Title: starting out...the long road ahead
Post by pk on Aug 22nd, 2006 at 8:21am
Greeting board

my name is Peter. I have spent some time reading about your experiences and should thus probably introduce myself a little. I, like many others I imagine, was drawn to pursue and investigate matters of the afterlife after the loss of a dear family member. I have an educational background in Zoology and philosophy. I would consider myself an open minded and rational person. For this reason, I have always treated concepts and ideas that I have not experienced directly with healthly dose of skepticism. I have been researching enthusiasticaly on various metaphysical matters. This lead me to Zammits ebook on the paranormal. I was very suprised at the depth, extent and calibre of some of the accounts, evidence and investigations documented in this report. I was particularily interested in the idea of astral projection (wel I have a brain and body so maybe there is hope) which led me to this website. I found it, along with this conversation board, a very useful guide for the seeking.

By accident or fate (not yet sure ;)) I came into possession of a lovely set of headphones and, more importantly, the hemi-sync series. I tried the first tape in the series. At some point, I felt like my whole head was buzzing, like energy pulsating in my head, eye lids twitching and an uncontrolable urge to open my eyes. I was a little frightened and suprised at the dramatic effect of the tape. I must say I was shocked that anything could have such an effect on my mental constitution. Upon repeating the tape several times, I curiously discovered that I could not achieve as dramatic a sensation as I first experienced. I then moved to the focus 10 introduction tape.

This tape was amazing....on the count down to focus ten I felt my whole body, neck down, go completely asleep (I have trouble relaxing my eyelids and eyes). Never before in my life had I experienced such a feeling. I think now I can empathise a little with those who suffer from sleep paralysis. Soon after this feeling I felt like my whole body was being drawn up from my feet first. My whole head was buzzing and I felt a strong feeling of nausea. As I was brought back by the tape I felt my body come out from a deep state of rest and felt very relaxed and calm the rest of the day. Since this initial profound experience using the introduction to focus 10 tape, I have used the same tape several times and not been able to invoke such a strong focus 10 response ie my body will not fall into such a "deep sleep".

Do/did any board memebrs have a similar experience with the tapes working best when experienced for the first time...and if so what techniques (or lack of) did you employ to continue deep phasing into focus 10? also how often do you guys use these tapes or engage in these activities? Lastly, is it recomended, given the potency of an observer who is not predjudiced by a previous tape experience, better to only do these tapes once before advancing to the next tape?

thank you and apologies for the lengthy first message
I look forward to learning and sharing with you

Peter

Hi Peter,
yes I've had similar experiences. In one of the first times I was listening to HemiSync I saw a bright light as if someone would direct a flashlight at my closed eyes. On other times I've heard birds sing. Always a relaxed feeling. After some time I had lost the sense for the difference of this state. I sometimes only need to lay down with the intent to go to Focus 10 and immediately I'm there. The thing is, in the first time, you may not realize it. It was just "too easy". Also, when you are really mindly awake, you tend to believe that you are also bodily awake, so you don't believe you are in a state phased away from The physical. This getting familiar with going in this relaxed state is I guess the main reason why the first perceptions don't come back. I recommend that you think about what you would like to do, where you want to go to, something you are curious about, something adventureous, set intent to do it before (and/or in the beginning of) the HemiSync session. I guess humans need just something new from time to time.

Spooky

Thank you spooky,

I will take your advice on board and give it a go. I like the idea of having an intent...makes sense to me.

cheers
Peter

Hi and welcome Peter. I'm sure you'll get some response from other hemi sync users. after your description I'm intrigued to join the ranks of users of the tapes. Matthew, a forum member has been having some success with them from what I've read and has also sparked my interest in trying them. I think you are off to a good start and I hear some similarities between your description and Matts. you say you were relaxed all day and calm, that feeling alone might be worth pursuing this avenue for many of us as I see it. the prerequisite of relaxing brings on greater states of awareness from my perception. especially if you can induce the same feeling as time goes on, or maintain it as a constant by recalling the feeling in the exercise that you got, then if you can do that without the tapes I think is the eventual goal, Bruce has the finger bending exercise I'm thinking of here in regards to the setting of intention, although I'm no expert on intention setting and just being there. just talking witcha.

I look forward to hearing more from you and enjoyed your post. alysia

Welcome to the board Peter. When I did the Gateway Experience tapes, I listened to the same one for a week, then went to the next, etc.  It's really up to the person if/when they feel they're ready for the next tape. I always knew I was in focus 10 when I'd hear myself snore. LOL  Good luck with the tapes.

