Title: Comments on Abraham-Hicks workshop I attended
Post by Lucy on Sep 30th, 2007 at 9:57pm
Last Saturday I had an opportunity to attend a workshop given by Esther and Gerry Hicks ...and Abraham.

Here are my comments.

I had no idea what to expect. I should have guessed from the fact of where it was held that the attendance would be large..someone said 500 people. I'm not good at estimating crowds but that doesn't seem really wrong. So there were lots of people. An a staff to help check you in. And a large table of books, CDs, DVDs, whatever. And a couple of people to take money to pay for those. It seems a little commercial but then I think people ask for (demand!) all those books and tapes and cruises. Hey it beats watching tv.

The room where the talking was held seemed like half a ballroom size. The chairs faced one wall. Two screens were set up. There was a place for the speaker and a table up front and mikes. The workshop was sold out so most of the chairs were taken when Esther and Gerry enetered and sat at the table. Gerry spoke first.

He seems very comfortable in front of a crowd and in his brief talk he was humorous as well as informative. The usual yada yada how many first timers and a little of the history, a mention of "The Secret" and the books and recordings and so forth. Then it was Esther's turn.

I would have liked to hear from Esther a little , but she walked up and said: "Hello. Good-bye." and went into her trance thing.

So Abraham talked. This ws the "lecture" portion of the workshop.

So what I think of Abraham's talking (and books and recordings is this):

"Wit is wisdom to the best advantage dressed
What oft was thought but ne'er so well expressed." (I forget who said that).

Well if you've read many metaphysical books, you've heard what Abraham has to say, but this is from a fresh perspective applied to now and pulls together things in a unique way with a clear message. So it is worth listening to.

Create what you want to be in your life by engaging in the constant process of focusing on what you want.

Of course, that takes a bit of explaining. You can take a lifetime to figure out how to do that. So all the discussion around all the aspects of that are instructive.

So that went on for 70+ minutes, had a break, and then we had a Q&A session, and then we had lunch, and then another Q&A session, another break, and another Q&A session, and then home. So it started at 9 and was over by 4-ish. Q&A involved one person coming to a chair at the front and then asking a question, and Abraham engaging in a discussion with that person over the question. So not that many people asked questions. I forgot how many (I got drowsy after lunch). 7? 8? 9? (I see why people buy the tapes. It is hard to recall everything).

Do I think trances are real? I don't know. It was interesting and there does seem to be wisdom there. The answers did not involve giving people specific answers to their questions/problems but in engaging them in a dialogue to get them to say positive things about what they wanted from the situation they were asking about.

OK so what was discussed. I took some notes but I can see that this is where watching a tape would be interesting because sometimes the most important part of the answer wasn't the words but the way the answer evolved, which is something I find difficult to put into words. In Abraham's view, it seems that the most important thing one can do to get what one wants is to phrase what one wants verbally and then focus all one's vitality and joy on that...that doesn't sound quite right. But you take your problem and keep talking about it until you can say what positive thing you want and then focus on it positively..with the exuberance a child expresses...remember what it felt like to be a kid and be full of exuberance and joy and vitality?

Hey what have you got to lose? At least you can feel good.

I'll check my notes and post some more

OK so the message is that we create our reality but we don't seem to know how we are doing that. That is because we have forgotten what we are. We have forgotten we have a nonphysical component.

So we have forgotten how to have a good alignment with our nonphysical portion, which is what is needed if we want to create what we want. It is easy to tell when we are or are not in alignment.  When you feel good happy joyful exuberant, you are in alignment.  When you feel like garbage (my words) you are not in alignment. To create what you want, move to a state of joy and visualize what you want.

The trick to this is moving from crap to joy. That can be challenging when you are in a bad place. For instance, when you are in physical pain, it might be challenging to bring up feelings of joy. Do it in increments. Phrase what you want in some positive terms.

Abraham used tone of voice to gauge how well people asking the questions were doing on that. If they didn't sound exuberant in their postive phrasing of what they wanted, Abraham kept at them until they did better.  Abraham was quite clear about this being a continuous process. Its not a point to debate(do we reincarnate? how did the universe begin? What was there at the beginning of thought? whatever question you want...). It is a process to work at.Creating. Being on the edge of conciousness.

Not that more specific answers didn't come up. One person came to the mic and told that about a year after he was born, for whatever reason, one of his eyes was removed by the docs. He had overcome the bad feelings about that that he had had in earlier years, but he still wondered, why? If we create our reality, what did he do as a newborn that would lead to that? And Abraham asked, why do you want to know? What would it change for you to know? Does that have anything to do with what you ar creating now? So after the man acknowledged that it didn't affect what he created now, then Abraham went on to discuss that we chose to be born from a very different perspective than the one we have here in the physical. From the other side, we are in touch with our reservoir of energy we have and we do not feel the lack that we feel here. We choose conditions that we think will put us on the creative edge of conciousness. Then we come here and forget that we are part of something larger. But we cannot say, (and this came up more than once) that we would not chose to be reborn here because we here do not understand the place we are in when we decide to be born. We come here and we lose our alignment with our deeper/higher selves. But we chose conditions here before we came because we saw that they would cause us to expand. I thought it was important to mention this because people here (me included) sometimes say we would not chose to reincarnate here. And it seems important to understand that there may be another view to that issue.

So the key to creating what you want is to being aligned to your higher self, and the way to be aligned is to be in a state of joy. You want to focus on an expanding state of energy.

Writing from my notes is more difficult than I thought; some of the analogies that were used don't sound clear when I try to write them. I hope this gives a sense of what the workshop was like. I liked the initmacy of Bruce's workshop better but this was interesting and I'm glad I went.

What was also entertaining for me was getting to talk to people at lunch. I went alone and I don't know alot of people who share my crazy interest so it was important to me to talk to others a little. The woman who sat to my left raises water soaniels but she also does reiki and is a reiki master and she studied with Lourdes and John Harvey Gray. John Harvey is 90 now and still going at life. She said Oscar the dog has now gone on...Oscar was the subject for a reiki class for kids. The kids got to practice on Oscar. That was one happy dog. Now there is a new dog. I think that was the dog she was talking about when she said a dog had hip dysplsia and they could feel it when they did reiki on the dog. Then she told some reiki success stories. Then she talked about an experience she had in meditation. She started to have kundalini type experiences with energy moving up her spine. I think it was LOurdes who got her to change her meditation to some kind of hemi-sync meditation. I know John Harvey knew Robert Monroe and taught some hemi-sync based stuff, maybe still does. So the hemi-sync based meditation helped the woman.

The couple on my right had mutual friends with the woman on my left but they didn't know each other prior to this meeting. The man teaches meditation ..a particular kind...I forget what... but he was talking about a kind of Chamber of Commerce group he was involved in that is for holistic practitioners and businesses and related businesses. He said there is a chapter on the Cape (Massachusetts) and talked about new ones people were starting. If anyone is intersted in learning more about that, contact me and I'll see if I can get you in contact with the guy.
