Title: TAKING A LIFE ??
Post by Caseys_wolf on May 21st, 2005 at 11:46am
Hmmm didnt need this really ....my dog who have had for 12 years has  a neurological problem, his back legs have gone and now his front ones going too he is shaking and goijng to the toilet where he lays...basically his quality of life has deteriorated even in last few days he is a big dog weighs around 130 pounds he looks in trouble and he looks unhappy gonna take him to the vets monday... my question is this....

If they decide he is to be put to sleep, what will happen? i mean i will be ordering his life to be taken, will he be able to enter  the spirit world if its been artificially taken? and i will be taking his life also so would that be frowned upon by the powers that be?
Everyone i know saying that its the kindest thing to do, and i will if i know he suffering badly, but will he be ok in the crossing over?? cos its not his time to die naturally....though i feel he would die soon anyway but in agony so dont want him to suffer.

Dear Wolf,

This is one of the hardest things in life that we have to do. Yes dear soul, he will enter the afterlife and he will be with Casey. ;-)  Talk to him straight from your heart. He will understand. Use pictures in your mind as that is how they communicate with us. And don't for any reason feel guilty about this. I love dogs so much and know what you are going through now. I had to have my beloved Cricket put to sleep when she was 18 1/2. She was blind, deaf and would walk into walls and just stay there until I moved her. She was also peeing everywhere which was so unlike her. The vet found tumors in both her bladder and kidneys. It was so hard to let her go, but when it's done from LOVE, all is OK.

After Cricket was gone, my vet sent me a sympathy card with a wonderful message on it. I can't find it right now but will look for it so that I can send it to you.

Dogs are here to teach us PUL, Pure Unconditional Love. He will continue to be around you now and then and you can visit him and Casey in the cabin.

Much Love and Support,
Mairlyn  ;-)

First let me say that you are not taking his life. You are releasing him into his eternal life.

I found the message online. ;-)

"We who choose to surround ourselves
with lives even more temporary than our own,
live within a fragile circle, easily and often breached.
Unable to accept it's awful gaps,
we still would live no other way.
We cherish memory as the only certain immortality,
never fully understanding the necessary plan . . ."

Much Love, Mairlyn ;-)

This may help.

IF  IT  SHOULD  BE        (Author unknown)

If it should be that I grow frail and weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep
Then you must do what must be done
For, this last battle can’t be won

You will be sad, I understand
Don’t let your grief, then, stay your hand
For this day – more than all the rest
Your love and friendship stands the test

We’ve had so many happy years
What is to come can hold no fears
Would you want me to suffer? No?
So when the time comes, please let me go.

Take me to where my needs they’ll tend
Only, stay with me until the end
And hold me firm – speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.

I know in time, that you will see
It is a kindness that you do to me
And although my tail its last has waved
From pain and suffering I’ve been saved

Do not grieve that it is you
Who must decide this, now, to do
We’ve been so close, we two, these years
Don’t let your heart hold any tears

So, let me go – set my spirit free
And by your side I’ll always be
And when your time on Earth is at an end
I’ll be waiting here - for you, my friend

From your description, I would say that this is way overdue, you should not have kept him this long.

What happens with me, is after I get over the initial grief, my attention turns to remeberence. I often relive what I did with my late gf, and constantly reaassure myself that all that really happened, I did not miss out on it, I congratulate myself for having caused it to happen, we really achieved what we did together, and it really was terrific, it really happened. Memory validates what was. You will remember that yes you really had that companionship all those years. Of course, I am talking about humans here, but your post just put that into my mind and got me going.

Dear Wolf,

The belief that animal life is permanently extinguished at death ultimately derives in our culture from certain Old Testament texts, which also imply that human life is permanently extinguished at death.  Biblical belief in an afterlife arose gradually through progressive revelation and first becomes clear towards the close of the Old Testament era (Daniel 12:2-3).  This point is overlooked because of misunderstandings about Old Testament references to "Sheol", which is not  a dimension of postmortem survival.   What all this boils down to is this: there is no biblical reason to reject the possibility that the consciousness of our pets survives death in some form.  Indeed, deceased pets sometimes show up in NDEs.

Hi Wolf:

Many of us have had to face this decision, including myself.  The fact that you are so caring in your questioning of this matter, wanting to do the right thing, shows what a good heart you have.

It is very hard for some of us to put a dear pet to sleep soon enough when they are ill.  Sometimes they pass away before we can even make a decision.  We love them so much and we don't want to believe our pet will not improve somehow.

Just be there for your dear dog and make a decision you can live with.  Whatever the outcome your pet will be there in the afterlife and will know you did the best you could.  From what people tell us they are often the first to greet us when we are received into the afterlife.

We're there for you.  We've been there.

love, blink

To tell you the truth, Wolf, if you can do it, I would take your dog to the emergency animal hospital now.  I wouldn't wait.  A vet can relieve discomfort and that is the kindest thing you could do.

So if this is the kindest thing you can do then why isint this applied to humans?? Perhaps it should be, if you have ever seen a human die slow you would know.

Hi Wolf:

I have much respect for your strength in carrying out what must have been so difficult.

What is interesting to me now is that I realize that we all have a real connection on this board.  I saw while meditating with a cd before sleep last night a dog being carried off slightly to my right.  Your dog may not have looked like my vision (in my vision it seemed to be a medium size dog with reddish (?) hair, raised ears, not floppy).

However, the man holding the dog was walking away from me and the dog was looking over his arm at me and the dog's eyes were bright and cheerful, almost smiling.  I saw another man off to the left side but not clearly.  I felt that I would come here today to find your dog already gone over and it was so.   I hope this helps.

Hi Casey's_Wolf,

I have been the guardian of many dogs in my life - I believe when the quality of this life is reduced to one of pain and misery and that there is no hope,  it's the ultimate act of love to help them by ending their suffering.

I so believe that our animals do cross over to the other side of life. I had an animal ADC; several years ago I posted it on the Net.

http://www.egogahan.com/ADCs/sean.htm

A friend of mine has also had a marvelous experience:

http://www.egogahan.com/ADCs/HomewardBound.htm

I pray that you will take comfort. You've had a lot of loss in such a short time: a beloved soulmate and a beloved companion.

And just maybe you will find comfort in my Soulmates page:

http://www.egogahan.com/Soulmates.html

Please don't take offense at the Biblical passages - they are in there because so many think that Jesus taught that there is no marriage in Heaven, when in fact, He did not. Take what feels right to your heart, Casey's_Wolf - and leave the rest.

May God comfort you and give you peace and healing.

Sincerely,
JudyE
