I had an experience the other night that I havent had since I was a young child.
When I was in bed I felt the duvet being pushed down as if there was a cat on the bed, I lifted my head, expecting to see one of our cats clawing the bed but nothing was there. My bed is near the window so I pushed the curtain expecting to feel a cat sitting on the window sill but nothing was there. I would have heard if the cat jumped off the bed but none of the cats were around. I was confused but just fell back to sleep. Like I say, I use to get this a lot between the ages of 5-10 and it use to scare me. I would feel the duvet being pushed down even though my body was not near that part of the bed. It is not the gentle feeling you experience when a heavy duvet sometimes pushes itself down on a bed, it is the definate, strong feeling of something periodically pushes down on the duvet, similar to a cat although I would say a little heavier. |

Thanks for your story Matt. My friend has felt s precence sitting on her bed as if some-one was pushing down on it, she still talks about it to this day...
She has a Spirit of a little Girl in her home, her boyfriend has actually seen her and was terrified, he won't go upstairs alone! She thinks maybe it was The little Girl who sat on her bed. The spirit doesn't do anything wrong apart from Sprays my friends perfume so that when she comes in from work her house reeks of it! Strange I know!! |

Matt and Goldiflocks,
I have occasionally reminded posters here that studies have revealed that 50% of Americans and 48% of Brits report some contact from their recently deceased loved one within the first year of his/her passing. Knowing this, I have often asked the bereaved if they have had experiences of such contact. One of the most common reports is of beds being suppressed as if by an unseen weight. This symptom is often accompanied by others as well. So I'd advise you to look for other strange events such as characteristic odors of the deceased (e.g. pipe tobacco, a certain cologne or perfume, etc.). Don |

Hey don.
I had a similar experience not long after my nan died. My nan when she was alived used to make the best chicken soup ever and often cooked it for me and my brothers when we visited her. The week after her funeral we could smell a distinct chicken soup odour as if it was being cooked in her kitchen. Of course there was no chicken soup cooking at the time and there was no chicken soup made earlier. Also sometimes in our house we can smell chicken soup and the starnge thing is my mum does not cook it very often at all. What my mum thinks is it is her mum (who died years before i was born) letting her presence be known. |

Jambo,
Interestingly, characteristic odors seem to be as common as any manifestations of our recently deceased loved ones. You might be interested in an experience shared with me by Gordon, an old friend, during a visit last year to my parents in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada. Gord and I had not seen each other since I was a teenager. He took me to a local coffee shop where he dazzled the waiters by showing off his newly acquired man purse. I privately deemed this rather effeminate until Gord informed me that it was in fact a reshaped kangaroos's scrotum. He had recently visited Australia and noted large department store cartoons of male kangaroos with a pained facial expression and with their arms covering their genitalia. This was pretty racy stuff considering that Gord is now a Christian chaplain. After I stopped giggling, Gord shared a recent pastoral experience he had had while visiting Annie, an elderly lady in a nursing home. He noticed a bottle of lilac perfume by her bedside. No one knew who placed it there! After a few minutes, Gord asked Annie if she'd like an application of the cologne. She said, "Oh yes, I'd be delighted." So Gord had a female attendant put on the cologne for her. Annie smiled brightly and reveled in the marvelous odor. But then she peacefully closed her eyes and slipped into the next life. It was 3:00 PM on Tuesday. Annie's daughter helped her husband on their farm. At the time of Annie's death, the daughter and her husband were working in the barn. At 3 PM, something odd caught their attention. The strong odor of manure was suddenly overwhelmed by a more potent odor. Both Annie's daughter and her husband independently recognized the smell as that of lilacs. They were baffled. When Annie's daughter came to the nursing home to complete arrangements and pick up her mom's things, she gasped when she saw the bottle which was still beside Annie's bed. After talking to Gord, she realized that the lilac odor in the barn signified her mom's presence at the precise moment of death to say goodbye. For some reason our deceased loved ones find the use of signature odors one of the best ways to reassure us that they are alive and OK in the hereafter. Jambo, this seems to be a significant parallel to your experience with your deceased nan's chicken soup odor. Don |
