Title: Do people feel pain in the afterlife?
Post by Da_Bears_1_fan on Feb 20th, 2007 at 2:09pm
So, say you've got people who believe they are going to a fire and brimstone hell when they die... Do they actually feel that they are burning?? Or is it more like holy shit this is crazy and scary.. Like are they screaming because they feel the sensation of pain in like in a dream state where you sense the pain but it's not really like the pain you feel in real life?

Because in my dreams when I have pain like of fire burning me it doesn't feel that bad! Like I still feel the pain, but definately not like I would in real life!

If, they really feel pain in the afterlife of burning alive that makes me sad and sick to my stomach!!
:(

Hi DBF-

Most people report that at the moment of death all pain vanishes. As one example, my Dad (1978) told me, "Tell your Mother that I feel better than I ever felt in my life. Pun intended." - I did as requested and was promptly labeled as being bonkers.

However, reports from suicides often involve being alone as they wander through a lonely space. Others who have done things that they recognize as hurtful to their companions often put themselves into whatever place they feel is appropriate for themselves. The purpose is not to suffer, but to repair their attitudes in such a way that they will not repeat their prior actions. Were very hard on ourselves. The tendency to be reborn into a world in which we suffer is far more potent, and seems to arise from the same desire to prevent ourselves from making further errors.

For the lower astral and stuck souls, the afterlife is simply a phase between mundane lives. For those who are more developed the core motivation for this is the reocgnition of God's inifinite love and compassion, in the face of which many people feel really terrible about what they have done. Thus, to answer directly, there seems to be no pain imposed, but many people seem to seek pain, and by clinging to their past errors, they often reincarnate into added pain.

It depends.

In the afterlife, are we using our subconscious mind? Is death a dream/lucid dream? Do we roam the earth as lucid/transparent ghosts?

I'd think if we aren't using our subconscious mind, than our conscious Spirit bodies would maybe still feel pain somehow, maybe mental pain.

The answer to the question will differ depending upon the spirtual path and beliefs of the person answering the question. I belief that the only pain a soul feels in the afterlife is pain generated (created) by the soul itself. Otherwise, pain is left behind. Also, please understand that we are defining pain here in a different type of reality than that of the soul. People caught in belief systems may "re-live" pain without realizing it.

As to the subconcious, etc... mentioned by EliteNY: In actuality, the subconcious is the connecting tissue, so to speak, for the unconscious. It creates the doorway between one dimensional reality and another. Upon passing, the subconscious is no longer needed and the "unconscious" becomes the only conscious necessary. If, following the particular form expressed by the post, I would suggest that the subconscious would become the conscious and the unconscious would then become the subconscious.

Again, spiritual philosphies will differ in this area.

Very good EE.  I agree with your thoughts on the conscious/subconscious/unconscious.  When we die, I believe a merging occurs with the conscious and unconscious aspects of our minds which was previously blocked off due to conditions preset for a physical life.  I believe our unconscious minds have a strong link with the source.  I believe this is why so many people having NDEs experience a sensation of "knowing everything" and being one with god and all that exists.  The conscious and unconscious aspects of their minds integrate upon physical death, or shortly afterwards, and their link to the source is realized.
