Title: we choose our life before birth and our death Post by juditha on Feb 22nd, 2007 at 2:32pm
Hi I learned at the spiritualist church that we do choose our life and our death before birth and at birth our memory is erased,so i told this anglican preist this today and he said he did not agree in anyway. He said that we cannot do this as we shape our lives as we go along, but i know thats not true.
We do choose our death, and what age we die,our life is already mapped out for us,all we do is fullfill everything and then its back home to the spirit world,i respect the fact that this preist has a right to his opinion, but hes missing out on the real fact of why we are here in the first place. Then he said it was the time of lent, were people go without certain things to get closer to God but also added that its a load of crap, which i agreed with as we dont have to starve or do anything to get closer to God because he loves us anyway. ::) He said there are people that say silly things about spirits leaving the body and he said the spirit of god is in a flower and everywhere so i think he has some of it right. Love and God bless Love juditha |

I'm not sure we choose our lives, Juditha, or our deaths. But I respect your point of view. I think we may come here with certain challenges which are important to attempt to overcome. For me, my greatest challenges have been to develop personal discipline, honesty, and a valid internal compass based on true self worth. In other words, I have often just been a dandelion blown around by the wind....any wind that blew.
Actually, I'm grateful for the journey. It's taught me a lot, and continues to do so. I agree with you that God doesn't need us to observe particular rituals. God is everywhere in everything. But some people need rituals...they need structure. But not forever. Once the lesson is internalized, do we really need the outward appearances anymore? I love the faith you have, the strength you have, so Keep On Searching. love, blink |

It doesn't surprise me that the priest disagreed. Choice and free will are important concepts to many christians (and non christians). The idea that everything is mapped out raises the idea of predestination, a concept I have trouble with as well. I understand that one of the reasons for giving things up for Lent is to let us give up some of our physical attachments so that we might focus a bit more on the spiritual. That's not altogether a bad idea, unless we're talking about chocolate. -- Rob

I think that there IS a predetermined destiny for us all. But free will plays a role as well. It's like traveling down a road trying to get to a destination. Sometimes we feel the urge to take a different route (free will) but ultimately reach our goal(destiny).
But that's just me. |
