am perplexed as to why so many threads are read but not responded to. Why are so many members inactive? Some stats would be interesting! Lucy,s suggestion is good. alan |
Title: Re: a suggestion regarding topics on the forum Post by blink on Feb 2nd, 2008 at 3:06am
Thanks for all your replies, guys, and thanks, Lucy, for the tips on favorites.
Maybe I will go back to page 92 also...just for laughs! There are certainly some interesting times there. Do you think that in the afterlife I will view them all at once, in one giant mind-feed? Something to contemplate: all of you in my brain, simultaneously, in the next life.... Where do I run, where do I hide? love, blink :) |
Title: Re: a suggestion regarding topics on the forum Post by Rondele on Feb 2nd, 2008 at 10:07am
A couple suggestions-
Instead of a person posting a flurry of posts within a short time of each other, combine some of them esp when they contain similar thoughts. Also, posts that are political in nature should be placed in Off Topic forum, if not by the poster then by the moderator. Finally, just use a little bit of courtesy (and common sense) by recognizing that when a poster essentially takes over the forum, he or she ends up pushing other posts off the page and consequently, most of the time, into oblivion. |

Greetings,
I don't have anything to add, as I agree that some self-imposed limits will help if adhered to. I'm just posting this to keep the topic near the top. :D ::) Bets |
Title: Re: a suggestion regarding topics on the forum Post by Nanner on Feb 2nd, 2008 at 11:02am
Hmmm :-/ Yes, there was quite a bit of energy on the board yesterday : 24 Topics running simutaniously. LOL.. Wow - sort of like a watching the NASDAQ Markets going up and down. Sort of as if we were provider of sales, trading, structuring and advisory services all at once..
I`m the meany and posted alot of independant thoughts yesterday. As one can see "that was yesterday". ;) I do want to humbly apologise for that to. Hope you all keep the energy running like that, for theres nothing worse on a conversation board, as when no conversation takes place, then it becomes mere flat based reading and this can be done without coming to the board to converse. Hugs and love to all of you, Nanner |
Title: Re: a suggestion regarding topics on the forum Post by betson on Feb 2nd, 2008 at 11:18am
Hi Alan,
I've thought the ratio of poster to readers is interesting also. To some extent it's always been that way. Since membership keeps growing, I think it's just a natural aspect of things, that some are happy to come to read only. The current concern is slightly different though, that so many new posts come up daily, that there's only time to answer 'off the top of our heads.' A few fewer posts would be a blessing and allow more think time to respond. :) Bets |
Title: Re: a suggestion regarding topics on the forum Post by vajra on Feb 2nd, 2008 at 3:03pm
;) I guess there's quite a difference between the sort of surface, intellectual and reactive 'chatter' we get into when we move too fast versus the much deeper, more creative and intuitive insight that surfaces given time for the pot to boil.
It's symbolic of the spiritual path too - get too reactive or sucked into our heads and we don't get the insight that's needed if we are to open... PS on the other hand we don't have to retreat into not posting for fear of causing a problem. Feel it = post it I'd say... |
Title: Re: a suggestion regarding topics on the forum Post by Berserk2 on Feb 2nd, 2008 at 4:42pm
Nanner,
I used to be a 5-star "Super Member." But then I relocated from the east coast in New York to the west coast in Washington state. So I had to re-register as "Berserk2" and humble myself with my newbie status. I am now a lowly 3-star "Full Member." Currently, you are a 4-star "Senior Member." Soon you too will be a "Super Member." That exalted status comes with perks. You get to start as many threads as you want and to dispense with wimpy qualifying phrases like "in my opinion." When you become a "Super Member," your views rule and can be stated authoritatively. As for me, I must be necessarily modest in my posts for a while--until one day, I regain my "Super Member" status. Title: Re: a suggestion regarding topics on the forum Post by Rondele on Feb 2nd, 2008 at 5:29pm
Well, I started posting on this board shortly after it was started, but now look at me. Just a peon with 3 stars because I also had to re-register after the website crashed a couple years ago.
Is there anything I can do to regain my lost 2 stars? Or least get frequent flier miles as compensation? Hey maybe there's a way I can "retrieve" them! I think I'll review my notes from Bruce's workshop I attended...... R |
Title: Re: a suggestion regarding topics on the forum Post by Alan McDougall on Feb 3rd, 2008 at 3:21am
Come on guys, if there is no response to a new topic the forum simply does not resonate with it and it dies a natural death on page two.

Title: Re: a suggestion regarding topics on the forum Post by DocM on Feb 7th, 2008 at 9:11pm
I'm sorry my friends. There are too many threads, and so many posted in a given day that deeply developed threads don't seem to be happening. A fair number of threads are off topic to the afterlife but not put in that "off topic" section. Due to all of this, it has been difficult for many here to follow the board.
I am happy and moved by the new guard posting, and am supportive of you, but I think we need to have certain threads that develop over time in order to really get everyone into this, not just two or three people. Just my two cent - take it or leave it. Matthew |
Title: Re: a suggestion regarding topics on the forum Post by Rondele on Feb 10th, 2008 at 3:01pm
Doc-
I'm responding mainly to get your post and this thread back on page 1. Once again, can we ask that people try to either consolidate their many posts into just a few, or at least wait a few days before putting so many posts on the page? Doc makes a good point, there are many posts that really belong Off Topic. It's nice that there is enthusiasm, but at the same time it needs to be tempered by realizing that once someone's post goes off the front page, it's more or less history. And that's a shame because many good posts have become lost over the past few weeks. R |

OH...what the heck, let's get drawn in to this for a few minutes.. :-/
Feel like were're chassing "Stars" here and status. Just saw a shooting star; let make a wish.. ;D Let's see 2002 (8yrs)-295 posts, geezzz and still a beginner, and happy to be. And already forgot if i'm a regular or part time/full/senior/advance etc. Doesn't matter really; it's what you say/said/think/feels that counts, and able to share freely without being critizized. Somewhere on the first or second page..someone make a comment on a: beginner place/forum type topic" it a great idea, maybe we should. with link to archives/Bruce lectures, experiences etc, which we do have on top of the main page and hopefully do a lot of reading/asking question in Beginner/Safe place/ forum. Specific to Beginners and don't worry about the label here..we are all beginners. Or internet informations link index should be move to OFF TOPIC, so we can have/replace with a Beginner place/forum type. But this is Bruce forum and his choice as always; how he wants it to operate.
