The Snake and the Ice

As cold as ice with no inner flame
to warm the soul
clutched in the coils of that snake
thinking to itself
I am alive
nothing has created me
but myself
see how great I AM
eating fruit from the tree
without any thought of thanks
The snake rears its head
and looks at the ice
We are both cold blooded
he says
You can stay with me.
tightening his coils
just a bit more.
