Title:         DOG HOUSE CAFE ! :-)
Post by Bob McKelvy on Jul 28th, 2006 at 9:23pm
Was not to sure where to post this.  Guess this would be the best spot.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Back in my early days in the U.S. Air Force as an enlisted man and trying to earn extra money for college, I worked as a night manager of a very small restaurant in a rough neighborhood called The Dog House Cafe. Saw a lot of rough people pass through there and enjoyed a ring side seat to a slice of life that a lot of people would never see.
The cops rode close herd on me because the area was rough. In exchange, the food & drinks was always free for them to maintain thier presence. Was almost robbed at gun point while working there. Posted that experience last year. Will repost if if you want.
Also saw a lot of people down on thier luck. Gave them a free cup of coffee or hamburger now and than, paid out of my own pocket.
There was one customer that really stands out. Had a 17 or 18 year old man come in looking very worried. Asked me if I could help him because he was in a bad bind. Saw his girl friend sitting out in the car waiting for him. He said that his girl friend wanted a large cup of coffee. 75 cents for a large cup. The poor kid only had 25 cents to his name. Asked me if I could help him out. Felt very sorry for him, and on the same token admired his courage to walk up to a complete stranger to ask for help.
I was flattered by this. Well, he just happened to ask the right "stranger" for help this time.   ;D
Gave him the coffee, no charge, and by the way, I had a customer who ordered two hamburgers with fries and left without paying for them. Their yours for free if you want them. ( Actually, I had them fixed for the two cops who were going to pick them up on the next shift change) . Fixed them some fresh ones later.
Saw the immense look of relief on his face.
While I'm at it. You will need this, pulled out my wallet, gave him a ten dollar bill, told him that it takes a lot of courage to do what you just did !!
The look on his face was pure happiness and relief. Tried to thank me, I said forget it. Take good care of your girl friend. He said mister, I will always remember this !! Helping people out is one thing especially if they really needed it. The feeling of happiness within yourself for what you did will stay with you forever !!
Love Bob
;D
Its nice to hear stories like that in this modern world of ours, far too many people come across as mercenary in their daily encounters. There are not enough food samaritans in this world.
Hi Alysia,
That poor guy must of loved that girl to take a big chance like that.   That was what I liked  and respected about him.
Bob Monroe described a similar experience when he started looking for two dollars  he had hidden away for a date and eventually found.  Bob was desperate for a solution.  He finally found the two dollars, may have even manifested them.  It was a similar situation with this young man.
Love Bob :)
Are you sure the ten $ was in your pocket before you gave it to the fellow ? Maybe it materialized just in time for a good use. :)  bets
I love your story Bob. It is always such a good feeling to give without expecting anything in return.  Thanks for this story. ;-)
Why would you bring something negative into this beautiful story?
I must admit that I got torn up last night. I mean, 17 year olds and friday nights, you know?  Which might also explain the 'Baby Got Back' lyrics in the 'To You' thread.  But it was only in jest, and I do believe that if you looked at that negatively, you have some spiritual maturing to do.  :D
Doesn't make sense not to live for fun.  ;)
I thought the ' :D ' spoke for itself, but yes.  Why is everyone here so uptight?  Would think solid beliefe in imortality would leave room for a joke here and there.  Ugh.
hi Indilgo..don't worry about flat jokes..happens to me all the time, then I found out I'm the only one who thinks I'm cute ;D  I later surmised that posting on a forum people can read you wrong because they can't see the twinkle in your eye or your hand gestures and the way I sometimes fall out of my chair at something someone said...they also can't hear your voice..full of nuances of expression.  its too bad we can't all gather together physically, I'm sure it would be fun and relaxing.
I've been reading you and I also misunderstood your joke at first. then I read where you said afterlife=anti-drug.  thought about that. thought you meant that you are so interested in the afterlife that taking drugs does not interest you. I kinda like that!
listen, hold on to your sense of humor, I think we are going to need it after we're dead too!
love, alysia
The fact that the joke was flat doesn't bother me as much as the reaction.  Doesn't matter, so serious, 'My posts speak for my spiritual maturity."
Cold as stone.  Cheer up.
If I did, it was during sleep and you know how I don't remember dreams very much. I need to make a special trip to the Humor Center in Focus 27 consciously.
