Title: No notices when thread is active
Post by betson on Dec 3rd, 2007 at 1:47pm
Hi Allan,

I no longer get e-mail notices that my favorite threads are active.
Is this service something youall pay for?  If it's  a service turned off
while maintentance is going on, that's understandable. I just wonder
if I should rely on it or forget about it.   :)

Happy Holiday Season!

Bets

Betson,

I tested it and it worked for me.  It may be something to do with your e-mail provider's setup.  I can try to send you a test message from the board and see if I get a rejection letter.  Will let you know what I find.

same here Bets..no more notices but I was getting them for a long time. the thing is I notice we both are on a mac...that may have something to do with it, and check your bulk folder once in awhile, I found a thread notice in mine.

Hi,

I got two (dated 2 days apart) shortly after you posted, Allan, but nothing since.
:D  I'm OK with blaming it on the mac.

I have found two issues.  One, your e-mail provider may have marked this domain as a "Spammer", which means, it is added to the main spam blocker, even before it gets to your mailbox.  This problem can explain permanent non-deliveries.  If you are getting these in your spam folder periodically, or not even getting them at all, they may be part of your e-mail provider's spam protection rules.

What can you do about this?  First, check your "Bulk/Spam" folder for the e-mail message.  If you see it there, add this address to your permanent "Whitelist" or "Allow List".  Please be careful not to mark anything from afterlife-knowledge.com as "Spam/Bulk/Unsolicited".  If you have a "Whitelist", or "Allow List" of some sort, please add the afterlife-knowledge.com address to it.  Finally, you can open the issue up with your e-mail provider's Support department.

Another issue I discovered is something to do with our webhost provider.  They have anti-spam safeguards in place that stops sending mail from any one domain if it exceeds 300 mails per hour.  I am guessing that this could happen when a lot of users are watching a busy thread and getting notifications when a new post has been made.  I'm checking into that issue with our webhost to see if there is something that can be done there.  This problem can explain the intermittent non-deliveries you may be experiencing.

I think Allan's right, its not that its a mac, its the server security thing.

weird, the other day I got a thread response from 2 weeks previous that I already had seen. thanks Allen, we'll deal with it.