Love, Mairlyn ;-)

Sexy first post pete.   :D  Long, hard road indeed, but at the same time more beautiful and important than any other road in life.

imo that is

Hi guys,

thank you for your warm, insightful replies. Alysia I have to say that at this point the tapes have been a great discovery. Like you pointed out the after effect of relaxation and calm is probably as equally important as the experience. I would be interested to hear your feedback should you chose to give them a try. Thanks Marilyn for the 'dosage' advice. As I dont snore I will consider any future snoring I hear in focus 10 a sign that I have managed to bore my friends and family I am trying to reach  ::) You are right indiglo, I will do my best :)

I have a week vacation in the tropics next week to push the boundaries using hemisync. I will hopefully have something interesting to post soon.

take care guys
Peter

Hi Peter,

Just a note to you in case you hadn't tried it already. I use a light-weight, seed-filled eye pillow when using meditation cds. Of course, I am lying down. It makes it much easier to relax and focus inward, as well as eliminating any source of visual distraction. Another kind of sleep mask will do but it is very pleasant to feel the even, cool, very slight pressure on the entire eye area and I find it works well for me.

Looking forward to hearing more from you.

love, blink

Welcome Peter,

I am a physician in the USA, and as such, I have my own skepticism to counter.  Victor Zammit's site is helpful.  Bruce's CD/workbook are even more so on this site.

However, for me the hindering beliefs of my youth were best debunked by obtaining proof that our consciousness may be independent from our bodies.  In the Western view, consciousness is sort of thought of as an evolutionary accident, just a result of chemical and electrical or quantum signaling so that we think we are conscious beings.

A few areas of research will help convince you.  There is a great NDE (nead death experience) webiste out there.  Princeton University in New Jersey has a P.E.A.R. laboratory in which they have demonstrated that focused and unfocused human consciousness can actually change sealed random number generating machines (they have a website too).  These studies have been published in peer reviewed scientific journals.

If our consciousness can affect things in the physical world from a distance, then we as human beings are probably more than an evolutionary accident.  This led me to other research including readings on the science of mind which have been very interesting.

The bottom line - if you've gotten this far, you've opened the door to a world full of new experiences and spiritual growth.  PM me if you'd like any references - I'd be happy to help.  Some are free on the web.

Best to you,

Matthew

Hi Blink,

Thank you for the eye pillow suggestion, after my first round of eye difficulties I improvised with some make shift blindfolds...the eye pillow sounds much nicer though.

Thank you Matthew for the warm welcome and information. I am an avid student of quantum theory and like yourself no doubt have realised that things are not as predictable and straight forward as most people once though...particularily on the sub-atomic level. You are right about  the evolutionary accident view, it has been the inevitable conclusion drawn by many people when faced with an education based evolutionary theory, natural selection and random variation in a gene pool. I am keen to give Bruce's cd/workbook a go. After reading your message I realised that a lot of this is going to be about me looking inwards for restricitve beliefs and limitations I have managed to accumulate over the years.  Thanks again Matthew.

Peter

Hi Peter.

I think things have the largest effect on you when they catch you off guard.  So you may want to put your tapes aside for a week or two, and only work on your techniques without any assistance.  Then give the tapes a try again and see if they have an effect again.  Remember to not hold expectations the next time around.  Don't think "I better have the same kind of experience I had last time or I'll be disappointed".  Don't think anything like that at all, just go into it for the experience itself, accepting whatever you may get.  I think that's the best attitute.  Also, I agree with everything Spooky said, especially about setting your intention beforehand.  I say this because with myself I find that I can be pretty scatterbrained, all over the map, wanting to do too many different things and then ending up with nothing.  So it is important to be focused.

When I have been taking care of myself and getting sufficient sleep, then I can easily go to focus 10 on my own.  (And apparently I snore like nobody's business so yeah, I hear myself snore and it's a sure sign I'm there).  So you may need to remember to be fully rested when trying these exercises.

Can't wait to hear more of your experiences.

Vicky

Hello Peter (and everyone),

Your post prompted me into writing, as I to am trying out the hemi-sync Gateway program on CD. In fact I’m trying so much, so hard, I’ve got myself into a bit of a muddle.

I have tried Wave 1 Discovery of hemi sync and I’m stopping there for a while. I feel I need to go back to Bruce’s Guidebook and CD’s.
My initial thinking was if hemi-sync was good enough for Bruce I’ll do it first, just like he did, then something said hang on here. Bruce has written most if not all of his books, (which were a great read btw) using his experience in the Gateway program as hindsight and I can see where he has tweaked ideas, to get things to work quicker, with better results, more reliably for more people.

