Title: Of Abrahamic religion, and loaded guns... Post by Chumley on Jan 28th, 2007 at 9:25pm
Anyone who is a hunter or gun owner around here, needn't be
reminded of the necessity of safe storage of weapons and ammunition, and the safe handling of such items. And it is very important to keep children, ignoramuses, and mental incompetents away from them as well. Common sense, right? Maybe not... Don, DocM, and a few others on this site have repeatedly enjoined us not to blast organized Abrahamic religions (e.g. Christianity, Islam, and the nuttier flavors of Judaism); they say that you can't judge the religions, on the basis of the words and deeds of certain of their followers. Well, I say otherwise, folks. The Bible (Old and New Testaments) as well as the Koran (I've nicely covered all three of the Abrahamics here) are PACKED TO THE GUNWALES with savagery, violence, blood-letting, slavery, stonings, murders, ect. under the all-seeing tutelage of a frankly TRIGGER-HAPPY, unstable narcissistic deity. And then in Christian, Muslim, and (Orthodox) Jewish cultures, we instruct CHILDREN in these creeds. (Sort of like giving loaded pistols to the kids and nutcases..?) Richard Dawkins, shortly after 9/11, had something to say about that. He said that to litter the streets with religions... PARTICULARLY of the Abrahamic kind... was like littering the streets with loaded firearms. DON'T be surprised if they get used, and blood gets spilled. The moral? We keep firearms under lock and key if we are responsible, and don't allow children, ignoramuses, and mental incompetents anywhere near them - right??? But we DON'T do this with Abrahamic religions! Instead, we dole them out hand over fist to children, ignoramuses, and mental incompetents... And then we scratch our heads and wonder when the banging and blood-letting start. World War 1; The Thirty Years War; the Spanish genocides of Native Americans... millions killed, maimed, tortured in the name of Jesus... Allah... Yahweh... (But have you ever heard of the Hindus, Buddhists, or Taoists waging a religious war? Gee, I wonder what's up here.) Get the picture..? B-man |

People, collectively as well as individually, are constantly offered a choice in life's decisions. These decisions may be everyday little ones, like what to post on a message board, or they may be huge like a war. The choice spiritually boils down to Love or fear. The Abrahamic religions teach both.
Your post focuses on fear. Is that often your choice? Love, Rob |

Hi Chumley They did not do it in the name of Jesus, they did it in the name of man.
Man creates his own destruction and also creates destruction,it is not down to God or his beloved son Jesus Love and God bless Love Juditha |

Actually, most of the killing done by early Christians and those such as the Knights of Templar was done in the name of God. Jesus.

So if I spin something you say or believe to justify mass murder, and do it in the name of outofbodydude, does that reflect on you? Am I really doing it because of you, or am I using your name to justify MY murderous acts and intentions? Even if I were to believe you are a mass murderer yourself, would I still be justified? Or am I just a psychopath in a position to act upon my tendencies, rationalizing murder in your name?

Rob ***************** The short answer: YES!!! (To your first question.) If I stir up the rabble with barbaric statements, and they go on a rampage, I AM CULPABLE. (To say otherwise, would get Hitler off the hook, right? all he did was yell and make noise; his Gestapo bullyboys did the rest..!) The fact is, if you write or say something inflammatory and vitriolic (like much of the Bible, for instance) and pitch it to the the rabble, you have a part in whatever mayhem that ensues. (But hey, don't take my word for it... ask any judge, or lawyer!) B-man |

Hi Chumley and OOBD You both feel like this about God,its your own thoughts and God didnt put them thoughts there you both did. ::)
God is not to blame,we answer for our own actions thats why God gave you both freewill. This happened to me a few months ago. I was visited by St Theresa and Jesus last night Aug 7th, 2006, 4:31am Hi I said my prayer last night,to our father God and then recived a message. I layed down, but i could not sleep,as my mind was feeling fearful and uptight, not because of the message i received,i had been feeling like this all day,as i layed there,St Theresa stood there looking over me,she is a beautiful catholic nun,who is my guide. She told me,she is always there for me,and loves me,and she will always be there to guide me,and then she layed a rosiery on my arm,and kissed my cheek,as she did this Jesus appeared to me. He layed a silver cross upon my head, and i and Jesus said the lords prayer together, and then he placed his hand upon my head, and said i love you,be at peace, and i told Jesus i loved him to,and he said i know, sleep now,St Theresa stood next to him and i went to sleep. Love and God bless Love Juditha |

I am not speaking of opinion, I am speaking of fact. It is a fact that thousands upon thousands of people have been killed in the name of the Christian God. This does not mean that this god ordered this to happen, for it was the followers' choice to do this(not to mention the Christian's version of god does not even exist). I am not speaking of beliefs, I am speaking of historical facts, and only those in denial will disagree. |

Hi OOBD I read what you said about wars being fought in the name of our god, and this is whats wrong with the world ,every disaster or anything going wrong in the world God seems to get the blame but man creates his own destruction.
Love and God bless Love Juditha |

Juditha.
The fact is that wars HAVE been fought in the name of your god. People HAVE been killed in the name of your god. However, that does not mean your god is to blame. A jealous ex-girlfriend could kill my current girlfriend in my name. But does this make me guilty for the murder? Absolutely not. The same goes for the situation at hand. Just because terrible things have been done in the Christian god's name does not make him responsible for these acts, the only ones responsible are the ignoramouses who did the killing. This is like saying frogs are to blame for me murdering my mother because I committed the act in the name of Frog. This is not logical. Keeping this logic in mind, I am not saying your god is to blame. (How could somthing that does not exist be blamed for anything, anyway??) |
