Title: A large bird Post by lifesaver on Oct 27th, 2006 at 2:08pm
I woke up this morning and as normal i came to my computer to check my emails and to open up y forums to see whats going on.
I been reading this board for years and i have participated before i just cannot remember my user name or the password so I resisted again in hopes this time I will not loose touch or my emails again be cause Have moved many times in the last 4 years due to my hubby job. anys ways my computer is net to the window which I love looking out of each day to watch the squirls eat the peanuts I leave them in a feeder i have on the tree. I see this Shadow of a large bird flying , it caught my eye. I looked closer and i seen it again it was flying in Circle's from my house to the house across the street it kept doing this over and over. I had never seen a bird that large here since I lived here for almost 4 months now. I am not sure what kind of bird it was, I'm thinking a eagle, owl, or hawk.. I'm not sure. I took my camera out side to try to get a picture of the bird but it seems to have disappeared n me. I am hoping that if it returns i can get a photo of it. what I want to know is what does it mean a bird flying in almost circles around your home like that Can anyone shed some light on it. |

Hello Lifesaver:
What you speak of reminds me of me. I also feed neighborhood squirrels; however, I feed them walnuts. There are also big birds that fly around in circles. They are birds of prey. I hope they don't eat any of the squirrels. |

The only birds I've seen circle are buzzards/vultures..(or as my sister used to call them "vomit birds"-sorry, I know that's gross)
And, yes they are huge! Usually those, come when they smell decaying flesh.. Here's a picture I took of some at the lake..they were eating a dead fish: And here they are circling our campsite: (actually, I think they were circling the fish, it just looked odd that they were right over our RV.. |

I've seen this too birds of prey doing this. Maybe they are focusing on an animal, but I 've heard that some do this circling when they use thermic winds lifting them up, so that they're actually fly in a spiral upwards.
Spooky |

I did not see any dead animals around or on the street . I have not seen it since I tried to get a photo of it.
question, do these kind of birds try to kill squirls so they can eat them? thanks or the replies |

The ones in my photographs, most likely not. They eat carrion, or dead animals and decaying vegetable matter.

Hi Lifesaver Eagles circle over,as they would take a squirrel if they saw one,i saw this programme where this Eagle tried to take this baby deer.
Were i live i see a lot of crows on the roof opposite my house,my Grandmother always told me that they hang around, when there is going to be a death in the family, but i dont know how true this is,as my Grandmother was very superstitious. Love and God bless you Juditha |

One crow, sorrow
Two crows, joy Three crows, a wedding Four crows, a boy Five crows, silver Six crows, gold Seven crows, a secret, never to be told. So crows apparently are a bad sign or not depending on their numbers... |

HI,
since my daughter passed away almost 5 years ago, we have been getting all kinds of birds in our back yard. More so than before she passed. However, we have actually had Eagles in our yard, and many hawks. There have been many times we would see 1 to 4 Eagles soaring over our house. It's quite amazing to see. Somehow, I usually ask for a sign from my daughter and then the birds appear. I think it's amazing to watch them. It does bring a sense of peace too. |