I got this in an email this morning:
One day God was looking down at Earth and saw all of the rascally
behavior that was going on. So God called one of the angels and
sent the angel to Earth for a time.
When the Angel returned, she told God, "Yes, it is bad on Earth;
95% are misbehaving and only 5% are not."
God thought for a moment and said, "Maybe I had better send down a second
angel to get another opinion." So God called another angel and sent him to
earth for a time too.
When the angel returned he went to God and said, "Yes, it's true.
The earth is in decline; 95% are misbehaving, but 5% are being
good."
God was not pleased. So He decided to E-Mail the 5% who were being good,
because he wanted to encourage them...give them a little something to
help them keep going.
Do you know what the E-Mail said?
Hi Guys,
Went on quite a GOOGLE journey this morning prompted by needing a definition of clairaudience and winding up with a great movie short in the Spiritual Humor section of www.experiencefestival,com/spiritual_jokes  The movie is called The interview with God and located at www.theinterviewwithgod,com/presentation.html
Hi Bob,
As I was reading your experience of helping the young man in the cafe, I too came up with some doubt, questions, and cynacism but then I remembed that you tend to use a lot more input than than merely your C1 consciousness in deciding when a situation warrents aid. Therefore, I was able to read between the lines in your up lifting story knowing that your coming from a mature good heart position.  Alysia pointed out some of the non verbal cues and put along with inner tips that you've  learn to trust, I get what you mean when you complemented him on his courage and why you were so willing/prompted to help him.
There are many who approach us for help, and sometimes it's difficult to know the difference between being a fellow traveler ready to give assistance, like the work of a guide in the physical sense or an enabler. For example, I have a client who is homeless and an alcoholic who makes his living by begging.  His job is to beg and my job is to say no to his requests while at the same to keeping a ear open for those that will help him long term.  We sort of make a joke about it but he comes in daily. My boss wants him transferred out but by his history, he always returns and the paperwork all has to be redone. For me, refusal to help is clear cut but for many of the others I come across, I must tune into my heart/gut/little voice or other postive signs to distinguish between helping or hurting by giving.  So I can understand why some might be skeptical about helping others or question a story about helping someone.
Hope I haven't confused everthing or failed to compliment Bob on helping those *fellow travelers at the cafe.
*fellow travlers- all of us in C1 travling the bumpy road through life.
Love, Jean :-*
p.s. Wish I had a really good guide book instead of having to write it as I go along. J
Guide books are okay but I feel that learning as we go along is what makes the lessons stick. ;-)
hi again. I find humor to alleviate stress, so I wanted to share with you all some feelings I get when reading posts here..and part of me wants to be a cartoonist now as I see so much value in the release that laughter brings...I'm sorry Bob, we've gotten off your subject topic here, but if theres one person who I know who takes us as we are and wouldn't mind we get off topic, its Bob for sure.
heres some of the feelings that Mair's funny story brings up in me..you've seen all these icons over the years Mair, but I still love using them. and I'm now convinced visuals impart more information than the written word.  I love that cute story Mair. sort of made my day!
I do love this board really.
Hi Jkeyes and Alysia,
I am impressed by you two !   You saw through the smoke screen to what I was actually doing.   Your right.   Most "victims" are a dime a dozen so to speak.   They are always going to be there because it was part of their life plan.   There are many "victims" who do not want to be helped.  "Please don't deprive me of my misery"   .  You learn how to read a person's energy signature with your heart/mind.    From there, you get a pretty good handle on who they are, and where they are coming from.
 Alysia talks about celebrating the person.    I share that concept with her.  By using the heart mind you quickly spot people who really need help.    Life can be full of risk's, and you sometimes have to gamble and take a chance.
To me, those  that take those risk's  stand out like a bright light.  I'll always try to be one of the first ones to come to thier aid or  answer their prayer whenever possible.    You also look for opportunities to push  that person to a greater degree of awareness of thier  hidden potential, or celebrating that person on a one to one basis as Alysia would say.
Love Bob  :)
 Hi Bob, I'm going to meditate today on celebrating myself (my life) as much as I celebrate the people on forums when I get the opportunity from reading between the lines.
lol. I'm all choked up... :-X  love ya, alysia
