One of my best friends died out west.I phoned him the night before he died,and told him to go to the light.I said when you pass over look for the light,and go to it.After calling him, I prayed to God to let me be there with when he dies.The next day I had a call that he had died.When his family came back,I was told before he died he saw me sitting in a chair,and he said look,george stone is over there sitting in the chair in the corner.Then he called out my name,and died.Do you think that my spirit was there to help him in his passing.George

My condolences to you on losing your friend, George.  I am curious, what were you doing at the time this happned?  Were you asleep?

yes George I think a "part" of you was there with him because you wanted to be a good friend and I know he must have been comforted by your care.
even though you are not conscious of being there, others can see you. this happened to me with astral projection. my sister saw me in the room although I had not been aware that I had succeeded in projecting. my best to you, you are a good and loving friend. alysia

I think that it's totally plausible that your spirit was there to help your friend in passing... (Also, it's plasusible that it could've been a helper/guide taking on the image of "you" as a way to welcome him to the otherside comfortingly. Either way, it "did" help ease his transition into the higher planes and was therefore successful.

As I've posted earlier... A relative of mine (alive) was there in spirit helping his Grandmother make the transition over to the light... Apparently she had too much fear built up inside of her, as such, he became  a sort of guide to her as a way to help her with the transition.

I view this "transition" as the butterfly effect... We crawl into these cocoons as humans, then when our time comes... we burst out and fly away. If I look closely I can see a lot of parallels between our intimate natural surroundings and our spiritual higher awareness... It's "uncanny" sometimes.
