Title: Worst memory..! Post by psilocybe on May 3rd, 2005 at 2:03am
How is my worst memory in my life going to affect me in the afterlife is a question which has bothered me for some time!
If we all look back into our minds to visualise our worst memory, does it not look very clear and real as if it were yesterday? ??? Is there anyway of not suffering in the afterlife for haveing this memory?? My memory (for the record) is of me being only 5 years old and my mother and sister driving away in a taxi and leaving me on my own on the street to fend for myself! :'( I'm a big boy now! ;D but it is still my worst memory, what can i expect from such a traumatic time? Will i haunt the area i was left in in the hope of my mum and sisters return?? Shroom ;) |

Psilocybe,
I don't think the afterlife works the way you describe. Everybody has bad memories. Does that mean nobody can get to heaven but must instead remain earthbound? If so, then we're all screwed. You may also want to consider that according to your fears about how the afterlife might work, people who really have serious problems with their consciousness while on earth, such as post-traumatic stress disorder, chronic depression, victims of childhood abuse, victims of rape and violence, etc., are going to be totally screwed when they die. They have much worse memories, and in some cases a whole lifetime full of them. People like that are a very significant percentage of the population. Do they all enter a hellish or earthbound state after death? I doubt it. I don't see why the universe would operate in such a cruel and unfair way. It is more logical to believe that people go to a place in the afterlife according to their moral character, rather than things that happened in their life which they could not control. Freebird |

We all have a very bad memory in our short lives.
You don't have to take it with you. What you need to do is to go deeply with awareness into the memory and feel all that it represents in your life..Go so deeply and completely into the memory/experience that it becomes completely integrated into your psyche/being..When it is totally part of you and not split off(thats why you find it so difficult) then all the pain and stress will be gone and you will be at peace with that experience, believe it or not, this true. There is a saying " The Only Hell is to be Trapped in the Past".The only way to be free of the past is to go into it and know it so deeply that there is not a thread left hanging. When it all is part of you suffering disappears.Throught he going into of this terrible experience you will uncover many insights that will make sense of this part of your life. Cheers David. |

Thanks for your replies!! :) (David n Freebird)
Imust admit i don't really suffer anymore!I have a family who needs me more!!! 8) I did when i was a younger man, i personally have delt with it but i'm sure others haven't and will take anything people offer as advice with the respect where due!I just Thought it was a good topic for discussion ::) I believe in the afterlife your life experiences, thoughts, emotions and other realities affect the type or types of realm or realms visited, am i wrong to think your strongest memory has a strong effect when your dead? :-/ Surely all experience in ones life lead to character makeing and forming of ones afterlife ??? Love and respect Shroom :P |

I think it is maybe a mixture of memories and fixed beliefs that will have a bearing on where you end up in the afterlife.
As a man/woman believes so he/she will be. Hence Belief System territories. Int he Tibetan Book of the Dead the Monks who are helping a person die constantly implore the dying person to drop beliefs and look in their mind/heart/soul for the highest focus towards the Light. They believed that your thoughts/beliefs had tremendous bearing on where you would end up after Death..Low thoughts a low level of afterlife and high then higher afterlife..An environment that is suitable and comfortable for every sovereign entity's evolution to wherever is the goal. Cheers David. |
