That website for Aptera, the new vehicle concept that hopes to get 330 mpg (but can only :) get 220 so far) got me wondering about resistance to the 'status quo'---

Do you think that new inventions face some sort of metaphysical resistance because the web of reality hasn't made room for them yet?  If so, is this the same resistance that miracles and alchemy meet?  
( ;)  If so, would it be a good idea to connect any new idea to a religion so that the exisiting common beliefs could accept it more? For example, any new car concept could be presented as a pope-mobile, hahahah, and then  alot of people would want one like the pope's...?)

Then we could have "Pope Tarts" and "Pope Sickles"  and of course many new Pope-ular songs. Or beer in Pope-Top cans. ;-)

:) Only a personal view Bets but it seems to me that most of the resistance to new ideas has like most of the ills of the world its origins in ego. (fear of loss of as a result of changes in the status quo brought about  by new innovations)

To about the same degree that the pushing of new technologies and innovations is driven by the possibility of selfish egotistical gain rather than the urge to do good by others.

Both boil down to egotistical grasping, and can play out in an unimaginable number of ways.

There's proposals reported in the media at the moment for lunatic schemes like seeding the seas with chemicals to change their thermal/carbon handling characteristics to offset climate change (can't remember the details), but it's for this reason that these sorts of Dr. Starngelovian type schemes give me the horrors. Here's hoping they have no likelihood of coming to fruition.....

Hi Bets- Actually, after I got over being flip and making dumb remarks (things that just pop-ed into my mind) it occurred to me that what you said has a lot of merit. The problem is that the examples to which we respond seem to be those which are convenient, as opposed to useful. I think of the putative honesty of politicians who swear that their character is beyond question, yet who involve in deception, and often much worse. The message isn't wasted on us - we learn that it is more important to win and dominate than to cooperate and prosper.

While I'm not too interested in driving a Pope-mobile, I would like to see an emulation of the relatively conservative respect for truth and decency of some of our modern religious leaders. It's a pity that an upstanding moral character often seems to be antithetical to a career in the public eye.

Turning this back to your basic thread, the question is how we might influence our world so that a model of behavior or character etc might be brought to the public eye.

Although we urge our souls onward towards God,
