a family friend of ours has just gone into the hospice, and they've given her about a week. are there any things that i can do for her (spiritually) to help her cross over?  thanks.

First of all I wish you and the ones leaving behind a lot of strength the next weeks.

The best thing you can do for her is make sure she knows that you let her go. That she is allowed to cross over and that you'll support her and back her up. Try to take care of the people left behind who are covered in sadeness because they don't know about crossing over.
The best thing for someone passing is when sadeness is tempered and Love is the main feeling. Love also means letting her go (you know that, but others may not).

Don't forget your own emotions with this, allow yourself to have your emotions but don't get carried away by it. If you want to help her after she crossed, be sure you are emotionally stable and feeling comfortable with it. You don't have to help her; you may, if you feel good about it. Simply thinking of her with a feeling of love is a great help already.

Sorry to hear about that Your_Mum, but find comfort in knowing that she will be going on an amazing journey soon... I remember when my Grandma passed away and my Mom was by her side prior to her passing. My Mom had told her that she can go whenever she feels ready; that she will be with her very soon; and to not be afraid. After telling her this, my Grandma made her transition within minutes. Apparently before she passed she had told my Mom that she heard "bells". Apparently one tends to hear these types of things upon passing. From what I've heard, some hear chimes, some hear flutes, some hear harps/choirs/etc... I believe that it is these types of sounds/songs/vibrations that help to guide our souls to the appropriate places. A very comforting thought. Also, I remember hearing that before my Great Uncle died he had seen two Angels covered in soulful light hovering above his bed that told him not to worry, and that everything would be okay. (Another very comforting thought).
