Well, I found out just a few minutes ago from Skip. Laurie has lung cancer.

As you know, several months ago, Laurie fell and broke her left shoulder, then got pneumonia. When x-rays were taken it was found that her left lung had become detached from the wall of the chest cavity, perhaps as a result of so much coughing over a long period of time. On Monday she was operated on, but both the lung and the chest wall were covered with tumors, leaving too little healthy tissue to attach the lung to. What is worse, those tumors are cancerous. Removal of the lung is not an option because the trauma would be too severe in her weakened condition. Given her situation, without the use of both lungs, vulnerable to infection and still suffering from pneumonia, she remains in the hospital in Charlottesville.

Laurie specifically asked that the staff not be informed of the gravity of her situation until today, so that this week’s residential program would not be disrupted. Staff, Board of Directors, Board of Advisors and affiliated New Landers have been notified, and Skip is finalizing a note that will go to the various computer lists like VML, etc. I told him I’d pass it on to you, Dirk, and ask you to be sure it gets to all the lists. I can put it on TMIExplorers if you wish, but there are so many others, including VML, F10Plus, Heartliners, and others that I don’t even know the names of.

Quite a shock, eh?

All my prayers and thoughts of comfort for Laurie.

May Christ be with Laurie and her family at this time and may her dear father Robert be comforted with the knowing she is nearly home.  May Laurie take comfort in knowing her father Robert is with her.

It is the most glorious occassion to enter heaven, do not be afraid, you have done it many many times.  It is as if you are sleeping and your body slips out - free from all the troubles and worries of this world.  

No-one ever says goodbye forever; we meet again in Eternal Life.  

Ye Christ, may you send your Angels to Laurie and may you hold Lauries hand in these moments before she ascends to heaven in peace and with Joy.

My prayer for her is one of healing.  If healing can be in the physical, so be it.  If it is to be spiritual, then that will occur.  Healing energy simply is, it knows no bounds.

thanks Mair for telling us. I know Bob Monroe is standing by for her. I can sense the deep love there. we never know when we will go. not usually. any family member of Monroe's is a friend of mine too.

Update on Laurie:

Just talked to Skip, who saw Laurie at UVA hospital this morning. He said that today she was chipper, breathing easier, making jokes with the staff, etc., -- definitely feeling a lot better than yesterday.



Laurie has Stage IV small cell lung cancer, and starts chemo today. Not much else to say about it. Obviously none of us know the best outcome for the situation – or any situation! – so it’s important not to be attached to any one outcome. But I always assume that healing offered in love can never be a bad thing, and healing offered in love by a group working together is powerful medicine.

Another Update:

Just heard that Laurie does not have small cell carcinoma. She has non-small
cell adeno carcinoma. It is Stage IV but is less aggresssive. She is
responding well to chemo. Please share this info. Thanks, Karen

I have only just seen this but am glad Laurie is doing better. My prayers and thoughts will be with her and her family and hope she makes the best recovery she can.

I haven't been able to visit the web site for some time.  We have had some personal conflicts going on, so my time hasn't been my own.  
I pasted the postings about Laurie and sent them off to my Gateway Gang.  More prayers and color healing to come her way.  I had only met her twice.  She is a dynamic person.  When she passes over--- it will be the spirits gain and our deep loss.  Sending lots of green healing color her way.
