Well, sisters..some would define it as anyone who does not follow straightline Christianity in their spirituality..

Someone who is "new age", would be like those of us here who explore the afterlife and speak to those crossed over, and spirits other than God/Jesus.

Its an all-encompassing term, really..one person who is "new age" may be far removed from another falling within the same category..

Here's a definition:

New Age

ADJECTIVE:

Of or relating to a complex of spiritual and consciousness-raising movements originating in the 1980s and covering a range of themes from a belief in spiritualism and reincarnation to advocacy of holistic approaches to health and ecology.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_age gives a fairly detailed discription, open to personal interpretation.

"New Age cronies:"
Webster: "those trapped in a Ghetto mindset that prevents them from exploring radically different perspectives and from checking their silly claims against the findings of acknowledged experts in the disciplines relevant to their claims.
When threatened by alternate views, they huddle together and sycophantically affirm each ofher's views as if that makes them right and create gross caricatures of their intellectual adversaries (just as you see here).  In short, "New Age chronies" are not the sharpest knives in the drawer, but they still stab at their opponents with degrading ad hominems, little realizing that their dull blades can make no dent.

Before you cast the first or second stone with an inference about the intellectual capacity of a new age "chronie," dear Don, you should really check your spelling of the word "cronies."

Your Life Was Never Meant to be a Struggle.

The timing of "Your Life Was Never Meant to be a Struggle" is not by chance, and it is not by chance you are reading this now. There is no such thing as luck or chance--all events have purpose. The book is relevant and so is its contents and the message it holds. All strangers come bearing gifts, but not all gifts are received. One must first be open to receiving it--it's always a choice. This is nothing more than an opportunity for you. The message will reach the people it is intended for--not everyone will receive it because the message is directed to those who are ready to move to the next step. Spiritual enlightenment comes only to those who are ready to be enlightenment--others would not understand. Power is not given to those who are not ready to be empowered--power destroys an immature mind.If you believe your life has been or is a struggle, then you owe it to yourself to do something to change it. You can have all that you desire and more--the change is guaranteed. They only thing getting in the way of what you want is your own thoughts. You can learn to control your thoughts away from the destructive forces which have kept you away from what you have always wanted. Learn how to break away from those around you who would have you remain as you are, not for your benefit, but for their own. Why is it those who seem less deserving than you, get all the breaks--what is it they know that you do not--you will be surprised at the answer. It is within your power to change the circumstances of your life, because it is you who are creating them. The power is you, there is nowhere you have to look to find it.

It has alittle bit of The Secret in it..

I think its called 'New Age' because that is the age that we are moving into, 'The Age of Aquarius' and we are in the process of a consciousness shift an end of the way we are doing things now and moving into a new spiritual era. People commonly use the date 2012 which is the end of the Mayan Calendar. Of course many on this site know this but for some reason this wasn't mentioned in the description of what is new age. Its clear to me that if you call yourself a new ager you must be aware of 2012 prophecy and the research and study that compliments the prophecies.

I am reading a book called '2012' by Daniel Pinchbeck, very good book. If you can get your hands on it You should read it with an open and attentive mind. The author explores the mayan prophecy through a study of both spiritual and scientific explanation with what he claims will lead to the shifting of human consciousness.

*****************
What can I say Don? Except that sho 'nuff, the PRIESTS, PREACHERS, and CHURCHMEN of traditional Christianity, are the TRUE FOUNTS of Wisdom herself - both worldly and metaphysical!
What GLORIOUS WISDOM churchmen have shown! Like the time that pious gaggle of wise, wise monks flayed the mathematician Hyapatia with abalone shells back in 415 A.D., thus ending the last of pagan thought in the city of Alexandria. (She was a "New Age Ghetto" type, being a Neo-Platonist and all that.)
Or how about a decade or two before that, those wise, wise bishops incited the monk hordes to swarm in from the desert, and burn what remained of the Library of Alexandria. What an achievement! I'll bet you wish YOU could've been there, Don! But it's not too late you know... our modern-day religious zealots might be able to destroy the INTERNET as a free information exchange medium, and thus protect the purity of our children's minds! (Another dream of yours, Don? After all, without the Internet, a lot fewer people would know about alternatives to preachers, priests, and churches...)
We could have the MIDDLE AGES AGAIN!!! (I'll bet that makes your little hamster-jimmy get stiff, just thinking about it - eh, Don old boy..?)

Hey Don,

I like that New Age Chronies spelling !  It relates to chronometers, uniting the dimensions of time and distance (space) !  Excellent! Perhaps it is time for a new age!
Thanks for helping form the New Age vcabulary!  :D
