Title: How does evolution disprove God and spirits
Post by RyanParis on May 26th, 2006 at 7:15am
I was chatting with a fine female friend of mine today, and we started talking about the world. I told her that science and evolution rocks. She than said "I guess you don't believe in God and spirits."

I have a question, what in the hell does science and evolution have to do with believing in God and spirits or not. I do believe in God and spirits, as well as God creating the big bang and evolution on the physical plane.

I'm tired of people saying evolution and God is in conflict. I can picture what's going through their minds:

"Ooohh look, a chimpanzee climbing a tree. People are walking around, too, I guess God and spirits don't exist." Please.

They are two completely different subjects.

Just because your hair is growing (evolving) doesn't mean you don't have a spirit or astral body (which you do).

What does evolution have to do with disproving spirits and God? Just because you found a small monkey doesn't mean God doesn't exist.

I think that what has come to most people is the belief that evolution itself created life as we know it....As such there is no need for God. Most people (scientists) who believe in Evolution tend to believe in a model in wich life appeared spontaneously at one point just like that. Ofcourse being a biologist I still find it hard to believe that from simple lifeless matter something as complex as humans have evolved. It is almost impossible...there are missing links to the creation of all species on earth...Yes evolution can explain differences in the characteristics you find in  species....but when we talk about the creation of DIFFERENT species, thus talking about Macro Evolution, things get really complicated. Scientist can not explain yet how the human brain has evolved....and how come we have awareness...consciousness...All these are interesting issues..I do believe that there is more to it than just evolution....I can not answer what that is with great certainty...I just hope one day I will find out :)

I don't believe that evolution disproves God and spirits. It certainly seems reasonable to me that God could set up the World of biological life so that it is self functional.

However, I don't believe that Charles Darwin and the Miller guy (can't remember his first name, Stanley perhaps) who spoke of amino acids pools randomly forming together until they formed life, have the complete answer. I know enough about human physiology, biochemistry and molecular biology to see that random amino acid coupling probably couldn't lead to the extremely sophisticated manner in which biological life forms function.  I believe there is a guiding intelligence behind the process.

Plus, if our existence is nothing but the result of biological evolution, where do things such as chakras fit in? For anybody who has experienced their chakras, they show that there is more to existence than one's biological body.

This is a fascinatng exacerbation of a trivial interpretation into a monsterous question! It shows how much exercize we can get by mountain climbing over molehills.

I'm inclined toward three observations here. First, it seems that whatever God does, it happens in a straightforward, non-miraculous manner. (With a very few exceptions.)  Second,  once this thing was wound up and set adrift, God no longer had to do anything but watch it - and grant a few prayers. Third, "In the Beginning, God created Darwin." The point is that God was there in the Beginning, and Darwin wasn't. It makes no difference if we call It some other name - Elan Vital , or Brahman, or Statistical Tendency or Uncaused Cause, Divine Mother, Cosmic Consciousness ... "God has many names, all of them most excellent." (Koran)

Is there not a little ego investment in telling others "I alone am right, and all the rest are Wrong - and they'll go to Hell or Las Vegas or something" ?

Antwnhs:

My feeling is that just about all of us will find out one day. Of course if we make mountains out of molehills we'll slow down the process.

Hey there:

Evolution and God go together.  Everything experienced here is a part of our "Creator".  I personally think the big G has a wicked sense of humor.  Thank God lol.  There is just enough confusion in everything to send most of us "to the home", and thats where faith comes in.  We are all searchin for answers.  Answers that ring true to us.  There are many paths to the same place.  At least Im countin on it being the same place lol.  I believe that the big G had a huge hand in this internet experience.  All of us like minded people from around the globe sharing our thoughts.  Its awesome when ya think about it.  Anyway just wanted to say, "Im glad to have found this site", and I look forward to reading more.

I've read that the expression "doubting Thomas" and the Gospel according to Thomas have a historical connection to each other. I don't know if this is true.
