If I made a spirit/afterlife movie, it would be this:

The first scene would say "based on a true story"... than it would show outer space explode in the Big Bang... and the universe being created by a sea of celestial spirit, namely God. It would have the awesome special effects style that the new War of the Worlds has. The movie would support both Christian and Evolution (Nature) ideas. The movie would show atheists saying God isn't real, saying spirits aren't real, and than show the atheists astral projecting while they are dreaming/lucid dreaming at night.

Furthermore, the movie would show the astral world/spirit world in great detail. It would show God, Angels, Spirits, Astral beings, The Devil, Demons, ect, in their seperate astral dimensions. It would show Heaven and Hell fighting each other in the spirit world. It would even show the astral umbilical cords up-close on the people and animals astral traveling. The movie would star Chuck Norris, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and fine women.

That's exactly what I'd pay to see. :) :) I can just picture the controversy on Larry King Live right now. Right when people see the new movie advertise on TV or in theatres they know it would kick ass. Just picture all the billions of dollars the movie would rake in. Awesome. :) ;)

If you get rid of god, the angels, christianity, the devil, the demons, you have a good idea for a movie.

I say keep the angels, God, spirits, and demons. Sounds sort of like Paradise Lost to me. Wonderful literature.

Spitfire, you should read the book Good Omens, by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman. Maybe it would help you a tad - I know it made me start to care. (And it's really funny.)

Just one caveat, Ryan...
Atheists/agnostics (serious ones anyway) seldom lucidly dream (as most of them have not the interest needed to cultivate this skill) and almost NEVER astrally project (once again, they don't tend to be interested in cultivating that experience.)
It is the BELIEVERS who do such things. Why? Because it fits their paradigm, and they develop the needed brain states to produce these experiences.
ALSO - don't get hung up on Judeo-Christianity! Don't leave other equally valid religions (including obscure ones, like the Sioux belief in Coyote as the creator of humanity) out of your production. INCLUDE them you'll be well on your way to at least 3-and-one-half stars( in MY review, anyway.)

Hmmmm... let's see - sex, violence, and Christianity all in ONE movie! You might end up out-doing Mel Gibson here... better than a quick read of the Books of Genesis thru Joshua, or even a trip to the monkey house at the zoo.

But there already is a great afterlife movie out there if you have seen it it is called "What Dreams May Come" and stars Robin Williams & Cuba Gooding Jnr.

Great film and very true to the real-life descriptions of the afterlife.

Question is, how would immortal immaterial beings (i.e., angels/demons) inflict damage on each other?
If they cannot die or even be damaged, how would heroics come into play (and heroics are ALWAYS a big part of war movies.) And if they're not mortal, what's the point of physical combat? (I suppose you could use armies of C1 human proxies, but I think a fellow named Tim LaHaye beat you to that popsicle cart.)
What weapons would they use... swords? Been there, done that. Too cliched, not too original, you don't want your movie to be overly "forgettable." What about modern weapons (might angels and demons armed with modern weaponry and/or spaceships, ect. be an interesting twist or a one-way trip to box-office-bomb city? Just as an aside, note the trend away from "ray guns" in sci-fi and toward firearms a la "Aliens" and "Starship Troopers.")
Would blood n' gore be a part of your movie (think "Hellraiser" series.) Or are you looking for a more "family friendly" sort of production?
And finally, how would you transcribe a 4-or-5 dimensional battle zone into a movie? That might be tough... even CGI might not be up to the task.
ALSO - the biggie. Would your movie be regarded as "lies of Satan" by the religious right and boycotted by a big segment of society - or worse (think Salman Rushdie..!)