That said, I read this board regularly looking for clues or triggers, that may help me achieve afterlife exploration, all be it from an inexperienced person’s point of view.
What got me about your post was when you mentioned this “At some point, I felt like my whole head was buzzing, like energy pulsating in my head, eye lids twitching and an uncontrollable urge to open my eyes”. Well today I was experimenting with Bruce’s finger bending exercise and I got something very similar. I think I have overlooked affirmation and intent.
This is a great thread to “Trouble seeing images at all in the 3D Blackness” , some great advice from Spooky2 and Dave.
So information on how “the mechanics” of how it’s done is fantastic for me and I’m sure for all the people out there that follow this board.

I must say, coincidence after coincidence has lead me to Bruce’s web site, to read his books and start on the CD’s and more strangely to REDISCOVER I used to be able to do this.

Without boring you with to much detail, I used to work odd shifts at an airport and found it really easy, when not working to drift off somewhere else, where I had experiences, some of which were covered by Bruce’s books.
Looking back, two things hit me, I was sleep deprived constantly and I never ate regularly. These two things appear to “thin the veil”, no surprise that alcohol works in the opposite way.

Please share your journey with us on the long road, but I can assure you while it may be long, it will never be boring or lonely, and I’ll do the same.

Thanks and good luck to you,
Clive.

Hi Vicky,

Thanks for your feedback. I have to say I agree with you on minimising expectaions. I am sure I met with such a profound experience first off because I had little if any idea of what to expect. However approaching each tape with a beginners mind set is rather difficult. I like your point about accepting anything you get. I think I am still probably a little too overwhelmed and excited to settle myself. Its exciting times for up until that point I would consider myself to have been very in control of my mental experiences. Once again thanks for the tips Vicky and I will keep you posted.

Hi Clive,
I am delighted that my post prompted you to write. I am intrigued by your similar experience. I will review  the post "Trouble seeing images at all in the 3D Blackness" to see if it also can help me a little. I am probably a little two excited by my new experiences and discoveries so I too feel I may wait a little before moving into the wave 2 series. the REDISCOVER part in your message got me thinking about a time I was playing monopoly with my sister when I was young (around 14 or so). I desperately needed to roll a double 6. I remember desiring/wanting it so bad that when I rolled the dice my awarness totally changed. Time slowed dramatically, everything went silent and withdrawn, and I had a magical moment as the double 6 sprung forth. My perception, awarness and reality changed dramatically for those few seconds...very bizarre feeling that I have not forgoten. I wonder how many skills and insights await recovery beneath a mountain of conditioning.

I went through a period in my life when I was under imense physical (athletic) and mental strain. Lack of food, sleep, perhaps similar to your shift work, that I do recall playing on my awareness. Please keep me informed on your practice and experience.
all the best clive
Peter

Peter,

When I delved into the study of consciousness, I learned that although there are universal laws in the physical world, our consciousnes may have an effect on what we see manifest in it.  Impossible?  Magic?  No.  It is a subtle law of mind that is not taught nor discussed much.  Healers know of it (especially "alternative" or mystic healers).  They see a desired healing as having occurred.  In their mind's eye, they see the person healed, and it helps in the healing.  Likewise, in our lives, if we state intent during relaxed meditation and it ingrains itself onto our subconscious, often in subtle ways of synchronicity, we see our intent manifest in our own lives.

Being open to experience and breaking down hindering beliefs from our previous training is important.

When I was on vacation there was a casino nearby.  I don't gamble as a rule.  But I walked in, and had a firm impression in a relaxed way that I would win something.  Call it intention, intuition, being in tune, whatever.  I saw a machine with 7s on it in a brief flash.  Saw a slot machine covered with 7s a few minutes later and put a few quarters in.  Within 5 minutes, I hit the jackpot, and something like 1000 quarters came out (everyone gathered around).

What I found unique about this experience was that I, as a rule do not gamble.  I stated intent to myself before going in there.  Had an unexpected flash of a machine in my mind's eye, and the rest followed.  If you google the PEAR laboratory at Princeton university, you can see that they have studied our conscious intention's effect on random number generating machines, and found, inexplicably that consciousness does have an effect on what should be a completely random process.

I will PM you more privately about books and references I found on thought affecting reality and conscious intent making a difference.   If you find verifications like I have (numerous), then you conclude that our consciousness is more than an evolutionary accident; that we are more than our bodies.  How much easier then is the jump to believe that consciousness (the egg) came before and goes after physcial reality (the chicken)?

Matthew
